Re: Weight Loss - Tips & Daily Check-in

Question for the low calorie/fasting guys...

The hunger issue with fasting wouldn't really bother me. I feel like I'm always hungry with the diet I'm on now and I eat 6 times a day. The real issue I think for me is my energy level. When i miss a meal I feel myself get really shaky and jittery. I also have much less strength than I normally would. This morning's workout was a perfect example. I didn't eat a lot after lunch yesterday and worked out this morning before breakfast. I wasn't able to do nearly the amount of weight/reps that I normally would in this workout and felt shaky and light headed after.

Are you guys feeling these effects when you workout or on the days you fast? Is there a way to avoid it?

Re: Weight Loss - Tips & Daily Check-in

I feel light headed sometimes on fasting days, which is why I had a small salad of spinach, cucumbers, turkey and cheese with vinegar yesterday. As for low calorie, workout days, I always eat a banana or some carbs about 20 minutes before I work out. If I were you i'd try that and anytime you feel like you're shaky, jittery or light headed eat some fruit or vegetables. I know it sounds crazy but I like to just eat raw cucumbers or tomatoes. I dice them up at my desk and eat them as I work.

I guess my point is that you can still eat on low calorie days more regularly but by working in very low calorie items like bananas, tomatoes, grapefruit, oranges, etc you can get energy boosts without killing your calories. Just to state it another way, if I was on a 1200 calorie a day diet like I am now and ate Hardees and Wendy's for breakfast and lunch I'd have a hard time making it throughout the day too because those meals are much higher calorie and you can't spread the cals all over the day. But by eating these low calorie natural foods i'm able to keep my energy up, eat often, but still come in @ a low calorie range each day.

      So does that help?

Re: Weight Loss - Tips & Daily Check-in

Yeah that definitely helps. I'm not doing a super low calorie diet but I'm probably somewhere in the 1600-2000 range so if I skip a meal I don't feel that great. I think I need to start having a small snack before working out in the morning. I usually feel OK but I will occasionally feel myself dragging during my weight workouts.

Raw cucumbers and tomatoes definitely don't sound weird to me. I eat raw cucumber slices with my lunch now instead of eating potato chips.

You know I've read in Men's Health that you should ALWAYS eat a banana, a pear, or some sort of something like that 20 minutes prior to working out. I'm about to eat a banana now and then my workout is in 20 minutes.

I have a potato I may slice up for my afternoon lunch. Slice it up like french fries and eat it raw!

Is the potato good? Never thought about doing that.

Yeah, I just wash the potato, slice it up into like fries shapes, then run the slices under a little water to get it moist, then eat them like you would french fries. A little salt and pepper perhaps, unless you're watching your sodium of course and maybe some ketchup as well. Pretty good that way.

Just got back from gym, did 46 minutes on the elliptical and burned 650 calories. I was really struggling to get going, I guess the walking over the weekend perhaps tired my legs out a little or something. But I finished strong.

                Having lunch now:

                2 pieces of Alaskan Cod
                Peas
                Corn
                Carrot sticks
                1 Orange
                Total Calories: 450 calories

Definitely not a good weekend for food LOL.

Friday had pizza with the girlfriend.

Saturday had 25 wings at lunch, a buffet at the indoor football game, and about 14 beers throughout the day. Payed for it yesterday.

                  Sunday had leftover pizza.

                  Ouch.

That sounds about how a lot of my weekends used to be, i've been slowly weaning myself from the pizza/wings thing though.

Oh and btw - people at work all hate me for cooking fish all the time, I keep getting this "ooh is that fish you're cooking?" and i'm like yeah, so what...LOL, go eat your donut!

That's a damn good workout. Do that everyday and you'll shed.

Yeah man, thanks, i'm doing it 3 times a week. The other 2 i'm doing 30 minutes and then weight lifting.

The oxygen rush is great. I think i've probably doubled my lung capacity in the last 3 months, LOL.

Hit up the elliptical: 216 calories (or so it says).

I'm sure I'll feel good once my legs regain feeling.

Just finished dinner. I'm sitting @ 400 calories for the day. Gonna hit some cardio and the sauna in a bit.

edit: Weighed-in @ 217 after my weekend fiasco. I gotta learn to stay focused and disciplined even on the weekends. The worst feeling in the world is waking up Monday to find out all the hard work you put in M-F was undone in a senseless weekend of grazing party platters and boozing (but that's what the good Lord intended for me to do during the Masters ).
