Re: Hurricane Irene
Irene won't be coming here until Sunday. They are predicting the storm will be worse when it hits New England. They haven't asked my part of town to evacuate yet. I'm leaning toward leaving early Sunday morning and heading to my mothers. She lives in the mainland , while I'm right on the coast.
Everyone stay safe over these next couple of days.Comment

Re: Hurricane Irene
You may want to stick around, PPM. With the shift west, I got a feeling we (DMV) are going to get hit pretty hard, and then the path is pretty much straight up 95. I don't know when you'd want to hop on the road and ride along with it. Not to mention, there are plenty of trees and areas that can be flooded along the turnpike. If you can help it, chain yourself in somewhere in DC and wait until it's gone past NYC... and gone for good.
Everyone else be safe and be careful out here this weekend.#RespectTheCultureComment

Re: Hurricane Irene
Well this is a first.
1-Everyone getting off of work any time this weekend(FDNY) is required to either be available to stay, or get someone to cover for you. This is all weekend long.
2-Mandatory evacuations of some areas of N.Y.C.(this one is a direct result of the horrific response by N.Y.C. to the late snow storm this year......IMO this is a total CYA move. Whatever though)
3-The Rockaways are being evacuated and the Fire Companies that cover the area may be pulled off the island as well(this one would really surprise me. I can't even fathom such a thing)

Re: Hurricane Irene
The fact that Irene looks like she will skirt the coastline more than it looked like yesterday could be unfortunate news for those further north.
The storm isn't quite as strong as projected as far as maximum wind speeds go, but Irene has a huge wind field, so the effects of the storm will be felt over a very large area.Comment

Re: Hurricane Irene
I just saw this on CNN.
What Irene could do to New York. It's really scary.
Let's hope this doesn't happen.

Re: Hurricane Irene
The show I watched the other day on the History channel had similar predictions. With New York City being so flat and close to sea level, storm surges would wreak havoc and sever flooding would not be surprising at all.“No one is more hated than he who speaks the truth.”

I had no idea how vulnerable NY was to flooding due to its topography until now."You got it man. I don't watch hockey." SidVish"I thought LeBron James was just going to be another addition to help me score."
