    Re: 2016 FITNESS CHALLENGE

Ran my fastest 3-5 mile run today. I ran 3.83 miles in 30 minutes. Put me around a 24 minute 5k. Which is significantly better than what I used to be at.

I've been eating better and the running has helped (I started around October of last year) and I'm down 15 pounds from where I was this time last year. (170 to 155)

      Re: 2016 FITNESS CHALLENGE

Just got my cholesterol tested. I need somebody to analyze this ish for me. Mind you I get almost zero exercise in because of my head injury. Most comparisons are to my last cholesterol test; others are from different time periods.

Let me know if you need to know any of the abbreviations. I assume the first four are the main ones worth talking about in this thread regarding diet and nutrition.

Main thing I'm sad about is my LDL went up, but my HDL stayed the same.

I'm also not pleasantly excited about my HGBA1C level at 5.8%. I've taken out a lot of milkshakes, though I have so many carrots, bananas and oranges that I guess that kind of sugar intake is bound to be on the high end. At the same time, the real problem is I don't know what it used to be. Maybe it was higher than that three years ago, given the daily ice cream intake (though I didn't have as many bananas or carrots at the time). Probably not very helpful, but I plan on cutting out one banana every day compared to my usual amount of three.

      Here's what another website said:

Your Total Cholesterol of 187 is DESIRABLE
Your LDL of 99 is OPTIMAL
Your HDL of 81 is OPTIMAL
Your Triglyceride level of 35 is NORMAL

      RATIOS:

Your Total Cholesterol/HDL ratio is: 2.31 - (preferably under 5.0, ideally under 3.5) IDEAL
Your HDL/LDL ratio is: 0.818 - (preferably over 0.3, ideally over 0.4) IDEAL
Your triglycerides/HDL ratio is: 0.432 - (preferably under 4, ideally under 2) IDEAL
Same adjectives are used if I plug in my 2013 results, though I tried plugging in other extreme numbers to get different adjectives, and it seems as though "optimal" really covers a very wide range, heh.

Muscle gain is coming along nicely, most of my fat was in my thighs and stomach, so my arms and chest are toning up quickly.

It is a mix of things I have done in the past. It is time consuming but it works for me and the results are great so far.

Down over 11lbs in 3 weeks, so, I'm closing in on 50lbs again. I don't expect that loss to continue, but I'm tracking my food more seriously and working harder at the gym.

My trainer on this New Years Resolution I'm doing at the gym asked me in the weights area if I was pushing myself when I was there. I had to think about that one, I said I do my 12 reps, 3 sets and I'm on the treadmill. She said, I think you should push yourself harder. So, I decided to follow her advice and started to follow her advice at home too, start tracking food better.

Great job pal, keep it up!!! I'm back in the gym lifting and trying to get most of my cardio by taking shorter breaks between sets. Can't really run much but I can weight train so that is what I am doing. Like you, today I started tracking my intake and my focus right now is more of a Keto goal with high protein and low carbs. Getting off of the sugar is going to be key as I usually like it in my coffee in the mornings.

I'm at 212 lbs. So today is a new start!

215 here still. I just cant get back into my grove i was in back in 2013. I'll do alright for a few weeks, eating good (meal prep for whole week), and get 4 to 5 days in at the gym. Then something always throws me off. UGH.

I hit the 50lb weight loss again.

Let's hope this time I keep rolling on instead of going up or flatlining.

                      I just hit 40 again!

Gonna try and hit 50 and then build a bit back with muscle.

Already dropped 3 inches off my waist in only one week. Crazy but true

Staying on the keto diet and doing P90x is already paying off. I am very motivated seeing these results. I'm not going to weigh in for another month as I don't care about the numbers as much as I do about how I feel and how I look in the mirror.

Keep it up guys! Summer is coming.

More power to you if you can disregard the numbers. I always say that I won't care and then two weeks passes and I've worked out hard and had a clean diet...and I lost only 1 lb. I then curse life and ask myself why I even do it lol

Down from 175 to 160 in about five weeks or so. Find a hole in the wall gym, contacted the owner who used to do body building competitions and basically I'm paying $25 a month for a gym membership and for a trainer. Everyone here is also very help.

I go four nights a weekMonday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 5%30-6:30/7 (depending on how many of us work out together) he has exercises setup for different body parts evert day. I definitely have seen changes in the short time.

                            Glad I found this place.

Ran my second 5K of the season. Did the 3.2 for 32 memorial run today at Virginia Tech. Great turnout all the way around for a very meaningful event.

Feels good to getting back into the running routine. Now to hit the weights tomorrow.
