    Re: Red Dead Redemption

I will say that RDR completely captivated me in a way that GTAV never had a chance to match. I'm a western nut, and as much as I enjoy the setting in the GTA series of games, I had waited years for someone to do justice to the western. Rockstar did just that.

Like you say Dayman, just riding around at night was an absolute experience in RDR. So many little things I enjoyed in that game, such as simply trotting along in the wilderness with my horse and taking in the sounds.

Word. I'm not even a Western nut but there was still something undeniable about Red Dead and its atmosphere. GTA V is wonderful and throws a lot out there but I understand what you're saying. I haven't lost myself in GTA's world as I did in Red Dead. They're both incredible but in some regards, they differ in the manner with which they impress and immerse.

Last game had Indians too. And something bad happened to one who didn't deserve it.

I haven't picked up GTAV yet for these exact reasons. It won't come close to matching the feel and experience of RDR for me. I like westerns without being crazy about them but this game nailed every aspect of the genre.

As you said there's something cooler about riding around on your horse at night out in the wilderness compared to driving around a fancy car in LA/NYC with rap music blasting and the characters being foul-mouthed and annoying at times. I think the wilderness/animal aspect really adds a lot to the game too. It's not just outlaws that might and your life, it's a cougar or a bear or a wolf. It's a relatively small thing but it's like a secondary Oregon Trail type game built into the main story.

I guess the story and characters reached new heights for a Rockstar sandbox game with RDR. I felt like a hero with John Marsten more than any GTA character (not that GTA characters are all supposed to be heros).

I don't remember many specifics from GTA games but I'll never forget the first time I played RDR and I was exploring out in the hills north of Armadillo on a cloudless night with the moon and stars out. The music, the visuals, the atmosphere. It was the most memorable moment on this generation of consoles for me. I just stood there thinking "holy ****, this is going to be one MAJOR game". And then a cougar jumped out of nowhere and mauled me to death, ending the honeymoon period.

Well damn, I haven't even gotten there yet! Still tooling around Mexico at the moment.

                    Thanks for the heads up!

BTW, I'm walking back to my horse, when all of a sudden I see blood on the screen and Marston limping. Did I get shot? What the hell?? Oh, it was a f***ing rattlesnake bite! Lol, little things like this are what makes the game amazing!

I really wanted them to make a sequal to this before making GTA 5. Still think this Rockstar best game this gen.

When the point was raised, I wanted to vehemently disagree about RDR being the better game. But I have to agree that I pretty much abhor having to drive around at times in GTA V while traversing on horseback in RDR never got old.

I can't seem to put it down! Every day I put the game in, I think "what should I do today? Continue the main story? Play some poker? Do a side mission? Go hunting for animals and/or bounties?"

My God, this game is overwhelming!

I've got sports games that are untouched at the moment, lol

You may want to spoiler tag some of your post like I did above.

With GTA V having been out for almost a month now, RDR will see plenty of newcomers.

I didn't think it was necessary as the game is over 4 years old, but ok. I edited my post.

                                Re: Red Dead Redemption

I decided to give this game one last play through and get 100% completion for the first time.

After 37 hours of game play I'm at 99% and seem to be stuck there because of bounties. Something just doesn't add up, when I go into Stats > Scores it tells me I have:

                                10 alive bounties
                                8 dead bounties
                                (so 18 total)

When I look at the breakdown by location it says:
                                New Austin - 4
                                Mexico - 4
                                West Elizabeth - 3

That obviously only adds up to 12. And I know I need 20 total so I'm two short even if I'm going by the high count. Also, according to the Red Dead Wiki each bounty is worth .1%, so all 20 bounties equals 2% of the game. I just brought back two bounties to Blackwater and neither boosted my completion percentage.

Any tips? I guess I just need to keep hanging around the towns waiting for more bounties to be posted.
