I think I can confidently say at this point that this was my favorite game of this generation. To me, it was also the best game of this generation.

I've only played a little bit of it (It is on my backlog of games to beat though) and while I have liked it, I guess it hasn't "struck" me like some other games I've played (Fallout 3, ME series) as the best games of the generation.
Like I said though, I could be completely wrong and love it when I ever get farther in it.

Reading through this thread convinced me to go buy this for $15 and I'm pretty impressed so far. The game is absolutely beautiful visually and the combat mechanics are solid. There are a few annoying things such as accidentally hitting people with your horse and getting a bounty or hi jacking one of those stagecoaches (taxis) when I really just wanted a ride. But, besides that this has been great so far! You can really just get lost and forget that there's even a main storyline you have to do. This game reminds me a lot of Skyrim. It's just so deep, it's almost impossible to do every little thing in the game.

Just unlocked Mexico and did a few missions. I really have to say that the only major thing I was getting annoyed with was the missions in New Austin involving me doing these petty chores & errands for some crooked men, but they gave me what I wanted after awhile which was nice. Now that I'm in Mexico it seems like a lot of those petty errands and chores are gone and there's more action.

I have recently began playing this again and am trying to do all the small things for 100%, right now I am struggling with getting $1000 from gambling. Even doing the 5 finger filet, I struggle mightily...any suggestions?

Just keep playing poker at the high stakes table in Blackwater. Easiest way to do it.

I got this game just last Christmas on PS3. It was the Game of the Year edition so it had the Undead Nightmare expansion inside. I've completed the main story line in both, now trying to get 100% in the main game. I gotta say though, this killing the cougar with a stick of dynamite is tough.

I either get close and miss or get mauled.

If you're looking for a pro-tip, I used a ridge just north of Fort Mercer. Cougars tend to pop up in the tall grass there and if one happens to make an appearance while you're on the top part of the ridge, he'll try to get you without climbing up the steep 5 foot cliff. I drop a dyno from there.

What a good read. Time to fire this baby back up! It's pretty cool to get a glimpse to the side we rarely see. And on top of that, John Marsten is hands down my favorite video game character of all time.

Is my PS3 getting old? Or is the disk just getting worn (even though it's the only game I play lately so it isn't getting hanlded)? Pretty much every time I play now there seems to be a glitch or lag.

Once, my horse would only be able to go about 200 feet before launching into the air, then I could accelerate and fall off before hitting the ground at my original spot.

Then I was going through Armadillo and the path was getting very very non-specific, almost to the point where it was just a brown layer with no texture. Then I stopped and about two seconds later it all returned rapidly.

And now I am currently winning arm wrestling versus nobody with a man impaled by a chair standing across from me.

I think it may just be the PS3 version. I own both, and I notice a lot more of these glitches on my PS3 than 360.

1) It's unfortunate you know that before having finished the story. I feel sorry for you that you didn't get to experience that on your own.

2) Learn the easy way now instead of the hard way later, and do what I do with any video game and create multiple save files. I don't mean two, I mean like five or six. Save over the oldest one only. The day I look back at corrupt franchises and fatally freezing files that I only have one save on make me feel claustrophobic. Anyway, this can also resolve your Jack/John problem. Keep a save or two with John still in the mix, then work Jack into the game until you get the outfit, and play as John the rest of the way. Sure, you can't wear that uniform as John in any way... but it doesn't make 100% completion feel any less sweet, if you know what I mean.

EDIT:

3) I just realized that you might have already gotten to that part of the story in your game (which would then explain your knowledge of that point), and you're just feeling bummed that you know despite everything you do to get 100% completion, you won't get John back. I just hope that #2 is still a viable option for you in any way possible.

Recently started a new game and like the first time this game just blows me away.

Definitely one of my top 5 gaming experiences.

Everything is perfect in this game!

Almost there by the Assault on Fort Mercer mission, so chapter 1 almost done.

Haven't really concentrated on anything except story missions and will most likely do a lot of hunter, treasure and sharpshooting challenges before heading over the border.

The atmosphere in this game is mint! And IMO the wildlife aspect is done miles better than Far Cry 3. In Far Cry 3 you saw tigers everywhere...while if you come across a cougar in RDR...it's special and you are actually afraid of it.

So I finally started playing this game after picking it up for 10 bucks.

Wow...awesome. really enjoying it and will get lost for a while. I love westerns and this is hands down one of the best games of this gen. I am only 10% done....and it is really sucked me in.

Can't believe it took me this long to get around to playing this gem.

Of all the Rockstar games this is the one i have come closest to finishing the main story. I need to get back to playing it.
