This is going to pretty much look like a cycling journal soon, as my workouts are all about the bike right now. Did ten miles today. It felt good. Even when I exerted myself on the hills, it was less painful than before, or at the very least, a familiar pain. Found out there's a private basketball court on the roof of my gym. Good news for me, bad news for my buddies who want to play pick up ball

This week: looking to add leg, lower back and ab workouts to my cycling. I can feel my bike addiction settling in already, so I'm not too worried about my body yelling "QUIT, QUIT, QUIT" after a workout.

I probably won't mention the eating anymore, since that's a switch I've already flipped and my diet has only changed for the better since day one.

Good luck to everyone else staying on the wagon.
Sounds like it's going well Born. I've been going well myself. Started up running on a regular basis which i enjoy (and my dog loves me for it). I aim to run every 2nd day and maybe just walk on the off days + throw in a few weights sessions each week. Eventually i'd like to be able to get up to running nearly everyday but i don't want to go to hard too soon and end up hurting myself or giving up.

Diet has been pretty good recently, had a few slip ups on the weekend but nothing too bad, just need to get recommitted to my no drinking alcohol policy and i'll be going great. Do you drink at all Born?

Nah, no drinks. I had three screwdrivers the Friday before last, but haven't had a drop since then. I'm not much of a drinker anyway, so that's not an issue. The only time I go off book is when the boss buys pizza, but it's flatcrust and I don't have too much and it's only one day per week, so I don't think it hurts my overall diet.

I'm not overweight but I need to lose about 10 pounds for the start of fall soccer lol.

I'm 6'0 165 right now, but since I am usually around 155 I feel like a total lard ***. I just need to start running every other day again (I've been running about once a week over the summer months) & stop drinking so much damn beer. Cutting out the excess pints would probably be enough to lose the weight, but not quick enough, plus I need to aerobic endurance achieved from running.

It also doesn't help having a pregnant wife in the house, she's eating for 2 & gaining weight, I just can't gain it along with her

I've been going great lately. Been getting my cardio done for the most part and eating really well. I have been cooking most of the meals at home so my wife and daughter are also eating better as a result as well. Way more veges and salad's then before and trying to limit the pasta etc which is hard because my wife is half Italian and is a superb cook.

One thing i have also noticed is that I am sleeping better than i was before. It's almost as if i'm out like a light as soon as my head hits the pillow now whereas before it would often take me hours to get to sleep.

I have missed breakfast a few times in the last few weeks unintentionally which i'll try not to do too much but other that everything is going really well.

I was on vacation for a week last week so I ate everything I couldn't normally eat all week long. I gained a pound so I'm sitting at 319.8 currently. I hope to be sub 300 by Thanksgiving!

I was at 210 at the doctor's three weeks ago...now at 205. Cholesterol was way high so I've cut out cheese, eggs, red meat, and fast food. Eating more fiber, fruit, nuts, vegetables, white meat, and fish. And I switched from beer to red wine. Smaller portions is key (duh!). I love food and the hardest part is breaking the pattern of wanting to eat a lot. Whenever I get the urge, I have to remind myself that I don't NEED to.

By the way, if you do need to eat out go to Taco Bell and get the steak cantina taco...only 160 calories!! Hell, get three. They taste really good, too.

Sounds good mate. I recently did the same (ditched the beer for red wine) and i think it helps. The thing with red wine is i can have 1 or 2 and i feel like i don't need anymore but with beers I often find myself going back for a 3rd, 4th, 5th etc.

From every study i have seen the health benefit of red wine in moderation are excellent and in a lot of studies it says it's actually more beneficial to drink 1-2 glasses per day rather than not drinking at all. I know both of my grandparents were told by their GP to have 2 glasses a night and their doc even "prescribed" a few different wines they might like.

That cantina taco line sucks. Maybe it was just the one I had, but it tasted awful, and the texture of the tortilla was terrifying.

                          How's it going everyone!!!

I think i'm gonna start posting my daily routine etc here to keep myself on track. Sorry if people get sick of the posts but i'm sure you'll get over it. This first one will be much longer than the usual one just to list everything.

