    Re: Insanity

Insanity is perfect for what you're trying to accomplish. Gets your quads/hip flexors etc back in gear (aka the explosive muscles that you don't use in every day life).

I noticed a pretty significant difference on the basketball court after just the first week of Insanity. It doesn't take long to wake up those muscles I mentioned above but it makes a big difference in your performance. Stamina, explosiveness, etc improves quite a bit. You get that "light on your feet" feeling pretty quickly when doing Insanity, so that sluggish/dead legs feeling you might get while playing intramurals will be gone.

If you've been really lazy for a few months though you will probably want to die halfway through the first real workout.

      Re: Insanity

I did the back and biceps p90x workout the other day and my heart rate was 140 after the warm up haha, but when it's 106 outside during the day and 90* when it's dark and 78 inside your house it's hard to get the motivation to run.

I love that these are only 30 minutes, an hour was just so long and lowered my motivation to get off the couch even more since it took up realisticty 1.5-2 hours of your day with ab ripper and recovering.

Ever since I completed p90 I've been obssessed with heart rates & minimal rest time in between sets. I actually noticed that when I do long-distance runs my heart rate is pretty high which surprised me. Ive gone back to just regular lifting at the gym but I wear a watch and give myself 45-50secs in between sets. Helps keep my heart-rate up and stops me from BS'ing around in there.

That is so true. I do the same (keep a stopwatch running to make sure my rest times are always under a minute) and it makes a huge different to the intensity of a workout. I see guys at the gym do a set of bench, go send a text, go get a drink, check out a women on the stairmaster, send another text, talk to a buddy then go back to do another set and it's like 5-10 minutes between sets. They often then brag about spending 1-2 hours a day in the gym. They could get better results in way less than half the time.

              Re: Insanity

Started the second half this week.

Max Interval Circuit wasn't as bad as I anticipated, but Max Plyo was pretty brutal. Wasn't expecting the high number of pushups. Getting through the Level 3 drills was pretty damn tough.

Max Cardio tonight has me pretty nervous.

I'll go back and read through, but anyone have some good ideas for

              a) a drink/supplement to give me a boost to get through the workout
              b) a drink/supplement to help with recovery

I just finished up my bag of protein, which I had been taking post workouts, but figured there is probably something much better I should be taking.

              Thanks!

I don't like taking supplements pre-workout, whey gives me a lightheaded feeling for whatever reason mid-workout.

I usually have an apple and greek yogurt before hand and then a scoop of whey with water post-workout.

I've been eating a lot (or what feels like a lot) and often.

Breakfast (6:45): 4 Egg whites scrambled with some diced ham and fat free mozzarella cheese on top of a low fat-high fiber english muffin with a glass of V8 fusion (serving of fruit and vegetables).

(This is typically the only non water drink I drink all day). After this, I probably drink 8-10 glasses of water a day through out the day)

                    Morning Snack (9:30): Protein Bar

Lunch (12:00): Leftovers (Taco Salad made from turkey meat with black beans, spaghetti made from turkey meat, chicken/pork loin with vegetables and rice) and usually a piece of fruit (banana, grapes or apple)

Afternoon snack (3:00): (Low Fat Yoplait yogurt)

Dinner (6:00): Same as lunch (Taco Salad w/turkey meat, Turkey Spaghetti, Chicken Breast, Lean steak (Sirloin), Pork Tenderloin, Turkey Burger. Sometimes we end up eating a frozen pizza or grill some beef burgers, but try to stay away as much as possible

                      That looks good!

One thing I have to work on is strict water intake and completely avoiding milk and fruit juices or gatorade/power-ade type drinks. You eliminate a countless amount of calories when strictly drinking water. It's just been hard for me to do but I'm getting there

                        Re: Insanity

Just finished this weekend. Glad it's over. Nice to have a bit of a break. I enjoyed the program, but when I do these things, I can't stand to miss a day, so my social life tends to suffer a bit as I try to force in my workouts.

My wife did the entire program with me 6 weeks after giving birth. Very proud of her. After not being able to workout for several months and then after recovering from a c-section she was a champ.

We did take a two week break after week 2 when we traveled out of state on vacation, but hit it hard when we got back without skipping a workout.

I lost probably about 7-8 pounds and my wife lost about 12.

My fit test results (First - Last):
                        1) Swith Kicks: 100 - 113
                        2) Squat Jacks: 44 - 55
                        3) Power Knee's: 72 - 104
                        4) Power Jumps: 26 - 70 (This absolutely wore me out for the next few)
                        5) Globe Jumps: 6 - 11
                        6) Suicide Jumps: 13 - 16
                        7) Push Up Jacks: 30 - 45
                        8) Plank to Knee: 55 - 72 (I think...I lost count)

I'm curious to see what kind of jumps others made.

Overall I enjoyed the program. I liked it more than P90X. It helps that it was 9 weeks instead of 13 and it helped the workouts were a little shorter. I've never done that much cardio in my life, but at the same time, I feel like as a result, I lost some strength and muscle mass in some areas (bi's tri's and back). I'm heading back to the gym this week and am curious to see how well I can handle the weights I did prior to the workout.

Congrats on finishing. I stopped doing it three weeks ago and holy hell my knees feel so much better. I love this program but I can't do it for too long.

Yeah, definitely a tough workout for anyone with bad knee's. Regardless of how good your shoe's are and how "soft" you can land on your jumps, there is just a ton of stress on those joints.

I confirmed what I thought. Went to the gym yesterday and lifted chest and back (basically a modified P90X chest and back workout) and I am sore as crap today. I liked Insanity, but it definitely leaves out some muscle groups.

I am debating between this and P90X, so I am interested to know if you lost any notable strength when you worked out?
I understand you're sore, but was it harder then before?

Both of these programs offer something different and unique. I love that insanity is shorter than p90, but I really don't need to lose weight.
I would love to get a certain "spring" in my step back though for basketball starting up soon.

Both programs are great but if you mainly want to lose weight and improve your explosiveness for bball i would recommend Insanity. It really gets you in great cardiovascular shape and even though the workouts are shorted they are very intense and will get the job done. Can't really go wrong with either though and like with most legit programs you get out of it what you put in.
