On another note, Wisconsin is trending upward in positive cases and it's not because of more testing:

    539 new cases today.

Percent positive up again, to 5.9.

We saw our lowest number of tests in 5 days... so don't think this spike is because of increased testing.

The largest group of infected persons is 20-29 at 22%.

Here's the actual study if you want to get into the minutiae: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019...e=articleShare

This is kind of what I was thinking (and I'm sure many others) about the virus. I'm pretty sure I've had it, being a teacher and having multiple students miss 2+ weeks with the "flu" back in January/February. I've seen the information about what the virus can do to a person's respiratory system even if they're asymptomatic.

I'm still going to be cautious and wear my mask out in public, but I've never really been that worried about myself or my family getting the virus. Our nanny does fall into the at-risk category as she's 74. She's as active as any 70+ year old I've known and is in great shape, but for her benefit my wife and I take our precautions with masks and disinfecting our home for her.

There's just so much seemingly conflicting information out there, it's very difficult to get a grasp of the seriousness of this virus.
Yea. I've said this when talking about it to people before. It might be common sense, but there was no way our "first case" was late January. Logically, that's almost impossible

We just started testing for it then. Same applies to China. They were having spread before they identified this Coronavirus and started testing for it. So they were also unknowingly spreading it as well

With how easy this spreads and no protocols in place (because it hadn't been identified yet), we have to have been spreading this bad boy around for pretty well for quite awhile. Well before the winter '19 timeframe. As you mentioned, a lot of people just claimed a cold, or flu.

I had came back from a trip to Thailand at the end of April. My return flight was from China. Dude in the seat in front of me and his wife I assume were coughing up a damn storm! The whole 16 hours! I felt so bad for the woman sitting next to them. When I got home, I got sick for a day and was good. Ever since this popped off, I swear that had to have been the Rona [emoji23]

But anyway. As I said, I think it's been around for a hot little minute. We just weren't doing the testing. And as we all should have learned by now, when you don't do testing, you don't have cases. Mainstream media doesn't tell you that.

        Good news, bad news.

I found the video, it's not from Hong Kong, it's the Health Administrator of Singapore, Dr. Yong.

This discussion took place on Feb 3rd, well before the safer at homes took place.

Not sure if anyone saw this but it was found in Spain and another European country early in 2019. It was most like around last year and we went through the start of flu season not knowing what it was and people just being treated for the flu.

Spanish virologists have found traces of the novel coronavirus in a sample of Barcelona waste water collected in March 2019, nine months before the COVID-19 disease was identified in China, the University of Barcelona said on Friday.

“The levels of SARS-CoV-2 were low but were positive,” research leader Albert Bosch was quoted as saying by the university.

Never understood the toilet close thing. Then I gotta open the seat before taking the next leak and what, I gotta wash my hands before I whip it out?

Always seemed like an extra step. Annoying for someone like me who's already got problems with touching surfaces.

When you flush, whatever is in the toilet is aerosolized. So it's can easily be contracted if Rona is up in there

Just touching your junk with the virus won't make you sick. Just make sure you wash your hands after every time you touch your junk and you should be good lol

Oh I was just speaking in general, haha. I know about the spraying effect and it's nasty but I don't know. It's a balance between covering it and then having an extra step to lift seat lid again and wash up before peeing. If I really gotta pee, that presents too much extra time haha.

You had me going here, but later on it states it's not confirmed, they need more samples.

                  Interesting, to say, the least.

Remember when our biggest problem was not being able to get a particular chicken sandwich?

                    Seems like ages ago.

First statistics are out post-George Floyd protests.

Take from it what you will.

You would be a fool and a communist to attribute the spike of 20-somethings to the opening of bars and not the protests.

I'm not sure if you are being sarc or not, but I would bet more people got it from protests that had no restrictions than going to a bar with limited seating. Just my hunch.

I still find where they count deaths thing weird. It’s where you’re from not where you died. If my wife and I die from coronavirus then it counts as Texas deaths not Alaska deaths. We have deaths in Juneau but they didn’t actually die in Juneau. One of them died in New Jersey.

'you bet' - so you just have a conclusion that you've been hoping for the data to support, and then provide that data largely out of context absent any actual analysis.

                                1) I'm all for the protests.

                                2) If you know anything by now, I am hoping for normalcy as quickly as possible, so this result is actually the opposite of what I was hoping.

With that said, let's break down your articles.

The first article-"The Black Lives Matter protests were overwhelmingly led by young people, who are less likely to die or become gravely ill from the coronavirus."

-Except the graph shows that 20-29 year olds are the ones that are spiking, and they are the ones that led the protests, by your article.

The second article I cannot read because I do not subscribe to WSJ.

The third article-"In the cities with large protests, the wider population actually spent more time at home during the demonstrations — suggesting that any surge caused by virus transmission at the protests themselves would have been countered by an increase in social distancing among the rest of the cities’ populations."

Again, that explains why 20-29 year olds are spiking while the rest are staying relatively stable.

Your fourth article-"The population who does not attend the large protests could have their social distancing behavior altered by the presence of the protests locally. If the protests increase the perceived cost of activities outside of the home, individuals would be more likely to avoid those activities
and thus remain distanced from others. This could take the form of additional time costs from traffic congestion or from routing around streets closed off due to protests.

Not trying to repeat myself, but that explains why 20-29 years olds are spiking and the rest of the age demographics are staying relatively stable.
