I never played the first game though.

Take it from someone who played 2 and 3 first. Once the original was available on PS3 I played it and now playing part 2 has gone to an entirely new level.

    It makes a huge difference.

      I can't imagine playing ME2 and 3 without playing 1.

Well...I had no choice. I would not buy an XBOX 360. I am a PS guy. I do however own an original XBOX and like that console.

So finally getting to play Mass Effect was a joy. Although it is dated in comparison to 2 and 3 the story and lore was amazing and filled in so many holes for me. Thank God they ported it over. Took long enough!!!

Just finished Mass Effect 1 on my PS3 for the first time. I rented and beat all 3 on my 360 a while back, but for a series this great, I wanted to own the games. I bought the trilogy for my PS3 (in part because I like my PS3 better lol) but also because it includes some of the DLC.

There are a few nasty glitches on the PS3 version that aren't on the Xbox version, but still amazing game nevertheless. The mako was never as bad as everyone made it out to be IMO, except when the damn thing would literally get glitched into the ground, causing my characters to die and my most recent save point was 20 mins ago...

Yeah, it isn't that it was that bad, but it just got old quickly maneuvering that garbage truck around the planets, hunting around for a pile of metal, hop out, harvest the metal, hop back in, roll around some more...just kind of monotonous, really. Not to mention when you would get stuck in the hills/ground on the mountainous terrain.

So, now that everyone's played ME1, who here would weaken the thresher maws with the Mako just to the brink of death, then get out and finish them on foot for the cheap-a** mega bonus XP? I was so pumped when I accidentally figured that one out (hit the wrong button, found myself outside the Mako, then panicked and sniper rifled him in the head and got the huge XP). Great way to level faster...

Aw man, had I known that, I may have hit lvl 50 in my first playthrough but instead I finished at 48.

Well, there aren't that many thresher maws in the game that it makes that huge a difference, but especially early on in the game, you can go up like several levels just from killing a maw "on foot"....but it's hard to get it down to just exactly a tiny sliver of health with the mako, because either you kill it or you leave a little too much and it's hard as hell to finish it on foot (it kills you with pretty much 1 hit, even indirect, when you're on foot...and forget about your teammates helping at all). Like I said, it was a total fluke that I figured it out - had I not panicked and just gotten back in the Mako, I probably never would have figured it out.

BTW, random thought, but any of you older guys think the Mako reminded you of the vehicle from "Moon Patrol" (the old Atari game)? Even the way it hops and shoots? Maybe it's just me...

I have not beaten 1 in 3 years and don't have my Shepherd to bring over from ME1. Do you guys think I should restart from the beginning or pick up at 2 and play from there?

                          Start with Part 1.

I will never play through without playing all 3 ever again.

I dunno...I mean, if you beat the game previously, then you know what the major decisions are from the first game, so you can probably just skip playing ME1 solely for that reason. If you just want the experience, though, and happen to have a ton of time on your hands, it's always fun to do the trifecta marathon...

Just finished ME1 for the first time. Fantastic game. I wish I'd known when the last mission started so I could've played through a few other side quests beforehand, but oh well. Gonna go back to an old save and finish up a lot of the side quests I didn't get to and try to level up to 60 for the trophy.

After that, I'll probably take a break before starting Mass Effect 2 just so the game feels fresh. But I'm definitely glad I waited for ME1 to play the other two. There were so many times I almost caved and bought ME2 for PS3 back before the original had been released.

Congrats on making your way through the first one. Just so you know, even if you don't take a break before launching into ME3, it will probably still feel fresh. They changed the way the game plays/feels significantly between ME1 and ME2 (although ME3 is very familiar and pretty much more of the same from ME2), enough that it almost feels like a different game, albeit with familiar characters.
