I think I'm going to look for a low-end Championship team to build up. I figure that will be enough of a challenge, not so daunting as having to be promoted 3 times to get to the EPL, but also not a team that has a squad with the quality to win promotion right away.

Anyone have suggestions for a team who maybe will have the goal of avoiding relegation (or similar) in the Championship? Maybe one of the teams that was suggested by you guys earlier fits that mold, I'm just ignorant when it comes to the lower leagues in England.

You could use Ipswich Town FC. The Tractor Boys notoriously finish in the middle of the table.

        FC United.

But seriously, do Watford or Ipswitch. I think both of those teams have developed a lot of talent recently.

So this fixtures worked out like this:

Sunday at West ham: 3-1 loss

I get the other team in North London in a League Cup tie at their place on Wednesday. Lose 4-1. Played my 2nd team because I have a home fixture with them on Sunday at the Emirates. I win 2-0 and get 6 yellows.

Re: ***The Official Football Manager Thread***

My 3rd or 4th year at Crystal Palace, not sure which off the top of my head.

My incredible youth players are maturing and it's showing. After going all out to win the Carling Cup last year, we have been having immense success this year. We are in the Semi Finals for Europa League against PSG, we are in the Semi Finals for the FA Cup against Liverpool, and we are sitting at 4th, almost 10 points clear of the Man City/Tottenham/Liverpool mess below me.

The most impressive thing that has happened all season? I accepted a 32 million dollar bid for Zaha, finally realizing that my time with him was coming to an end and he was going to leave for greater glory. I was rounding up signings to replace him (Demba Ba for 5 million and an amazing regen AMC from Argentina.) when all of a sudden he comes back saying that the Chelsea offer wasn't good enough, and Chelsea made no follow up offer.

Score one for me, I'll happily accept him back on my team.

For the record, the highest fee I have spent so far was 15m on DMF Kara. My payroll budget has yet to break 1m. The most frustrating thing, though, is that the fans still aren't showing up. We average about an 88% stadium capacity for the season and most of those are boosted when Arsenal, Chelsea or Tottenham come to our side. I figured there would be enough fans in London to go around, but these are the most cynical fans I've ever seen.

Also, Arsenal is dominating the league, and Van Gaul announced he will retire at the end of the year. I'm pretty sure I'll be candidate #1. I was up for the Tottenham job last year, but I declined it because I wanted to watch my youth grow. Also had my application to ManU rejected (right on those bastard's heel's too. I hate that they passed on me for Carlo Ancelotti.) In either case, not sure I could reject Arsenal if they came knocking. They are still, easily, the richest team in the world in my game, and I'm not sure I could resist that temptation.

Decided to start a new save with Ipswich Town. Haven't really gotten into the season yet, just taken a glance at the squad report and taken care of some logistics. We look to have a decent squad; I was thinking of bringing an AM or a CB in on loan, but nobody really jumped out at me in my initial search.

We have very good facilities, so I'm planning to really focus on the youth academy to try and build for a few years down the road. While relying on loaning players for the first couple years to fill holes.

                  Looking forward to the challenge!

Every time I start a save with a lower league team, I always ask the board for a Parent team. With this I'm able to get players on loan without paying a dime.

89th minute, ref's board indicates 3 minutes of added time... I've managed to turn my Dresden team into a ball control team, and we're controlling the pace, and flow of the game. We're playing Schalke, sitting 4th in the table, a win separates me from the relegation pack and inches me closer to a possible Europa League spot. Huntelaar scores. It's 1-0, Huntelaar gets revenge, we get a win, everythings great until

I saw a new feature in 14 is that your parent club will now send you a list of players that you can loan from them. Nice touch.

After testing a tactic and tweaking things with bunch of teams, I started my final save on this version with Cagliari since I haven't used a team in Serie A before. Sitting 8th so far after 12 games with 19 points, but only 3 points behind Napoli who's in 2nd place. Juventus hasn't lost yet and running away with the league. I tied with them so that's good. This co-ownership thing is pretty cool.

Also decided to use Romania as the National Team to coach for. The results has been great so far there, using the same tactic I'm 2nd place in my group for WC qualifying. Beaten Andorra 9-1, Hungary 2-1, Estonia 3-0. Only loss has been 2-1 to Turkey, and I've yet to play Holland.

I'm very glad to hear that, I'm sick and tired of getting a very good parent team but I'm not able get good players or no players on loan.

It starts to get annoying when teams keep offering co-ownership and you keep declining.

I was inspired by this guy's idea (link below) to play FM in "real time" and now have simultaneous Ajax and Toronto saves going where I only continue through the current date (although I'm a little annoyed that I'm starting in 2012 and I really wanted to take the US into a real-time World Cup - oh well, reason to get 14). Let me tell you, it takes an incredible amount of willpower to go day-by-day, but it's a fun challenge.
