So I don't need to hold A and up on the stick to run forward? Just holding "A" will cause me to sprint by itself?

Yep you can just hold A and he'll run forward. For tighter turns, I actually hold the stick BACK and to the left/right while holding A to sprint forward still.

Yeah Future, that's the "Roadie Run" you'll still need to control the direction your player goes while in roadie run. Holding A by itself will just make the player run straight.

Last night I only played past the Berserker and have yet to find anything redundant, but there is still a lot of game left. (so i can see where there may be "room clearing" concerns.) The Hammer of Dawn rocks BTW. I've been playing co-op campaign with a friend online and we are yelling into the headsets.. it's that exciting.

I have a 55" HD plasma and I know why I spent every penny now. The graphics are so life-like you just find yourself staring at little things like Markus's armor, weapon and skin. (sounds gay, but really.)

The duck and cover system is awesome and once you reach the Berserker, you are probably used to it enough to know what your doing and act in almost a gymnast kinda way. I was preplanning rolls before I'd finished my first one just to evade the Berserker and get him to do what i wanted.

I don't usually give reviews of non-sports titles, so if you have any questions i would have no problems answering them while I'm at work today.

I can't really speak on behalf of it being better than Halo though because I never really got into the Halo franchise.

Seriously guys, if you own a 360 you owe it to yourself to buy this game.
Just a followup.. This is the best game out right now.

There is no redundant "room clearing" so far and I'm on Act 4. The game is a TON of fun.

I just finished ACT 4 and I have to say there was some points during that act where I could just go back to a play forever, because they were just so fun and jawdropping.

I started alittle MP today because I dont want the single player to end.

Also in MP some jerk stuck a grenade to me how did he do this? And how do you tell the difference between a smoke bomb and a grenade?

That will give you a jog, yes. But, like most other games, if you want to "SPRINT" you hold the A button and he ducks into a roadie-run position and the camera drops low like a scene out of Saving Private Ryan.

Your guy sprints, and if you continue to hold A and run into a wall or a ledge or something, he'll slam his back into it and take cover behind it.

Lots of games use a "sprint" button, why is it so weird to you?

Re: Official Gears of War Impressions Thread

I played this game for over 8 hours last night, I even stayed up into the wee hours as well, because I was hooked. This has to be one of the most entertaining and strategic single- and multi-player shooters that I've ever played, not to mention that it's the best looking one as well.

Multiplayer on Live is crazy - lag-free for me so far, and the only teleporting that I've experienced is with Co-op mode on Live, and that's only in two instances where someone is walking far off the map while another is approaching a necessary checkpoint or goal.

I love the bosses in single-player as well...it's a throwback to the SNES days for me, not because the bosses in a lot of the FPS's and shooters today aren't bad, it's just that these ones are imposing, tough (especially on the higher difficulty levels), and...well...flat out scary. Especially if you have arachnophobia.

I agree with either IGN (...or was it GameTrailers?), that the different acts are similar to different games of the shooter genre. Act 1 reminded me of your normal futuristic shooter (Killzone, Timesplitters even)...meanwhile, Act 2 was more survival-horror. Act 3 reminded me of Halo for some odd reason...and then came Act 4...the airlift introduction, the lighting, and even the surroundings screamed "GRAW". It's not that they're copying other facets of the shooter genre here, it's just that they're implementing each into every act for a much different experience all-around, and that's what I love about the single-player/co-op campaign. It changes constantly to keep the monotony down.

The only complaint I have is that I don't really possess the right reflexes at this time in multiplayer with the chainsaw...I get into close corners and the other guy either blasts me away or chainsaws me before I can use it. It's frustrating, but I'll get the hang of it...the game's only three days old for crying out loud! But it's still cool.

I feel you, man. I had the same problem last night. We would both be trying to chainsaw each other but I lost the battle most of the time. This game is just so fun that sometimes you don't even mind dying because you're killed in such a unique way.

I was playing 2 v 2 execution on the Masoleum map. My partner is getting chainsawed and I hit the guy that was chainsawing him with the torquebow. As soon as he killed my partner he exploded. His teammate comes running around and starts blasting me with the Lancer rifle. I hit him with the torquebow just as I went down. He came running over to curb stomp me and win the match but explodes instead. My team won the match.
