That's where it's at to me. I don't count calories, but don't think it's "wrong" to do so. I don't drink diet drinks because I can't stand the awful after taste they have. I eat pizza maybe 1-2 times a week. I make it myself. Right now I have a dough I made in the fridge that I could heat the oven up with and do a medium size pizza and eat the whole thing, but I won't.

Moderation is the key for me.

But I think folks take the word moderation and morph it into what they believe it means. Somebody can call eating fried chicken 3 nights a week (instead of 7) moderation.

I don't think there is a pure definition for the word moderation and as a result, we have certain people telling others that they are consuming something a little too much.

You have to define it for yourself. I don't think it's some type of absolute that is from an external source. You have to come to terms with your goals and then set limits. The root word of moderation is moderate. You have to watch over what you are doing and adhere to your core guidelines if you want to meet goals. Otherwise, you could simply go the way of imbalance and be unstable in all you do.

Re: Weight Loss - Tips & Daily Check-in

Well that's true, you can kid yourself about moderation. However, there should be a compromise between health and living. If you deprive yourself of every single thing you love in order to live a long and healthy life and then go and get hit by a truck where did it get you? But on the flip side, what if you *do* live a long and healthy life, you do want to spend it being able to walk and healthy for an old dude right?

So there must be, in my opinion anyways, moderation in regards to what you feel is best. For some people that is 5 pepsis a day instead of 10. I agree that is not moderation to me. But then I don't have to live in their body either so I am not going to consider their view of moderation wrong because that's their idea of it.

The dangerous line you walk DC, maybe not for yourself, but for giving advice to others, is you can make it seem as if it's almost impossible to achieve a healthy life. I mean I know you are just trying to give your opinion like any of us and that's cool, and you won't have to worry about this from me, but for some people if you advise them in the way that you do they could just say "you know what, screw it, i'm never going to live up to that standard" and then go eat a twinkie and have a milkshake.

Again, I don't want you to feel as if I don't appreciate your input, because I'm actually utilizing some of it. But I'm just saying that some folks may feel overwhelmed by such a high bar that you're saying should be met and simply give up. And that's not good. I kind of try to live by the motto of do your best and try to do better than the day before that.

                For Lunch today I had:

                Chicken Breast (150)
                Hot sauce, spicy garlic (50)
Green Giant peas and corn, 1 tub (80)
                Baked Beans, small helping (50)
                Light n' fit yogurt (70)
Carrot sticks to snack on (30)

Total Calories: 430 + 370 from breakfast = 800 calories today so far

I did 52 minutes on the Elliptical for 671 calories burnt (I did 1 more calorie than my previous workout LOL).

Oh and I placed 2nd in the gym weight loss contest with 1 pound lost. First place guy was 3 pounds lost and last place was 1/2 pound lost. I'm actually happy with 1 pound lost since I lost 3 or whatever last week. Can't have a big loss every week. Well I normally don't anyways.

I'm just kidding. But I'm seriously not brewing up my own tea everytime I want something besides water. That's a sad way to live my life.
I think not being able to eat what I want, when I want, like I could when I was younger is a sad way to live life but, that's just me.

Anyways, my girlfriend and I didn't watch what we ate while we where on vacation and I enjoyed every minute of it. We had a big breakfast, lunch, and a nice dinner (with appetizer, entrée and dessert most nights).

I'll name just a few things I had just for the sake of conversation. For breakfast, I had everything from western omelet's, to fruit waffle's and chocolate chip pancakes. For lunch, usually had a something kind of small. One day I had a teiyaki burger, a pineapple burger and spam wasabi. For dinner, I tried something different every night, we had a luau one night which was a huge feast and I totally pigged out (literally). We had buffet dinner's twice once went we went out on a Catamaran and another night we went to an all you can eat seafood buffet. Other entrée's I had that I can remember is seafood fajitas, seafood rizotto and prime rib.

Luckily, I didn't gain much weight even though I ate that much (just gained a pound or two). I think the reason for that was because we stayed so active while we were there. We did all kind's of different activities like snorkeling, mountain biking, hiking, walking (a lot), etc. Things like that really makes my wish that we had things to do like that here but, unfortunately there nothing to do outdoor's here.

Since I came home we started our "Kevin and Amanda" diet. This diet was inspired by my girlfriend reading aukevin's wife's website. It's basically just a way for us to kind of watch what we eat but, still eat the food's that we enjoy the most. Since we've been back home I've lost the two pounds that I gained in Hawaii and am back down to my lowest weight so far this year which is 214. Hopefully, I can stay strong and keep fighting the good fight but, we'll see.

That sounds better than my trip to Chicago and then Richmond in which I gained 17 pounds in 3 weeks! And although I didn't exercise like in a gym we walked everywhere AND I didn't even eat what I wanted, I mean I ate pizza in Chicago but didn't stuff myself. Just goes to show that some people can get away with that (you) and others cannot (me!), LOL!!

Sounds like a good day for you roadman. I ate some grapes, a string cheese and two pieces of 2% cheese on unsalted crackers for my snack. so I'm at about 1,000 calories for the day.

I walked the dog but only about a half a mile as my legs are just DONE today.

Not sure what I'll have for dinner to be honest.

Just bought some fish oil today, had a tsp with some homemade (chicken & peppers) pizza. When I was dieting (Jan-Feb) I used to have tuna & flounder here and there but

so i'm looking to fish oil for my omega 3s. I've had a recurrence of carpal tunnel symptoms and some lifting related back issues and i'm hoping the fish oil will help with the inflammation.

On the topic of supplements though, I came across this visual and found it pretty interesting. Basically it is a (flash?) chart of popular supplements and the strength of the scientific evidence behind them. For example, fish oil's evidence rates as strong in helping high blood pressure & secondary heart disease, and promising for behaviour and general health.

The brand I picked up was Carlson's very finest. High EPA & DHA values per tsp.

I already commented before on the whole watching the scale all the time thing that you guys do (and I guess I do as well) but you have to know that the difference between the last number you saw and the current number doesn't necessarily mean you gained/lost that many pounds. For example, I weigh myself at the same time daily (not long after waking up) and yet in the span of two days, I've seen it go as high as 223 and as low as 210 (latter stage of a fast). Get to know your weight fluctuation and how your carb intake & water intake affects the number you get. I've seen 8 pound swings just off of having stuffed myself with carbs and drinking alot of water, and more when you throw in a fast. In reality, I lost a pound (From 218-217) but I never changed what I did in a day based off of the scale.
