Sorry if this has already been answered but how long are the Insanity workouts? Thinking about trying this after I finish p90x

Short, at least in month one. The videos are 35-40 minutes long and that includes a 10 minute warm up, 7-8 minutes of stretching and 5-7 minute cool down. The actual "workout" part is only 15-20 minutes. Sounds easy but it's hell.

Will this replace my cardio at the gym? as far as results? I usually hit the stationary bike for half an hour and burn about 500 cals

Not much, maybe 10x10 ft. Though some of it includes jump-n-reach moves that you won't be able to do in a basement. And depending on how tall you are you may not be able to do the jump moves at all down there.

I am 5'9". Can I adapt the jump and reach workouts?

Haha, yeah I read that in the guides. Not going to be fun.

The thing with the second circuit in power cardio/plyo is that my shoulders often give out before my legs or abs which is annoying. I have to take a break from in-n-outs or the ski abs because my shoulders are fried, not my abs.

Then Max Plyo is really going to be rough. Lots of shoulder stuff.

2nd month: around 55 mins

I am 5'9". Can I adapt the jump and reach workouts?

Sort of - Instead of reaching straight up with your hands, you can bend at your elbows and put your elbows to the sky.

I haven't done it but I'm pretty sure this workout will blow away anything you could do on a machine at the gym

The warm up alone will give you more burn then riding a bike for 30 minutes. A bike doesn't hit your quads or work on explosive moments at all. I think you should try Insanity.

Yeah it's not even in the same league. I did 10 weeks solid of p90x, do regular long runs and bike sessions and thought i was getting pretty fit but insanity is a whole other monster.

It's like reverse HIIT where instead of doing short bursts of hardcore cardio followed by a break you do long (well it seems LONG) bouts of intense work followed by this tiny little breaks then back into it again. At least they got the name right because it's bloody insane.

Yeah, and the :30 breaks are definitely not long enough in most cases, especially if you do as they recommend and make sure your heart rate lowers in between each circuit.

been doing this for like 6 weeks. it is the best cardio/interval training you can do imo. added benefit is it will increase your hops, for real. i have been doing some of the workouts with my strength shoes on, had not used them in months. i am 6 foot even, right around 200-205 lbs. i always could throw down but man, just seems like i got that extra level back, definitely due to the exercises in the insanity program...

Just got Insanity. Hopefully I can stick with this unlike my P90 venture. I think this fits me better right now so I can strictly focus on weight loss.

I still haven't finished the power cardio/plyo workout from start to finish. I have to stop and take breaks during the second circuit. The burpees feel like they are never ending, I think I'll get through it but then I crash with a few left. I am interested to see what month two brings, Pared. Should be nice brutal.

Hopefully we get some more OSers to try this and contribute to the discussion.

Once I finish up p90 I'm going this route. I've done a couple of the videos and it's tough.

Yeah, I definitely will Pared. I assume if I order Friday when I get off of work I will get it around Tuesday or Wednesday next week. That gives me about a week before we start the program. Is there anything you can suggest that will help me and my girl be better prepared for it?
