Re: Official Gears of War Impressions Thread
I usually don't post impressions after not playing the game for long, but I am frustrated. There doesn't seem to be a control scheme I can work with. I've always played FPS with a weird control config going back to the goldenye days. And I know everybody's gonna say, "its not a FPS its a TPS", but its tough for me to control this game. I'm having hella tough problems getting adjusted to the fact that I cant inverse my controls when in aim mode. This is very disappointing to me. I played about 20 mins last night, and this along with NBA 2k7 were my first plays on xbox 360 (just picked it up yesterday). So far in though, I am hugely disappointed. I am not passing judgement on the game itself by any means, as it has some awesome graphics, and just from the training mode, it has that "epic" (no pun intended) feel I last got when I played Halo 1 in campaign mode for the first time. I'm going to give it some serious qt from now thru tuesday. (4 day weekend) and hopefully my initial feelings change.Comment

No! You can run any direction you'd like. The screen is just sped up, but you can still control him as normal...Move left, right, up or down....
The controls will take time to get use to, but overall after a few seconds or minutes..lol...You'll learn to like them.
Tip: Try turning off, the icons that show you when to press the A button to do certain moves. And just do them by touch. Then it will become second nature and easier for you.
I give this game a 9.8 out of 10. It isn't without flaws, but overall, its not something you can rush through and get the full feeling overnight. Sometimes if you take your time and focus on the fun of the game, instead of just trying to beat it to get achievements. The experience is much more nice.
Online Co-op is a blast and much easier on the brains. A.I. is very smart at times, and after getting to Act 2 and beyond. This game holds alot of ground.
From the X-Button on the title menu, I can see them adding more levels within the next few months or so. Or more Acts....Gears of War is the real deal. A must buy and a must keep. Can't wait to do Co-op on Insane level. Heard it was damn near impossible.
Good Job Cliffy B and Team.

Re: Official Gears of War Impressions Thread
So do you have to "strafe" to turn while running, or do you have to "look" to turn while running? Im sorry guys if I sound like a douche, but I could only run straight forward last night. These controls seem to inherently go against the ways ive played all shooters before.I am work right now however, so I cant try it out. I am trying to envision how this would work.

Yeah that camera is badass. Its like something outta a episode of Cops or something. You can almost feel and hear the fat camera guy that isn't on screen. Now if I only I could turn that bish to the left and right.

Sounded like they were saying you have to hold down a button plus the stick to move. I get what you're saying though.Comment
