Apparently, EA has suspended marketing efforts for the game.

Re: SimCity 5
Well it doesn't make sense to keep promoting a game that a lot of people can't even play. I wouldn't be surprised if we see a class action lawsuit spring up somewhere. I knew something like this would bite a vdeogame company in the butt one day.
You live by the online, you will die by the online. Been saying it for years companies are starting to get too heavily focused on online play and EA simply went over board with it with their always online. To always be online with a worldwide game such as this consumes a hell of a lot of bandwidth. I wouldn't be surprised if EA start pulling older EA titles off their servers for this game can use it.Comment

Man I want this game. I never really cared for computer games until last year (Text sims mainly) but I do remember really enjoying a theme park simulator game back in the day for PS1.
Im not really sure if my Mac can even handle the graphics for this game. I currently have a NVIDIA 9400 256 MB lol whatever that means. My Mac is almost 4 years old.

Re: SimCity 5
Above, in the highlighted section, a commenter wrote, "Asia has one of the highest populations. Why aren't there any servers?"
The EA Korea Facebook manager replied (once again, translation by Sang Kwon): "There is a lot of piracy in Asia, so it would be difficult for the time being."
This, of course, set Korean gamers off. "It's so hard to legitimately play games even when you buy the official product," wrote one Facebook user, and another asked, "Haven't you learned anything from Diablo III launch?" Yet another quipped, "Change the company name to MA: Money Arts." Many asked where they could get refunds. The Facebook post now has over 700 comments.

Well currently it isn't available for the Mac anyway. So you have some time to save up for a new mac. And was that theme park simulator Rollercoaster Tycoon or something like that ? I remember it vaguely.

I read that I would need a 512 MB video card with NVidia 7800 or better. I guess NVidia 9400 is better than 7800? I also don't know if I even have a 512 MB video card or not haha. I wish there was a demo. I've also watched some youtube vids and the game looks beautiful. I would be disappointed if my game came out looking like crap.
Oh and yes, I believe it was Roller coaster Tycoon. I didn't know what the heck I was doing back then but I've never seen a game like that at the time and had fun looking at the little people enjoy/complain about my park.

Re: SimCity 5
Which is odd considering EA gimped the game by making the cities neighborhood sized in order to increase the size of the market that could run the game on antiquated PC hardware. But then they just didn't release a Mac version.Comment

I am so sick of these online requirements. During the ps3/Sony hack debacle Tiger Woods became unplayable because it would hang trying to find PSN. Bf3 single player on pc is annoying as hell. SSX became unplayable for anyone who deleted a friend from their PSN or xbl account between play sessions.
Ea is not alone. No Steam game I own is playable if my Internet connection goes down. Every 2k sports title ages poorly because it doesn't know what to do when it can't load nba/MLB today or whatever that crap is called.
I long for when game publishers must learn what the music industry and mobile app devs have figured out: people can't wait to give you a small amount of their money for a quality product. 99 cents for the one song I like? Take my money. 13.99 for that one song and 11 fillers. Napster. A 10 second ad on pandora who pay royalties to the artists? Good trade off. Free app? I'll try it out. 99 cents for 100 more levels/puzzles whatever? Take my money.
$60 for a pc game I can't even find out if I dislike because your servers are hosed? Can't play a single player campaign because the web is unavailable? We as consumers need to move in droves away from these models. Sadly, d3 sales fgures and the salivation over the next gen consoles makes me think that even hardcore types like us at OS are nowhere near ready to take a stand. I just don't see where the riaa-type backlash and the win/win solution comes from for gaming. Now playing

Re: SimCity 5
Well I got to play a bit last night and I'm really liking the game so far. Sure the city size is kind of small but the game makes sure you have plenty of stuff to micro manage. Still wish the size was a bit bigger since then I might have a bit more space to specialize in two industries instead of trying to fit everything in a cramped space.

Re: SimCity 5
I'm going to pass on this I think. The always-connected requirement doesn't sit well with me as is, but this whole situation just rubs me the wrong way. I've played all the prior SimCities and SC4 still gets hours from me--I'm just no longer excited to play this game. If they work in an offline component (single player) to this game, I will reconsider.
And did anyone see this? http://www.p4rgaming.com/?p=1473 I'm not sure if it is legit or not, but it certainly is an interesting "conspiracy" or the like.
EA has run a lot of their IPs into the ground--it is a shame they're doing the same to something that I've enjoyed in many iterations since I was a kid.Comment
