This is a straw man. Everyone agrees there needs to be a phased-in plan to end the lockdowns, but you can't undo them too soon and risk some of the progress we've made against the virus. physical distancing is a joke, all you can try to do is run your errands as quick as possible and leave. Alot of people dont wanna wear mask or a face covering and still cant even cover there mouth when they cough or sneeze

With the issues with the models and data, would most of the country had a problem like NY if they didn't shut everything down?

Safe to say no to this one. Most of the country doesn't have as many people in close proximity as New York does. Big cities would probably be in the ballpark, smaller cities not as much.

Risk of death is unfortunately an accepted part of being alive, so at some point the risk is low enough to start the economy again.

Okay, so at what point is that? Asking honestly, what number are we using and what should it be to show a low enough risk to get things moving again?

Okay, so at what point is that? Asking honestly, what number are we using and what should it be to show a low enough risk to get things moving again?

If it was 60,000-80,000, I think normal social distancing everywhere and local lockdowns in large cities would have been acceptable to minimize the impact to life and economy. At this point most areas need to start opening businesses back up.

Let people limit their risks, but still be able to keep their jobs and survive. People are already breaking the stay at home orders, so it's not stopping much.

Social distancing did get us to that point. Opening back up now changes that to much bigger numbers.

I models weren’t wrong. They were based on no actions first. That how we find out that we need to do something. And while it took too long, we did.

Now, since that went well, people think the moment we start getting fewer cases people want to end. Then they will get mad when the numbers go up.

Even if they are open, do people think others are going to go to restaurants, bars, shopping malls or movie theaters like they were in say January, or in any way that the business would be sustainable, without a vaccine or effective treatment? I'm not getting in a airplane or cruise ship anytime soon. I'm not going into any confined indoor area soon except for a grocery store.

Quebec talked about re-opening the schools by May 4 and quickly backtracked when parents expressed their anger.

I'm a bit confused about this. I'm not anti-opening by any means. I don't like that parks and golf courses are closed. (I don't golf myself but I don't see why people can't play a round even if they have to do it one at a time with closed clubhouses).

Good article about Wuhan today. They are completely free to.donwhay they want and people are still staying home and not risking anything.

Yeah, this is basically where I'm at. Put a detailed plan out and let people discuss the pros and cons of it.

"Reopen the economy" I guess is fun for politicians to say and maybe saying it enough will get the little green arrow back on TV more often, but people are still going to be cautious until they feel safe enough and that there's a real plan behind things. Reopening isn't really open until people decide they're comfortable.

I work in Business Banking for a relatively large bank.

I've worked seven days a week for about three weeks now working with customers regarding the frustrating process with the PPP loans.

I only bring that up to share where I'm coming from.

I view "reopen the economy" as a way of saying give businesses a chance.

To your point, people that don't want to come, won't.

I've had heart wrenching conversations with business owners over the last four days once the federal funds dried up. Businesses that have been open for 20+ years have no chance of re-opening after this. Without even being given a chance.

Most feel they could have made it through if allowed to stay open while following social distancing guidelines.

It's tough, I'm sympathetic for all sides.

A lot of people are coming out of this losing everything they've worked hard for years to obtain. There is no easy answer.

But when I hear "re-open the economy." I take it as give some who may still have a chance, a chance...

As long as people don't mind being tested at work(temperature taking) and social distancing, let er rip, but not until testing is in place for all employees and employers.

Welcome to the new norm for awhile and we are not there, yet.

It's tough any way you slice it. I've seen our son's internship eliminated and my wife's salary cut. My grandma is on lockdown at a nursing home with 0 visitors and not leaving her room. My dad would visit her every day. My mom and dad are self quarantining and we had a good family friend, a nurse from NY, die from CV.

I can't wait for this virus to leave and hoping we will be better prepared in the future for the next pandemic vs the wait this time around.(yes I know where it came from)

My sons 25 year old friend survived Covid and was taken off the ventilator last week.

After being home for a couple of days he got sick again.

He was hospitalized with kidney failure and put on dialysis.

Last night his heart stopped.

This disease is monstrous.

Plus, I(me) will link a medium long article from sciencemag.com on how CV can destroy and or devastate other organs besides the lungs.

After reading the article, anyone from this point forward who wants to join the parade of it's just the flu and or every day deaths don't get the same treatment (ie Dr. Phil or anyone echoing Dr. Phil), will be transcended and zapped to other non social distancing protesters in a box area. lol(kidding, of course)

Maybe you open up all stores with "physical distancing(lol)" and then have it mandated that if someone test positive working there or if 3+ people contact traced there you have to put sign on the door in bold "
