Re: Official OS BBQ/Grilling Thread
After a year with a stick burner offset I am thinking about switching to a pellet grill. I still enjoy it, but fighting fires and dealing with long hours on a thing like brisket have me wanting to switch. Would love to have the ability to throw a brisket on at midnight and not have to worry about it, and it is ready for dinner the next day.
Anyone have experience with pellet grills?Comment

The IT department head at work uses pellets. He loves it and always says how easy everything is now.

I still enjoy the process of smoking with my barrel grill.

Also - did you do anything to that ham, or just throw it in the smoker? The bark looks like there was some glaze or brown-sugar based coating, but having never actually smoked a ham, I have no idea if the natural sugars/salt on the surface results in a nice bark like that.

For sure that's awesome, it just takes so much time/care....Last edited by pietasterp; 12-11-2018, 06:59 PM.Comment

Re: Official OS BBQ/Grilling Thread
Has anyone here used a Traeger smoker before? I'm intrigued by the (relative) ease of it, but I wonder about the results. Would be good to hear some first-hand accounts from real smoked meat aficionados. (hold your jokes)

Re: Official OS BBQ/Grilling Thread
Cooked a big breakfast for the family yesterday morning. Shrimp and grits, biscuits, sausage gravy, sausage, steak and eggs. Everybody loved it, we cooked most of the day going back for leftovers

I don't think I will ever be ready for log smoking, that seems like way more work than I want to have to deal with cooking. Have a friend of mine who was picking saying Electric smoking isn't really smoking then I reminded him he likes my cooking better than his...he was like damn. Pellet smoking is my next and final step. https://www.rectecgrills.com/bull-rt...roduct-reviews is also one I'm looking at
One thing I really like about the Traeger or some other Pellet smokers is you can also use them as a grill which is a big plus for me. Don't always feel like smoking but can still throw it on the grill.Last edited by Sinner; 12-30-2018, 09:51 AM.-= Never argue with an idiot, they drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.=- Edward MurphyComment

Re: Official OS BBQ/Grilling Thread
Did you cook it at 150?
Try patting the entire thing dry before searing, and sear on very high heat. Preferably a cast iron pan. Sorry, but that sear is just wimpy lolComment

What I found is look outside of Traeger. They are nothing special. Seems like they were just the first to make them popular and had some patents for a while. Now there is real competition out there. Do a lot of research, don't just blindly buy the brand name.Comment
