Yeah my area's mostly fine too. Lots of small branches down. Was a tree down down the street. Heard there was a tornado touched down in the neighborhood across from where I work.

Re: Hurricane Irene
Power went off for an hour....back on now. Flooding is everywhere and trees are down by the hundreds up here. Good thing majority of the trees fell in the grass areas and not on the roads itself.
They closed some of the highways up here incase of rock slides and mud slides.
My brother in law wife got stuck in the Bronx. She called from her cell phone and said the 5 boroughs got flooded pretty good, with some much worse then others. Power is out for a good amount of the 5 boroughs, 900,000 people there without power.Comment

Re: Hurricane Irene
Ok power back on for now, it goes on and off, this time it was off for 3 hours. Getting pretty bad here. Water in the streets in the downtown area and low laying areas of the town is 7 feet deep.
Got cars and SUVs floating in the streets. One lady got killed by the rushing water. Her and her boyfriend was standing on the bridge rushing the river rising up and before they knew it the water came up over the bridge and she got washed away from the strong current.
Quite a few bridges up here is washed away now. Another lady had to climb up a tree to get away from the flood waters. I live on the higher end of town, so the water on my block is only a few inches deep. All 3 of the car dealerships in town is flooded out. All you can see is the roof of the cars in their dealership parking lots.
Good number of people dogs got carried away by the flood waters as well. Several towns in southern Vermont are completed flooded out. National guard is rolling out evacuating people in the low laying areas and in many cases, whole towns are being evacuted completely out. State police and regular police going around on bull horns telling people to stay off the road.
Dams are over flowing, 3 of them are on the verge of completely being broken wide open. Too much water, been raining for 24 hours straight.
Roads and highways are closed to all civilian traffic.
People are panicking up here big time. Vermont hasn't seen this type of flooding on such a wide scale in decades.Comment

Re: Hurricane Irene
One of my buddies just called, that lives on the lower end of town. His house is completely under water.....They left 3 hours ago. He tried to go back just now to check on the house and the firefighters got that whole 3 mile stretch of road blocked off. All those houses are under water.
I feel sad for them, those were some big historical houses built in the 1700s.Comment

Re: Hurricane Irene
More deaths in my town......brother and sister walking down the road, swept away by flood waters. 3 firefighters dove in to rescue them. Only the sister and 1 firefighter came out the flood water.
Brother and 2 firefighters drowned.

Re: Hurricane Irene
Why are people up there walking around out there during this storm anyway? That's the part I don't get.#RespectTheCultureComment

Re: Hurricane Irene
Irene fooled them, southern Vermont is cut off from the rest of the USA now. All of our highways and bridges are either under water or completely destroyed. Nobody can get in or out from New York or Masschusetts.
Some of these people were standing on some of the bridges when it got washed away.Comment

Re: Hurricane Irene
Yea, I can only see that picture as well. Looks crazy. I still get a little confused every time a flood happens somewhere with how all that water just stays there in that one area.“No one is more hated than he who speaks the truth.”
