3-1 to Man City, but Arsenal will have shown some fight we've not seen in years during the loss.

Guendouzi instead of Torreira is 100% due to fitness, I believe. But who knows, either way I'm just hoping we see something different. If we lose, great, but we better put up a hell of a fight and hopefully even force them into changing their plan of attack.

Is it me...or is the speed at which we're passing completely different (faster) than last season?

                I love it.

Ugh. I don't think Sterling gets the shot off if that's Torreira he's trying to move by instead of Guendouzi.

Would have like to opened the season against someone other than the defending champs but I really am impressed the energy and pressing.

I saw a difference in how Arsenal played up to a big opponent (emphasis on "up") compared to the past but it's far from anything to get overly excited about. Today they were looser (or not as rigid, rather) and played with a better pace but the passing just didn't feel on the same page, especially in the final third. I hate to beat a dead horse but Ozil was involved in one legitimate scoring threat.

Luckily we get a chance to work out the kinks against a mid-table team next...oh.

I think we all expected to lose--which sucks, but it is what it is. As they were discussing in the broadcast, Pep and Co. are 3 years into their 'project' (as it was coined), whilest we are mere months.

The final third was abysmal today--which is usually our 'strong' point. It was odd to see how out of sync they were. We were only able to manage VERY few realistic chances on goal.

I thought the lineup was interesting. I also hate that I don't know how to spell the new signings, so I'll use numbers for now. Loved 29's energy, but obviously he's unpolished, and like it was mentioned before--likely (hopefully?) only started due to fitness (lackof) with 11. When 12 came on to play LB, I thought he was brilliant, for being a(nother) right footed LB for us. His movement and passion were outstanding. Xhaka's name was called like what, once? And that was for a YC (per usual). Ozil was quiet, and Aubameyang was sub par. Lacazette I thought was outstanding minus that missed volley and then the weird deal where Ederson practically gave us a goal, but he didn't go for the ball.

To make a long story short, yeah, 2-0 sucks. But I felt like they were in the game the entire time. Even down 2-0 they still had some fight. I like that, and had we been playing ANYONE else, I think we'd have found a goal--maybe 2. We'll see how they rebound next week at the Bridge...

I think this is related to how we were attempting to play the ball from the back. While the front was not clinical and that was just on them, there was an overall lack of link between the front and back and I think that will come with time, and many more games.

Also, I think Torreira will be the player of the season for us. He's vital in bridging the gap between defense and attack, and as much as he's been labeled a defensive midfielder, he's far more in the regista mold. He'll sit deep and dictate play, but also be there to help shield the defense. Loves a tackle, also, but I think we'll see the benefits from him in attack as much as defense.

The big thing for me that's different than last season is I'm excited about the next game. Last year I didn't care when we played again. This season I'm looking forward to seeing how we adapt, improve, etc.

The thing that surprised me the most didn't have anything to do with that. It was how bad the attackers were when you turned them over high up and when Ederson gifted the ball away. I'm really annoyed that match wasn't at least a draw because I felt they were there for the taking.

Sam Allardyce criticizing the way that Emery prepared the team might be the highlight of the weekend for me.

Also, JH, Lichtsteiner(12) is a right back by trade, but is obviously smart/skilled enough to play on the left with Kolasinac out, and Monreal out of favor. Guendouzi was fine, what I enjoyed most is that through all of his mistakes he didn't get discouraged though. After a few years of watching the body language of players change drastically after a mistake, it was nice to see him just get back in there.

Moving forward, with everyone in good health, I expect to see Ramsey/Torreira/Xhaka start in the midfield, with Ozil/Mkhi/Auba as the primary attackers. If Xhaka doesn't perform this year though, I hope Emery is quick to switch to Elneny/Guendouzi. That goes for any out-of-form player to start the season(also looking at you Mhki)

I knew it wouldn't take me long—I've already fallen in love with Lichtsteiner.

It has been too long since we had an absolute ******* in the squad. Plus, he's a solid defender who made an impact when he came on.

I was annoyed that on some analysis they showed him defending Mahrez when a shot went wide as an example of Mahrez taking it to us. Lichtsteiner got tight to him, gave him nowhere to go, and forced him to take a shot that was always going wide unless it had an absurd amount of curve on it. Even then, Cech had it covered.

Unless Monreal is completely fit, I'm more than alright with Lichtsteiner starting on the left. Hell, for games against the other big clubs, I'm fine with Lichtsteiner starting on the right when we need to defend first.
