Do have to select 'run and gun' before you make your actual dash?

Yes, one of the most useful abilities when your unit has a shotgun....***n and Gun then BAM!

BTW my sniper is freaking awesome, barely missed and usually a one shot one kill. Highest ranked guy I got.

EDIT: Well just found out that autosave was turned off so when I quit my game not knowing how to save nothing saved.....A lot of playtime gone.

Wait 'til you're a few missions in and they get promoted/new abilities....you'll find yourself being VERY careful with those guys as you don't want to lose them.
Besides the attachment of the name factor.....you don't want your guys as alien fodder.

                re: XCOM: Enemy Unknown

I basically flipped a coin between this awesome game and Dishonored to decide which to pick up and I can't thank that coin enough. I am loving everything about this game, I think I'm out of the tutorial but I'm not sure and don't really care. I can spend 2-3 minutes deciding on every move I make weighing the risks of the unknown and gauging the amount of cover my people will or will not have. Ranking people up is awesome as is the ammout of customization that is possible. I've been naming my people after South Park students.
I've heard this "patience is a virtue" junk all my life. I'm happy to say I have no virtue, no scruples, and no desire to wait too long for anything. In my humble opinion instant gratification takes too long!

Quick quesiton, I'm picking this tomorrow, any difference between the 360 & ps3? I don't have a CPU rig so it's console version or bust.

Not doing a war as graphics don't matter here. Just seeing if there are any differences.

                      re: XCOM: Enemy Unknown

Holy Crap! This game is insanely good.

I completed probably 4 or 5 missions without losing anyone. Decided to take on a very difficult mission with 2 sergeants, 2 corporals, and a squaddie. Well let's just say, my confidence took a beating in a bad way. Lost Charlize Theron (Seargant Sniper), Hans Gruber (Sargeant Assualt), John McClane (Corporal Support), and Apollo Creed (Corporal Assault) on that mission. Let's just say the aliens worked my sorry butt. Any confidence I had is completely shot.

I lost 3 guys on next mission as well as I had to send mostly rookies and they just suck. So now I am down to 2 squadies and 3 rookies. I am pretty much f'ed, but I love it. Game is challenging. I can definitely see the impossible difficulty level, truly being impossible.

I just really want to commend the development team on making a tremendous turn based game. I loved jagged alliance and xcom (original) and other turn based games, but they really took all that was tedious about those types of games and improved it 10 fold. It doesn't feel tedious to move your squad around and you aren't fighting with UI controls. You spend your time agonzing whether you should take the shot with a 53% chance to hit or whether to retreat and find better shelter.

So far this is game of the year for me, with all due respect to Dishonored (I still need to play that).

I really hope this does well so TBS qames are not forsaken like they were for so long.

You guys know how to get someone hyped up about a game. I just looked at a video and the play style reminded me of a sci-fi Full Spectrum Warrior a little. I enjoyed that game a lot and even though this is a bit different, I think I might dig this one too. Never heard of this series before, but it seems interesting. Does XCOM feel like it will have any replay value? Not sure if I want to buy or rent yet.

I've never played a game like this before. It's brilliant! This will be a game I play hrough many times. So many possibilities!

My understanding is that events that trigger the tactical turn based part of the game are random. The placement of aliens on the battlefield and what type of aliens you run into can change as well. Also, you have different research paths that you can take in the base building portion of the game. It is possible to lose the game if eight nations (i think that is the correct number) decide to withdraw funding. There is an ironman mode as well with only one save and two difficulties above normal to try. There is a multiplayer component as well that may be interesting to check out.

Hopefully that addresses what you are looking for.

I've been playing since about 9 and it is about 4:30 now. Game is outstanding, there are a few minor issues I have seen, but overall it is everything I expected/hoped for and more. I am not even far in the story yet because I decided to postpone that and just face random ones in attempt to build up my squad (almost got 2 colonel )
