It seems like even if we're using the same weapons I take less shots to kill than the opponent. Does it really matter where you hit them? I never really played Halo much, so Im not sure how it works: but should I be aiming high (chest and head) to bring em down quicker? Can someone do a quick breakdown of which weapons are good and which suck? Thanks!

Oh yea, feel free to hit me up if yall need some more people for the OS games, but Im obviously not very good.

I find that unloading a clip on them followed by a beat down wins most up close battles.

This game is awesome online. I hated it for a day because I'm coming off of 12 months of Ghost Recon, but now that I have the controls, I'm loving it. I couldn't even get 3 kills my first day (per game) and just finished my last two with 15, 11 and 17 (most thanks to a ghost spree).
The line must be drawn HERE! This far, no further!

Especially three times out of five in The Pit level. That level is horrible for sniping, I hate it.

yes it does matter where you shoot somebody. shots in the legs/arms do not damage as much as the body which don't damage as much as shots to the head. Three-four shots from a battle rifle to the head can kill an opposing player.

If you're using the assault rifle, it's exponentially worse the further away you are from somebody.

Assault Rifle - Can be good if you're close enough. Never charge in with it if the person you are facing has a battle rifle, carbine, shotgun, dual spikers, dual SMGs, or a melee weapon. Need to hit the upper-chest/head if you want to kill someone with it. Better as a second weapon.

Battle Rifle - One of the most effective guns in the game. Aim for the head and it takes usually three shots to lower your opponent's shield and another 1 or 2 to kill them. Better the closer you are, but can be used very successfully from distances. Good to use against a sniper to keep them from being able to zoom in on you.

Carbine - Pretty much the same as the battle rifle, only you have to hit the trigger more times as it is a single shot and does not fire three bullets at once for you. A very good gun to have.

Shotgun - Self-explanitory, really. Very deadly at close range. Learn to master the one shot into a quick melee method and you'll be incredibly deadly with it.

Spikers - Good as a dual, can be beaten if you only have one. If you can get your hands on two of these and your only other option is the assault rifle, use these. If you can get a BR or a Carbine, use that.

SMGs - Same as above, only these are slightly weaker (at least, they seem it to me).

Sniper - My favorite weapon in the game, but you really have to be good [enough] to use it or else you are going to get killed numerous times. Aim high and a little bit ahead of the person you are trying to snipe (if they're running). If they are standing still, aim at the head. If they are running quickly, a shot to the body and then a shot anywhere else on the body will kill them. Only try to use it in close range if you think you can.

Mauler - Maybe it is just me, but these are hit or miss. Sometimes these things can be damn good, other times they seem to suck horribly. I, personally, stay away from them unless I absolutely have to.

Plasma pistol/plasma rifle - Dual plasma rifles make a damn good combo.

Brute Shot - Hit or miss, again. Can be very deadly if you are good at the one-bounce shot, or if you are accurate enough to hit your opponent with each shot. They can get frustrating, though, because you think you are about to kill them and then you end up dead because you barely damaged your opponent at all.

Rockets - Aim at your opponent's feet or a wall right next to them. Do not try to aim at the actual person. Jump when you shoot to minimize personal damage and to get a good angle on the person's feet.

Turret - Pretty deadly, but you move slow and are an easy target for long range weapons. Always take it off, though, as you are a sitting duck if you actually sit on the turret.

Rocket turret - I'd advise to only use this on a map like Valhalla if you're facing a banshee user. Some people I've seen are goo at using it in anti-personal situations, but I think it's more luck than anything.

Spartan Laser - Amazing for anti-armor/vehicle use. Good for long-distance person to person fights, just aim a little ahead of the person in which ever direction they are walking/jumping. Beatable in close range situations, as it has to charge up, but is usable. My advice is, if you see someone on your radar and have this gun, start charging before you see them.

Sword/Hammer - Good at close range, non-existent at distances.

I think that is everything. Always aim for the head, always keep moving.

Dual plasma rifles are deadly close range weapons. Their shields drop almost instantly and the just melee them for a quick kill.

I've hardly touched the campaign mode, but online play I'm addicted to just like Halo 2. I hope I'm addicted longer than the 5 months I was to Halo 2 when it came out.

Really? I've, honestly, never used them. Never liked the plasma weapons.

I think a mixture of the plasma weapons with a human weapon is a deadly combo. Like plasma rifle/magnum combo. The plasma gun takes down the shields, and a shot to the head/melee finishes them off. The mauler is also a good weapon to dual wield with a plasma gun.

Personally, I just like my battle rifle and sniper rifle.
