Re: Far Cry Primal (Feb. 2016)

I have tamed the White Wolf, A Jaguar and a Dohle.

Each have strengths and weakness's. For exploring and general traveling I love my White Wolf. But when I look to take Bonfire's and camps I dismiss him and call my Jaguar who is awesome for stealth kills.

I use the Jaguar like I would use a sniper rifle in past Farcry games. To me that is the point of being a Beastmaster. Instead of weapons you have animals as your weapons in addition to your club, bow and arrow (which I am a bad *** with) and the spear for bigger game.

The Owl is awesome and very handy. I dropped my first stinger bomb with him last night.....awesome fun.

    This game rocks.

Exactly! and if you go to the North and upgrade your bow to a Long Bow it's an amazing too. Took me about 30 minutes to take over one of the "Very Hard" outposts using my long bow, owl, a really mad (but untamed mammoth), my doe, my sabertooth tiger and a lot of stealthy hiding in the bushes but I did it. I don't know about you but I find having the animals tamed comes is most handy when just traveling around. They have saved me from many many deaths.

I'd check in the north and or the mountainous areas.

Any time you hear a pack of wolves, hit hunter vision and look for the scent trail (rare animals leave a scent trail). Striped wolves don't look different enough.

Based on a few posts above, I just noticed last night that the animals have "abilities" that are rated on a five star level. Didn't even know that but at the same time, except for using the Owl to mark and attack enemies (one by one), I don't have much interest in taming them unless it's due to the mission. Funny thing is that the few animals I tamed, for some odd reason, I like to pet them and then realize it's because there's no way in hell I would ever pet a bear or lion in reality. LOL.

For those of you who don't utilize animals.. how often do you get killed just roaming around by wild animals?

In around 50 hours or so, I have been killed more than ten times by animals but it has more to do with the average melee combat than anything else. Trying to attack animals using the spear with melee is what I normally do but I do take damage since the animal is always to my right and im constantly missing the stab but I do have all the aiming assist stuff turned off so that could play into it as well.

Side info about the animals.....I just learned something else earlier.....once you tame an animal, you can actually call for them as opposed to taming them a second time. A lot of awesome stuff is in this game but I still want the animals to be the predators, not my buddies.

Oh I've found many instances were animals were anything but buddies...

I sorta see your point about not wanting to tame beasts and such but wow, I can't imagine it because for me anyways, some of the best times I've had in this game is sending one of my big cats out to just maul the crap out of some idiot who has been plinking me from afar. It's a great feeling. But to each his or her own!

With how aggressive the predators are in this game, it borders on suicide not to have an animal companion, if only to keep some of them at bay.

After 65 hours, I finished the game and completed everything except for the taming and killing of the animals (32/42). Excellent game. Like AC Syndicate, a pleasant surprise and better than what the majority of gamers were expecting. Visually, arguably the best looking game this gen and with very minimal pop-in. Music and gameplay are both excellent as always in Far Cry. Story is the weak area of the game but still decent. Two good final boss fights at the end. And no QTE crap either. Worse thing about the game was a side character Urki who's the ancestor of Turk from Far Cry 4. Just a beyond horrible character but otherwise, the rest of the characters are solid. The atmosphere and immersion especially at night is amazing. Definitely one hell of a game and despite being released on February 23rd, it was number one on the NPD chart for software for February which makes me happy because it shows that Far Cry is still going strong and best of all, while the formula and setup is basically the same, a lot of different elements in Primal set it apart from Far Cry 3 and 4. If you're a fan of this franchise, you should definitely play Primal unless all you care about is guns and shooting. Far Cry Primal is my first 9/10 game for 2016 in what looks to be one hell of a year for gaming and this game kicks it off in an excellent and positive way.

I'm only a couple of hours in, but this is a lot more enjoyable than the last one. The change of narrative focus has done wonders for me. I'm having fun using clubs, spears and the bow. And best of all, no tower climbing! Not bad, Ubi.

I SOMEHOW managed to get lost...in a cave. Man, that thing went on for seemingly miles, ran outta clubs, arrows, animal fat...no longer able to facilitate light inside the cave. Lol...
