After watching that vid Born posted about spacing how the hell are you supposed to beat Ryu or Ken in any way other then playing as one of those 2 and doing the same thing back to them?

If all they do is constantly throw fireballs which you have to block then when you jump they do the uppercut isn't that pretty much unstoppable?

Well I know one of C. Viper's flame kicks evidently drops her straight down so you could do that to bait them into a shoryuken without traveling all the way into shoryuken range.

I'd also suggest watching videos on youtube to see what other people do or check shoryuken.com since the character specific forums usually have matchup threads as well.

how are you guys doing the ultra moves with the fightpad? i find it really hard to do it. 3 buttons at once is insane.

Maybe they hold their hand in a claw like position? I know my friends did that when playing Soul Calibur on the PS3.

You can also use the L1 and the L2 buttons, L1 (all the punch buttons), and L2 (all the kick buttons). Makes it a lot easier to pull off.

First trick is to not panic when you are getting fireballs thrown at you. Second is to occasionally jump straight up in the air and just let it pass under you. This will make some guys impatient and change up.

Third, and perhaps most important, is to close space in other ways. Most non-shotokan characters have a move or two that closes distance and puts you in the "good zone" against fireball users. For instance, Fei Long and Rufus jump RIGHT over them and get a free hit. Your reaction time doesn't even have to be that fast, as you can bait people into throwing fireballs if you see that they want to throw them.

At a certain distance, the fireball is a VERY poor choice. The more you play and move into these zones, the more you'll be able to jump in and get big combos against shotos.

The fireball is rarely why people lose. It's usually overreacting to the fireball that does it.

Also dont forget that you can focus attack to absorb the fireball and then quickly dash forward to close the distance. Also dont jump in after they throw a fireball all the time..mix it up a little and try to bait them to shoryuken and then punish.

So something apparently clicked today and ran the gamut with a slew of characters and unlocked everyone but Dan, Akuma and Gouken - the latter seeming real difficult. Seth is becoming easier to deal with. I still I need to beat Arcade with Boxer. Trial Mode was key as it helped teach me some key moves to advance. I can know through a Fireball/Tiger Shot with some consistency. Before, I would try to do it and end up doing the Dragon Punch instead. I now understand why people like using them so much.

Zangief is a pain to play against.

I think Chun Li, M. Bison, or Fei Long will end up being my secondary character.

Wow my brother and I just spent the whole day unlocking characters. Unlocking Akuma, Gouken and Seth were a pain because I read the strategy guide and it has the ways to unlock each of them wrong. Is this the 1st SF game to attributes or has there been other SF games that had this because thats my only gripe with the game.

I believe Cammy and Dhalsim also go under fireballs,I'm not sure if they do in this but I'm pretty sure they used to,I would guess Rose still has her reflection move and of course Vega goes over them extremely easily as well.

Almost all, if not all, non shoto characters either go over or under fireballs. Blanka slides under it with his down+Fierce(or strong). Honda can get over it with his down/up charge move. Chun Li has the overhead Flip Kick that punishes. Zangief can eat it with the Green Glove, etc..

I just pulled those names out of a hat, haha.

Great game. Just played my online first session and got owned by a shoto player. Came close to winning a couple of matches, though. My main issue is throwing moves consistently, in the heat of battle. That'll come with practice. Can't wait to play more, tomorrow.

Man I need to learn how to string combos together without just randomly pressing buttons. That instruction book that comes with the game does you no good, especially for a rookie who hasn't played a fighting game in years.

That part, you need to have someone explain to you. I don't know how someone would do that in writing.

I'm loving this game. We had a little get together at my crib to play this, and even the girls wanted to get in on this. This game is perfect...as it reaches the hardcore SF gamer like myself, and people seeing or playing this for the first time.
