    re: XCOM: Enemy Unknown

I am going to have birds nests growing out of my head and face if I keep playing this game.

Holy crap. I will be sinking well over 200 hours into this thing.

      This isn't a shooter, it's a turn based RPG.

You have complete control over your soldiers. Now, do you mean complete, real time active control?

If you mean that then see my initial line.

EDIT: Well just found out that autosave was turned off so when I quit my game not knowing how to save nothing saved.....A lot of playtime gone.
Snipers are amazing leveled up and with scope item. I had two at second to highest rank, both died last night...in fact my whole squad died. Really set me behind gonna be a struggle for a while now. I stopped plying after that mission lol.

I did the same, equiped the scope and removed the grenade on my sniper. I figured he doesn't need the grenade since he is usually in distanced combat.

I know this sounds ridiculous, but it seems like I cant switch weapons with my heavy during his turn. I wanted to use his rocket launcher but it wouldn't let me switch to it from his saw (or whatever it's called in this game).

Color schemes and helmet types are awesome for this game, dark green for my soldier/grunts, black for my snipers, brown for support, & red for my medics.

I usually put a helmet on my squaddie soldiers, it makes them a bit more generic but that's what I kinda want so I don't make a connection with them lol. Makes it easier if they fall in combat.

Haven't lost a class specific guy that I've named or made him someone "important" to me yet. Don't know how I'm gonna feel about it, I already have one guy who I've been using for every mission and I see myself subconsciously starting to compromise my mission objectives because I keep him on the back lines with the medic.

Yea exactly I barely use grenades heavy-nano vest support-medpack sniper-scope assault-stun ray (or whatever its called) wish you could have two items.

I think rocket it special ability idk I you can just switch to it using x (assuming you on pc)

I haven't really customized any of my soldiers yet so it wasn't all that bad.

Stayed up way to late playing .... Paying for it now. But well worth it.
Can't wait to get back into it.
It has surpassed my expectations and fears it wouldn't have the same feel from original.
Spread the word and get this game flying off shelves!

Thanks for the impressions guys, loving them. Got the game for the 360 and installed it but have yet to play it. I played the original on the PC years ago and it is still one of my all time faves. I have a few quick questions:

Is it true the enemies tend to hunker down and don't seek out combat very much? They tend to wait to be discovered?

Are smoke grenades in the game? They were a huge part of the original game. What about different types of ammo? Some of my fondest gaming memories are XCom missions that took place on farms. I would station soldiers outside the barn door and then set the barn on fire with incendiary rockets. When the aliens tried to flee the fire, they would be mowed down by my soldiers. It was beautiful. :-)
Hoping incendiary and armor piercing ammo are once again included in the game.

Thanks and keep the impressions coming!

                    re: XCOM: Enemy Unknown

I was able to purchase the copy with the DLC already included. It does make a difference overall in the experience and being able to name and label your squads.

I will be putting in a marathon session with this amazing game Friday night.

For me...this may be along with The Show 12 my GOTY. Borderlands 2 is also fantastic.

And we still have Hitman coming out. I also want to evenutally pick up Dishonered.

                    A phenominal year for gaming.

I am playing on classic so I don't know if they do this on other difficulties but yes, they do tend to "hunker down". At least that's what I'm experiencing early on in the game so far.

Are smoke grenades in the game?

Yes they are, but their bonus affects everyone (says in the description) friend or foe. So be careful how & where you use them.

They were a huge part of the original game. What about different types of ammo?

Not far enough into the game that I've noticed ammo choices, right now I'm researching alien tech weaponry though so we'll see.

This is plain and simple an extremely well made game.
It's difficult without being impossible. I like how you get suggestions on where to go and are prompted to check out the lab...check the barracks ...etc.
                        It's very interesting.
The combat is fun for a turn based game.
It's that tactical aspect that really makes this a fun game.

of all of the reviews I have read (about 6 total) they all mention how there are no real differences between any of the platforms.

From what I remember, I think all three platforms were built up independently to assure there will be no major graphical differences. No ports here.

Of course, I'm sure the PC looks more beautiful because it can.
