I'm a complete dark souls noob. Never played before.

I got to play for about an hour this morning. I couldn't beat that Ice dragon thing or the big guy. Got very close on the dragon.

How do I know which I should be fighting first?

Are there things I should be using during my big fights besides the health potion?

What are all these blood stains? Other people's death spots?

I need help people!! YOU HAVE DIED!!! Over and over.

I don't think you have to fight the ice dragon. The blood stains are other people's death spots. I have only used health potions so far but I only played about a half hour this morning. Still didn't get past the first boss.

Picked up my game. Gonna play some hoops, and then I'll play most of tonight and tomorrow since I have no class til Thursday and no work til Friday.

Gonna prolly start out deprived and go with a sorcery/miracle/Pyro hybrid first since it looks like they have quite a few new spells.

If anyone wants someone to co-op with at all, add me if we aren't friends on psn. I like to help and I'm sure I'll have trouble finding help at times.

It's a similar situation to Bloodborne, so it may not bother you or you may not even notice it. The game doesn't have much trouble hitting the targeted 30fps. The problem is frame pacing.

Dark Souls 3 was released in Japan a few weeks before the rest of the world, offering an early glimpse at the game on b…

In a 30fps game, each frame should persist on-screen for 33ms in order to provide an even, consistent presentation. In Dark Souls 3, however, we see a wide variation in frame persistence times ranging from 16.7ms to 50ms. The end result is an intrusive micro-stutter effect - combine that with minor performance drops, and you get an experience that feels much jerkier than the average frame-rate numbers might suggest.

We've seen plenty of instances of incorrect frame-pacing in modern games but, in most cases, the developers have addressed this problem via updates. For example, Destiny's alpha release suffered from this, but was quickly fixed. PS4/Xbox One launch title Need for Speed Rivals also exhibited the issue, but thankfully it was rapidly patched after we flagged it up.

From a technical perspective, it's hard to believe that From Software can't resolve this issue - and we really hope that at some point the studio does get around to it. However, Bloodborne - running on the same engine - still exhibits the issue despite a number of updates, making us less than optimistic about it being corrected in Dark Souls 3. And that's a shame. The title's performance profile could be better but it's actually hitting its performance target for much of the duration. However, the additional judder caused by wobbly frame delivery is actually giving the impression of a lower performing game.

Thankfully, it can be avoided - but only with the PC version of the title. We ran it side-by-side with the PlayStation 4 release, using Nvidia's half-rate adaptive v-sync GPU control panel option. This effectively forces a 30fps presentation on 60Hz monitors, with frame-pacing properly enforced - and suffice to say that the game feels much more solid as a result.

it is not game breaking but is not like bloodborne. I feel the graphic details are nicer then bloodborne but the frame rate is not as good as bloodborne even though BB had some dips. I never really felt them

If you have a pc then I would get it there if I can run it at 1080p 60fps

I never had an issue with bloodborne and that had frame pacing as well. I had dips in the first section going up the hill. Not in combat but there are parts where it is choppy and am not a frame rate sensitive person. But it bugged me this time

I only played a little this morning before work and didn't really notice dips. Will see if I notice it as I play more.

Starting at level one is why I do it. When I get to level 7 I'll have a better stats than if I started out as a sorcerer.

Beating the first boss is the challenge, but he was pretty much cake. Telegraphed everything.

That makes sense. Although I would never do it

That actually depends on what you plan on doing. If you really wanted to get as many points, you should have started as pyro for your hybrid as you only get 8 in vitality and 7 in luck. That's 5 less wasted points than deprived which has 10 in each.

Yeah. Looks like I need to put some into strength and Dex so I can use my only decent weapon, because early game magic is looking underpowered. Soul arrow and dart are not doing anything.

Loving this damn game. Up through the first post tutorial boss now, and in the Undead Settlement. Found the Sunlight token, so I helped a few people kill the second boss again in order to get some sunlight medals.

I played for almost two hours and beat that first min bootleg boss that has the sword in his chest. Then got to the hub link and upgrades and walked around the link and there was this naked kinda hunter type with a katana sword who has whooped me for 2 hours now. I cant beat him as he counters my moves and 2 hits kill me. I managed to parry him once and counter with a sweet gut stabbed but did little damage. Holy sheesh

I had a freak kill with him. I died at least 20 times against that goon. We both fell off the cliff at the same time and when I came back to get him his loot as well as my souls where there. Lucked up I guess. Any kind of a win is a win in this brutal game.
