There is a discussion to be had regarding the economy, I just don’t think it should come with saying the virus is overblown or it’s just the flu.

It may eventually be just the flu in a few years with vaccines, but not right now.

Honestly, anyone pointing out discrepancies between projections and reality are not arguing in good faith. Projections were made to warn us to act, to reduce the consequences. And most states did that. Worse, that narrative is driving a narrative that we should leave shelter orders quicker, because the experts were so wrong.

But we're going to have to get their sooner rather than later.

I don't think the virus is overblown. But concerns over the economy aren't overblown either.
What I don’t think people get is that we were at 15 cases, and people mocked it. That’s what got us here. So think about what happens when there are still thousands of cases nation wide, hundreds or less in each state. How do we assume it doesn’t spike almost immediately? It doesn’t take a lot to spend it far and wide.

Until we get three things, we are stuck.

    1. We need proof that recovered patients have actual immunity. There are reports of recovered patients testing positive and getting symptoms again. They are still trying to confirm whether it just never got squashed, or they got infected again. There is also worry about how long immunity will last. If it is just a few months, it’s not gonna help.

    2. We need antibody testing to be widespread. We need to find those antibodies for treatment, and it helps answer the question in the first item.

    3. We need a vaccine.

Without that, we have to squash cases into single digits to open the country. Otherwise we are right back where we started. And, to be cleaR, we don’t know any answers in the first item, and they are critical.

Well, if there is no (or severely limited) immunity then a vaccine is pointless. Thankfully that does not seem to be more than just an outside chance according to the experts.

Thunderbirds did a flyby of the hospitals in Vegas today. Was pretty amazing. Here's a clip of them going down the strip.

Random, but those are JANET airline planes. They service Area 51 and other Air Force facilities from LAS.

I’m still lethargic but I’m feeling slightly better.

I’ll have a consultation via video appointment with my dr tomorrow to discuss vitals and if anything else needs to be done.

My fevers seem to be happening less and are low grade but my oxygen continues to stay around 93-95.

Dr. Fauci talked about the possibility of a rolling re-entry of the of the economy in May. I have been hoping that the reopening of the economy would be gradual. Right now there are millions of people performing jobs at home that can continue to be done from home which I would think would lessen the burden of complete reentry of everyone.

Philippines has had barely any cases outside of Manila which is great. They acted fast and locked down the country. Still more deaths than recoveries though

Well, this isn't what any of us were hoping to hear - and as we continue with the "unknowns" of this virus, South Korea finding an uptick each day with "re-infections" of people who previously were diagnosed.

This isn't going away anytime soon. As much as I hate to say it, this might be the worst thing that ever hit us due to where we are right now as a world. This isn't 1917 - times are different and our lifestyles are much different. We never knew that 2020 might be the greatest game-changer in all of life. I hope I'm wrong...

                          I agree, 2020 is different than 1917.

I would think technology, medicines and staying in touch with other countries are vastly improved over 1917 as well.

CV is like a unscripted movie, we are merely actors or portrayer's waiting for this movie to end.(Rush metaphor in there)

When CV arrived on the scene, there was a article in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel about the Spainish Flu hitting Milwaukee. At that time, it appeared that Milwaukee area had a tough as nails Health Administer. He closed down most parts of the city and manufacturing and left taverns open for patrons to go in and have one drink and leave. He would slowly open the city back up and as soon as the cases increased, he would lock down again.

This strategy went against most of the other cities across the country and he was heralded with saving lives.

I'd like to think this movie we are in will end with a happy ending and hoping this will unite us more than divide us.

                              .

I get that, but that is also the thinking that has made getting ahead of the virus so hard. Everyone has assumed that it will just get taken care of and go away. It’s not a movie. It can still crush us.

St. Louis has similar articles come out about the 1918 pandemic. St. Louis was also aggressive in shutting down, and they ran graphs showing how the different responses affected Philly and StL.

But in 1918, people were still scared of getting sick. Today, the problem is two fold. A ride of populism in the west has politicized everything. A policy zing a pandemic is deadly. The result is so many people seeing a refusal to take this serious as their patriotic duty.

But the other is what I alluded to. Life has gotten easy, and No one ever sees how the sausage is made. So when our experts and health officials have protected us in the past, too many thought it meant the warnings were an overreaction. They weren’t.

That set us up to just ignore this crisis for too long, letting it become embedded on our continent. No one understands that the consequences of not doing anything in late Feb and early March has meant that a nationwide shutdown was always coming. This wasn’t a choice. This was the result of making a terrible choices two months ago.

But none of that should matter right now. Whose fault shouldn’t matter. We have to start making better choices as a nation, or we drag it out and make it worse. We all hate this. The longer significant portions of the country push back on staying home, the more damage that is done long term.

To be honest, I’m just so sick of watching cities and states barely act until it’s too late. We watched the surges in country after country we are watching them in stare after state. But we still have governors trying to avoid acting, acting like they have no idea how an epidemic surge works, despite watching it play out over and over.

“We surely — had we had knowledge of what was to come, we would have taken a different look at it,” he told CNN’s Wolf Blitzer. “And it’s hard to look back now and say we should have canceled Mardi Gras. But with 840 people — deaths in the last 30 days here in Louisiana, surely some of those people probably wouldn’t have been infected, had we took action sooner. But there was only one death — one infection that we knew about during mardi gras.”

I agree Jay, that's why I alluded the movie hasn't ended and we won't know when it ends.

I'm hearing it's the end when a vaccine is available.
