What is skirmish?

Skirmish is a gametype. It is all the games that aren't death match (territories, CTF, assault, etc).

I was correcting EG saying that the third list, other than ranked and basic training, is Social, not skirmish.

From what I've played so far (which albeit is not much), it seems most 1 on 1 battles in Halo is just a little bit of shooting while each person runs toward each other to see who can hit the B button first.

And the people that run at you wanting to beat you down are the ones who always end up dying. It's the dumbest strategy in the book.

If you're in a close range fight, then yes, try and hit B. Do not run at someone, head on, wanting to melee them. It is incredibly easy to kill someone who does that it isn't even funny.

I am pretty new to the HALO mult scene and I must say the multi takes some getting used to. I am from the GRAW 2 scene on PC which is still extreme realism. H3 is twitch based BUT VERY fun.

The funniest part about this game is when your brain shuts off in a battle and you get dominated while looking like an idiot. When that happens I just sit there and ask myself what happened.

multiplayer is a blast, haven't got into campaign that much. I cant wait to get on live, if i ever get my NAT fixed

I'm really disappointed with the multiplayer maps. There's only 2 or 3 that are suitable for groups larger than 12. Any other map, and it's just too congested.

Ugh...i only saw a map or two multiplayer last night, but I noticed this. There's nothing like Blood Gulch where it's a massive level and you have to coordinate attacks? CTF and everything just seemed like deathmatch, no strategy at all. Did they remove the team/strategy aspect from Halo? That was what made multiplayer fun IMO.

It's still there, but a lot of people choose to ignore it. Like on a multi-CTF match, you should have attackers and defenders, but some bonehead will be camped somewhere in the middle of the map just sniping people. That really doesn't accomplish much.

Luckily, the team I played with last night talked...a lot. Of course, we were all familiar with each other, but communication is key in any shooter. If I'm playing with a group that doesn't speak a word during a match, and we're getting our asses handed to us, then it's highly likely I'll sign off after 30 mins or so.

I am loving this game!

Anyone else like the maps on Halo 2 better than Halo 3 though? I have only played about 4 or 5 of the maps, but I miss some of the maps from Halo 2

yup. halo 2 mp maps > halo 3 mp maps.

I like guardian, construct, the pit, narrows, last resort.

not wild about snowbound, isolation, high ground.

jury's still out on sandtrap (though when I played with OSers instead of randoms, it was more fun)

and I have yet to play on epitaph or valhalla.

halo 2 maps were a lot of fun, though I got tired of waterworks and the blood gulch remake. terminal, ivory tower, lockout, headlong, those were some sweet levels.

dumb question.. if you don't press the D-pad down, no one can hear you??? because sometimes I didn't & some of my teammates heard me.. and does it depend on the type of match??

If you have 4 members or less on your team, you can just talk. More than 4, you have to hit the Dpad. I've hit it in all directions, they all seem to work.

Also, if someone is talking near you, you'll hear it through your speakers, I caught Millennium on that once, he was babbling about how much he hated TJ, and I turned the corner and got him from behind (ala TJ).

To be fair, I was trying to get there on foot, but kept getting killed halfway. That's why I said I am waiting for a Mongoose, so I can get there faster.


BTW, for the Bungie.net stats, does anyone else's career stats not show up? It just says 0 for both.
