Re: The Witcher 3
Wow!!! That's extremely high praise. I personally wouldn't go that far in regards to The Witcher 3. Excellent game, game of the year thus far and best game this generation but at the same time, that's not exactly saying much either.
I have put in over 50 hours and im still in Velen. Story wise, im supposed to travel to Skellige but im trying to clear out Velen as much as possible before heading there. Excellent game but the problems finally kicked in last night in regards to busg and glitches...fell through the world twice and got stuck with a infinite black loading screen which is funny because despite no visual, the sound and music is still playing....the music cut out when in the Nilfguard Camp...the pop in is bad at times, the non-existent rain despite it saying rain and the drops hitting the ground is really bad and disappointing.
None of that even includes my general complaints. Hate the inventory setup. The map, all the categories in the main menu like the Alchemy section. To scroll through the entire section to get to what you want is ridiculous. This is where having sub-menus would have been a better idea especially in the quests menu. I go completed quests and it's like one long list of just "blah". That category should have been split into sub-categories. Granted, that would have been extra clicking and whatnot but it being more organized is more important to me.
The gameplay itself is good but not great. CDPR should add in a left stick sensitivity option because when NOT overburdened, Geralt is way too loose. Controls needed to be tighter. The delay in regards to when you press the buttons is bad. And can easily be seen in the menus. Gameplay wise, it hurts. If CDPR was to fix those two things, gameplay would be very good to great. They still need to get rid of that lighting a candle crap because even after patch 1.04, it still happens a lot and it's annoying as hell. Don't need that in the game at all because you could just use Igni to light them up. In fact, come to think about it, that's what they CDPR should do. And then use Aard to blow them out. If anything, that would be cool and better overall.
The unbalanced enemies and whatnot also aggravates me. Once I started Velen and received contracts and whatnot, they're all in the 20's or higher. The first inn you go to in Velen and get that missing brother's contract, it's a level 33!!!! I started Velen at level 4 or 5 (don't remember which). I'm like, WTF??? Way too high. Then, I'll come across quests that are leveled lower than I am. I'm currently at level 15. There's other stuff too but I don't remember as they usually come to me when im obviously playing the game.
With all of that said though, im still playing and want to keep playing. Story and characters are excellent thus far. The visuals are great (except for the massive pop-in at times) and when the rain works like it should, the weather effects are great. Love how it gets cloudy, windy, lightning, thunder, rain drops and then a full downpour.
Since im working the next three days, I won't be able to play again until Sunday but the amazing part is that when im not playing the game, I wish I was. Must admit that this is the only game to do this to me thus far this generation. Still have a long way to go and this game will easily surpass Black Flag in terms of how many hours I put into the game (BF was 120 hours) and be the most hours that I put into any game ever.
Thus far, a 9/10 for me personally. Rating going higher or lower would depend on the rest of the game and how it all plays out and how all the quests go (im trying to do every single one).
All that said, I've never been more smitten with a game before. Sure it has its flaws, as do my other favorites (TLOU, RDR, etc); which is par for the course with video games in general.
Fortunately for us, CDPR has done some wonderful stuff with their patches and knowing the kind of hands we are in, makes me all the more confident that this game will continue to get its very small wrinkles ironed out over the coming months. That's normally a major bummer, but this game will never leave my collection. I'll enjoy the **** out of it now, and a year or two from now.
It really is something.Comment

Re: The Witcher 3
Yuck. What's with all these people asking if it's possible to have sex with Ciri on these Internet forums? Fortunately, not here (I love OS!). But it genuinely creeps me out. Think I'm going to stay off the Gamefaqs for a while.
The story is so immersive she feels like a daughter to me. I feel really compelled to find her.
When Zoltan asked if:
SpoilerDudu would mind transforming into her so he could see how Ciri had grown up, when she was standing in front of Geralt; I'm not going to lie, I teared up a bit.
This story does a great job at making you feel one with it. And for an open world game, the job CDPR has done here is quite an accomplishment.Comment

SpoilerI took Zoltan's advice even though I was going against my intuition. I should have listened to myself because I found that scene awkward and a tad creepy. Obviously the visage meant something to Geralt, but it had the opposite effect on me as it did you.