So today this is what i have planned:

Alarm went off at 5am and i bounced out of bed (ok so actually i dragged my tired *** out of bed ). I know this might sound strange / gross but i leave a can of sugar free V (not sure if you guys get that in the US but it's like Red Bull) and when my alarm goes off the first thing i do is crack the can and chug it down. No way in hell i'm going back to bed after that!!!

It's monday morning here in Australia so today is my chest day. I got kitted up in my workout gear ie crappy old baggy shirt and shorts + beat up Asics + 4 year old ipod and did 10 mins warmup on the treadmill. I'm lucky enough to own a treadmill and decent home gym so i workout at home. After my 10 min warmup + some stretching i did the following:

                          1. Incline DB press (4 sets of 10-12)
                          2. Flat bench press (4 sets of 8-10)
                          3. Flat DB press (4 sets 8-12)
                          4. 3 sets of pushups to failure

took me about 1/2 hour or so with rest period's kept to a maximum of 1 minute.

Once that was done i grabbed the the dog leash and a few poop bags and was out the door running with my dog. I did 5k in just under 30 mins then home and into the shower and helping my daughter and wife get ready for the day. The damn dog must have been saving it up for me because i had to stop 3 damn times to pick up after it. Seriously the only thing i hate about having a dog.

                          Breakfast:
1 cup raw oats (i just prefer them raw, they seem more filling to me that way)
                          1 cup low fat milk
1 scoop of cookies and cream protein powder (I mix the powder with the oats while they are dry, drop in the milk, stir it up and munch it down with a BIG glass of cold water).

Off to drop my daughter at daycare + work

                          Lunch is usually 12-12.30am

1 large grilled chicken breast (no skin)
                          1 cup brown rice
                          1 cup broccoli steamed
                          1 Diet coke

I have a protein shake in the afternoon around 3ish which i blend up the night before that includes:
                          1 Scoop or powder
                          1 cup lowfat milk
                          1 frozen bannana
                          1 cup cold water
Finish work about 5 and head home for some time with my wife and daughter.

Dinner around 6-7. This varies but tonight we are having:
1 piece of fish grilled (Australian Barramundi tonight, very nice!)
                          green salad
a few pieces of low fat cheese
                          no fat salad dressing
                          1/4 an avocado

A then get prepped for the next day and relax by playing some games or watch tv with the Mrs then i'm usually in bed by 10-11pm.

According to fitday i'm taking in roughly 1900 cals with a mix of 45% protein, 35% carbs, 20% fat. I rarely use fitday and usually pretty much the same thing mon-fri with a bit more variety on the weekend:

Sounds like a nice routine. How's your overall progress going so far?

I weighed in yesterday at 212 outta the shower. I plateaued at 215 for a few weeks but it's starting to go again. If I continue to lose at this rate I'll meet my goal of 200 by the end of the year.

I've only been doing cardio. No strength training at all. 1 hour a day, 3-4 days a week. Things have been going well so far. Once I hit my goal I'll add strength training.

Hey Chef yeah things have been going good so far. The early mornings are taking some getting used to but i feel great etc. What weight did you start out at again? Sounds like you have a solid routine that works for you. Must be hard being a chef with all that temptation around (not to mention from what i have read you like a as much if not more than i do).

Woke up 5am today and chugged my sugar free V and straight into the home gym.

                              Did Bi's and abs today:
                              DB curls - 4 x 10
                              EZ bar curls 4 x 12
                              Hammer curls 4 x 10
                              situps 3 x 50

Was feeling a bit sore in the calves from yesterday's run so i just walked the dog for 40 mins at a fairly quick pace today. It was so nice walking back towards my house with the sun coming up, kinda one of the zen moments. (no hippie)

Food is the same as yesterday except i'm making a lamb stir fry with heaps of fresh veges for dinner.

I wonder what happened to ODogg and Born? Hope they are still fighting the good fight!

I started around 240. So I've lost somewhere around 25 pounds so far. It's slow go but I took 3 weeks off or so during the summer and just pigged out and did no excersize.

Extremely difficult but instead of eating massive amounts I basically just taste small amounts all day long and it has done wonders.

Ohhh yeah. But, I cut out the beer completely and went to rum. It's the only "hard liqour" I like and it's alot less calories and I don't get all bloated when I'm drinking. I love it. Good buzz, not bloated, less calories.
