I noticed today on my back fender on either side of the well that something dented and chipped paint. Too small to have been a vehicle. Hasn't been near shopping carts for a while. My SO drove it to work and parked in a garage, but I'm still baffled at what could have caused it. Seems like it could have been one of those big carts from Home Depot, but I haven't been to one of those in a while.

I had something like this happen at the beginning of March. Our driveway really only fits one car at a time - so during the week (well - when we were both commuting to work) one of us would park in our "shoulder" driverway. Its basically a graveled strip of yard next to the street.

We were hanging out with my parents for most of the day. As we were pulling into the driveway I immediately noticed something wrong with my back-bumper. Something had knocked the rear fender in, dented and cracked the bumper (just enough). I noticed some scuff marks on the top of our mailbox, but no tire marks or any other evidence.

Certainly no ****ing note.

I'm not all that familiar with insurance so this may be absolutely normal, but it really makes no sense to me.

In June I had braces put on and have been going roughly every two weeks since for adjustments. At the initial treatment I paid for the whole treatment up front and I had to remind the receptionist that yes, we are definitely using insurance for this.

Earlier this week my insurance posted the Explanation of Benefits for the claim. Apparently they're going to piece-meal the reimbursements/payments over the course of the treatment. Fine. Apparently they've already remitted a payment to the dentist.

So I call the dentist office just to see what the deal is because I would like to know when to expect my money back. She explained that they hold the insurance payments until the end of the treatment and then remit to the patient. Ok. Whatever.

My gut feeling and vibe I'm getting from this whole thing is something is not right. Just from an efficiency perspective (which I know I know - INSURANCE) its about as backwards as ****. My real hang-up is why is the dentist collecting payments from Insurance when the bill is paid in full and why the **** would they not remit the reimbursement to the covered patient immediately?

Get the **** out of here, grandpa who just started using Facebook and Gen Z mother****er that can't go 5 minutes without posting a selfie.

In the beginning, or at least when I began, we used pseudonyms because nobody knew each other nor I wasn't sure I wanted to know anyone or anyone to know me. That's not an "internet thing" that's just a "how I am" thing and it has served me well. I value my privacy and have to balance that with whatever I decide to share on the internet.

Oh so now grandpa's (and by grandpa I mean anyone over 40 or so) and Gen Z are re-thinking this whole "let me use my real identity on the internets but woops they might steal said identity so I don't know anymore". That's right idiots, anonymity is better, if you wanna use your real identity on Twitter or use your real Facebook account to post on The Huffington Post I won't stop, you do you, but you ain't going to dictate to me how I conduct myself in the Internet, rookie.

a lot of this went over my head and I had to google some definitions, but if you paid it full on the front end, I don't really understand why anything happens after that, it's been paid!

A few years ago, my dentist at the time wasn't in my insurance network. The dentist charged me the full amount up front for cleanings, etc., but then the insurance company sent their share directly to me afterward. So yeah, something seems off, FT.

I reached out to my HR department who put me in contact with our Health Advocate team.

I went for an adjustment yesterday and when the nurse was doing my temperature check the receptionist handed me a folded check for what the insurance had sent.

There's still a "co-pay" amount on the explanation of benefits statement, but I have not been billed. Yet.

I even went through hoops to get the dentist office to submit the pre-determination of benefits for my actual procedure. When they submitted it originally it was coded as "consultation services" and obviously not covered. So fast forward to me checking out and having to remind the receptionist that yes, I'm definitely claiming this with the insurance.

Silver lining is the dentist told me I should have the braces off by the end of the year.

Another driving gear grinder, this time about pedestrians.

1. When someone is parked on a one way street (or just any street with narrow space), they open the door to their car...and leave it open. Like they'd open it, and regardless if they got out or not, they just leave it open.

Or get out of the car, doors open, they're standing in the road talking to someone and couldn't care less that a car is coming. Yes technically theres space to pass, but you have to drive almost against the curb on the other side to squeak past them as they stand there staring you down being like "you have space". I don't care if I technically have space, why are you standing in the middle of the road talking to someone when you clearly see a car coming?

2. People crossing the street who don't realize they're crossing the street. I'm sure everyone's dealt with those pedestrians who don't even bother looking when crossing and just out of nowhere decide to cross. I honestly wonder if these people ever realize they were literally seconds away from possibly dying, and its very likely happened on multiple occasions. Or ones who stand by the curb, have time to cross, don't, so you think they're not crossing afterall, but as soon as your car is about to drive off, they suddenly start crossing.

I used to be pissed at people who would get in their car, turn on their engine, and not leave their spot immediately. Now I'm one of those people because I want my engine and parts to all get lubricated before I start moving.

I don't know if that's the reason that others do it or if they're just checking their phone or something, and I guess sometimes I can move out of the space at least and then sit idle after... not to mention this issue doesn't really ever arise from me because I park away from other cars when I can (and never under trees), but I'm just saying maybe that's where they are coming from when they're sitting there for a moment.

Or maybe they're just using their phone to text someone or get directions before heading out, who knows really.

I don't know if that's the reason that others do it or if they're just checking their phone or something, and I guess sometimes I can move out of the space at least and then sit idle after... not to mention this issue doesn't really ever arise from me because I park away from other cars when I can (and never under trees), but I'm just saying maybe that's where they are coming from when they're sitting there for a moment.

Usually if I do that, it's either winter and I'm warming it up beforehand, or summer and letting the fan run for a bit.

Although I'm not someone who likes parking close to a store. I'll go for a further away spot. I get it if a parking lot is crowded that you wait for someone to come out, but the amount of time you're spending waiting or driving around looking for a spot is probably more than the time it would've taken you to walk from a further away spot.

Similarly, that's why I also park further away. I hate parking in a high traffic area (as in lots of cars driving past or worse, people walking almost against a cars bumper not even realizing the engine is on and if the car moved even an inch, it would hit you). I just go to a less crowded area. I'll take the extra 15 second walk over dealing with someone stalking me and my car waiting for the spot rather than park 10 spots down, or trying to drive/reverse out of a spot only to have person after person walk right infront of your car.

this is why I stealth approach my car and enter in a way other drivers don't see me thinking I'm ready to leave. but sometimes I know that's just not an option, especially if you need to put something in the trunk

That's how I am now with my new car. I will happily go to the end of the lot if it means getting a spot ASAP, not getting dinged, and not being under trees. I have more of a habit of doing that now than anything else these days.

Okay, there was this weird time that I bought these two stools at Costco and I stupidly decide to bring my Civic instead of the family minivan, and I was literally in the back row of the Costco (which was no doubt a packed house). I was visibly having a lot of trouble finding a way to ideally get them fitting in my car while a car was waiting for me. It took me like eight minutes in total, but all the meanwhile I kept signaling toward the person: "Look bruh, find another spot. There is a big chance I might have to go back into the store if I can't fit this." No dice, they just stuck it out.

Quite the troopers, but they really could have found anybody else leaving during that span.

I do it just to annoy people who may be waiting for my spot when there are plenty of other spots.

Yeah, I guess I'm referring to there either being no spots, or there being no spots in the immediate area (like you'd be walking another minute).

My train of thought would always be: "All you gotta do is eek out of the spot. It's rude." Haha.

Back in the day, I would happily be the other guy. If a car was looking for a spot, I would gesture to where my car is so they'd know that I'd be quick and will zoom out if needed (remember, I reverse into spots so it's a quick getaway haha). I feel like a hero in those moments, though they'll never see me again.