Re: The Witcher 3
When I started moving up to Novigrad I felt the same. Velen felt like home at the time. Riding through the forests. Feeling uneasy at all the shadows moving in the trees. Riding into a new village and seeing what help they needed. Now, I'm slumming it up in the city and running out to the fields to take care of business. I played a quest over in Skellige at my cousin's the other night and the difference in the atmosphere and the landscape is simply breathtaking. I can't wait to get there, but I'm in no rush to get there either.

This is why it took me a good minute or two to choose. I felt that seeing her then might sully genuinely finding her later.
But this game has made me feel more as if I were the main character more than any other game in recent memory so I think I took it differently than some.
When I saw Ciri, knowing how much I've done to try and find her, seeing her but not being able to save her in that moment really just touched a chord with me.
CDPR had a tight line to follow with that scene. In my opinion, they accomplished that with me but I can obviously see how any recreation of her would be some sort of turn off no matter how delicate they depicted her.
The fact that it was a choice probably indicates that they easily knew a lot of players would feel the same way you did, which really is a great example of CDPR's genius in game and narrative design.Comment

Re: The Witcher 3
Damnit! Carnal Sins question:
SpoilerI was absolutely convinced that the priest Nathaniel was the killer. I ended his life instantly when I saw him torturing the prostitute.
Well, come to find out, thanks to an Internet search, he wasn't. The coroner was. Question: Will I get a chance to confront the coroner at all since I made the "wrong" decision? Or will I just have to live with my wrong choice?
Will the coroner continuing murdering too?
The game got me good. That was quite the LA Noire style mystery! I can't believe I guessed wrong! Good job, CDPR.
Has anyone seen both sides to this quest?Comment

Re: The Witcher 3
I can't say I disagree with a lot of these complaints. The leveling system (I think side quests give too much XP) and the left stick sensitivity especially.
All that said, I've never been more smitten with a game before. Sure it has its flaws, as do my other favorites (TLOU, RDR, etc); which is par for the course with video games in general.

It really is something.
Agree with everything you've said and maybe it's just me but I have had more bugs and glitches since Saturday with patch 1.04 then I had previously.
Not going to lie, im enjoying the hell out of the game and im very tempted to buy the expansion pass but with the first DLC due in October and the second due in early 2016, I know that by then, I would have moved on to other games. Wish it wasn't taking that long. Oh well. If early 2016 is slow (except for Uncharted 4) and I don't have anything to play, I could always pick it up again.
With that said, I have two questions -
1) Do you need The Witcher 3 disc to play either or both expansions?
2) Do you need to keep the save file?Comment

Re: The Witcher 3
I don't know what you guys think, but I feel that the devs could make this game last a long long time with some smart handling of their expansions.
If they added an adventure mode with bounty quests, like Diablo 3, and basically opened up character development (manually increasing attack power, crit chance, stamina, etc) and added loot, I think that would be awesome. Or like a Chalice Dungeon system from Bloodborne, that kind of thing would be great too. I was told there is no level cap in the game. Not sure which report is true (the lvl 70 report, or the no cap report) but I feel like they could make this game pretty much last forever if they wanted to
ANyway, bout to log in for first time today and start working on some Velen stuff. Just hit lvl 10, hope to catch up to my PS4 playthrough within a few days
I'm tempted to buy the expansion pass since it's at least another 30 hours of gameplay but I'll wait until both get released and see if both are actually good. I'm expecting both to be good but rather take the wait and see approach especially since I would have to buy the game again if the disc is required.
In the guide, it lists level 70 as the max but I don't remember seeing anyone here or on neogaf even hit 40 let alone 70. Also, as much as I wouldn't complain about more Witcher 3, I want CDPR to finish up and move on to Cyberpunk 2077. Really wish they never showed that teaser a year or two ago. UGH.
I'm at level 15 and I finished the storyline/critical path quests (I have the guide) and im supposed to travel to Skellige but don't want to until I complete as much as I possibly can in Velen. And I still have about half the map to complete. LOL.Comment
