    Re: No Man's Sky

I'm excited for NMS. I've read some about it, but still not 100% sure on what you're doing in the game. I know you're supposed to mine resources and such on planets so you can sell them to get credits so you can upgrade your gear/ship...

But then I also read that if you mine resources/kill animals something called the Sentinels will come after you.

    Should be interesting.

Are you going through steam or getting hooked up directly?

I'm hoping my steam date of the 9th holds up but in case it doesn't I definitely would love for some PC version impressions and footage.

Apparently when Sean went on Colbert's show it was the PC version he played and people say the draw distance was great and pop in non existent but who knows for sure.

I don't think there's any non-spoiler information confirming how or why exactly the Sentinels go after you.

I know they do if you attack certain structures or do damage to the ecosystem. I don't believe they do if you're mining rocks.

Midnight Eastern Tuesday (for me, 11 PM Central Monday), assuming it's like every other pre-order I've had on PS4.

PS4's preorder system has brought a lot of consistency to these releases that PS3 never had.

First time I've heard of outlets saying they had to resort to "mom and pop shops" for early copies to get a review ready. I understand it, biggest release this year (arguably) and they all probably wanna have a review read right when embargo lifts, I would think

That's just gonna be the very very very fine tip of the iceberg. Planet and species naming is gonna be troll level 5000 in this game.

It sounds like it does all those things very well. From a first person shooter and space combat simulation aspect it sounds like people might be disappointed. From a "realistic" standpoint, well, Sean Murray himself said that this game isn't a "space simulator," and it's clear it's definitely sci-fi/fantasy oriented.

Like others have said, the game will get played 3 hours by some, for 3 days by some others, and for 3 years by some others as well.

I'm counting on the PC community to make the game as great as it possibly can be, we'll see what happens tho

Thanks JareBear,I'm gonna get a look at this on twitch next week.
I like the sound of the endless open world that NMS will offer but a lot of planets that I've seen in trailers look very similar graphically, just changing up the colour palettes from one to another is gonna get old quick.

This has been an issue for a while now after it was brought up. It's not common for review copies to go out so late, I get the feeling like they didn't ship the game they wanted to ship and wanted that first patch to clean it up before reviews and maybe that patch took longer than they expected. Same day Murray tweeted they were done with the patch, Open Critic tweeted about review copies going out later this week.

                              Yeah, definitely interesting.

Especially when the main gripes of first guy (Daymeeuhn) or whatever are considered, most of them sounded like things a Day 1 patch would take care of

Yeah, but what if it's just an array-element generator kind of algorithm, where there are arrays for: color, size, grass length, animal type, atmospheric conditions, etc. plus several dozen more items, and then the different elements within color are orange, blue, green, yada-yada.

I wonder how often two planets will feel "the same" with the only unique difference being one has tall grass and one has short grass, for instance.

It's just strange though that planets seem pretty similar everywhere. I mean look at Earth with snowy mountains and dry deserts, then green forests and watery oceans, and civilization blah blah blah. Heck, look your street and then the streets on the other side of the freeway. I just wonder how in-depth these planets get is all, meaning if exploring one side of the planet is very different from exploring the other side.
