Its not hard to grasp after you figure out how to do things the first time. Having said that, I wouldnt upgrade your computer for this game.

I am a huge fan of MMOs and none have died out faster than this one that I am aware of. Been in 3 different linkshells over the past 2 weeks and no one is really logging on anymore.

There just isnt any content past doing your daily leve quests every 36hrs. I have been to every aether crystal on the map, run to every zone...all 4 of them, and there just is nothing to do.

There are no unique monsters to kill, no interesting dungeons to go to, no NMs in the world to kill....just grind , grind, grind.

Ive been looking forward to this game for years and it is worse than FF11 in every facet and concept minus the charecter graphics. Very, very shallow game and its getting trashed in the mainstream media too.

There is a grand total of 19 servers I think with a population cap of 2500 people. 5 servers are full, with the rest hitting around 1500 max. All said and done, this title still doesnt have over 47k subscribers and from what Ive seen on Besaid and Figaro, more and more people have just stopped logging in even though you get a free month.

There is a lot to be said when people pay for an MMO, get a free month, and are bored with it after less than a week. I am doing the exact same thing at level 25 that I was doing at level 1. There is nothing interesting to go see and do anywhere. The entire game revolves around getting 8x daily kill X number of mobs or gather X number of harvests....and 8 crafting events every 36 hrs.

I have played every major MMO released and have never been as disappointed as I am with this one.

Hmm, maybe I'll switch servers too because the one I first joined had a lot of people on it. Also, I'm not updating just for the game, it's just been 2 years since I last upgraded.

I upgraded myself in the last month as well in anticipation of this game. I went from a core2duo 8400 to a i7-950 and from a 275gtx to a 5970. After all was said and done, I didnt see much of an increase in performance in this game. I have all top of the line parts now, and its performing just marginally better than my 3 year old system.

Not sure if its a coding problem or what, but I still have graphical hitching and stuttering everywhere I go. Looked up some technical information about it, and seems ATI and Nvidia cards are both having issues of some sort or another in some cases.

Some people report that their old 8800gtx is running this game very well, and yet my 5970 doesnt....so I dont know what to say. I look at my CPU and vidcard usage and neither really go above 40%, so I know its not a hardware issue, but more so of a software issue. I can run BF2 and Crysis at eye popping graphic levels and have no issues.

I went to FF14 with 11 personal friends and about another 20+ peeps from various games that I was friends with.

Every one of them...every single last one of them has since quit.

I personally liked 11, so I knew about needing a controller etc...so the initial game wasnt a shock to me.

That being said, 14 is a step backward in EVERY category from 11 besides graphics.

We made it up to level 30ish, and there was still not a damn thing to do in the game. No dungeons, no instances, no cool places to see, no interesting mobs to see, no loot to be had etc..

Every mmo has growing pains when starting out and we knew that going into it. I think what killed it for us was knowing that even if every major complaint with lag, the menus, the retainers etc..was fixed.., there still wasnt a game to be had underneath all the problems.

Basically the entire game will have to be redone from the ground up. Even if they manage to do that, who will care at that point?

I have played mmos that had issues before, but I have never played an MMO where the majority of the player base was already bored within the first week.

There is literally no content from level 1-50 except the 36 hr leve quest with is nothing more than something that spawns a few mobs and you teleport back.

Bar none, this is the worst mmo released by a major company this decade.

This is the worst MMO I have ever played in my entire life. Bugs can be fixed, technical issues can be addressed, server issues can be fixed.....there is not a game developer on the planet that can fix the problems this game has.

Every facet of the game is just plain bad. Once you hit 30 all you could do was grind on one mob...yes, one mob, for 20 levels until the level cap. The game has a total of 18 quests...nothing more needs to be said on that note.

They would be better off to cancel the game completely and try over again, firing each and every person that was involved in any of the decsion making process that brought out this shame of a game.

My honest opinion is that they didnt plan on releasing this game in its current shape. I remember they spent millions on new tools, computers, dev kits, new studios etc to make that FF computer movie and basically lost 10s of millions of dollars due to mismanagement in the making of that movie.

I feel FF14 did the same thing. They tried to reinvent the wheel and couldnt do it fast enough to meet the deadlines they had set before them. Once it was clear they couldnt stall anymore, they copy and pasted the game together in record time and shipped it to beat all the new MMOs on the horizion. That would explain only 3 zones, grinding on 1 mob from lvl 25-50, no quests, generic graphics, and copy / pasted terrain to an extent never seen in any mmo ever released.

I think they realized this had bust written all over it well before it shipped, but tried to capitalize on the hype and momentem it would have before all the new MMOs coming out are scheduled to release.

I dont think they intend on supporting this product and it will never recover. When you have less than 30k people playing a brand new MMO thats free to play that also had a AAA budget and a rabid fanbase, its time to just start over.

Anyways. Let's use this thread instead of the general MMO thread from here on out for FFXIV-specific news.

First thing to address:

SERVER MAINTENANCE - The data centers are getting upgraded/expanded, so hopefully that fixes everyone's issues with getting into the game. It will be on September 3rd (tomorrow) from 5PM - 3AM PDT.
