1v1 Yedlin defended really well vs Mexico.

      Yeah I agree.

Not sure why Fox commenters kept saying he was struggling with Lozano. He wasn't struggling, the ref just called a foul every time Yedlin touched him or whenever he lost the ball and Yedlin was within 10 yards of him.

There's no argument for Yedlin being a great tackler. He can be butcher out there, and we saw that a few times on Sunday. It wasn't a matter of the ref's being out to get him (or the US). He's not out there to be a great defender anyways.

Normally before a match vs any other opponent in CONCACAF I'd agree but we went to Azteca to come out with a result. He blocked 3 or 4 low crosses in from that right side and made enough forays forward to keep 'em honest.

            GK?
Cameron--Brooks--Gonzalez? (maybe someone younger? by 2018 who knows)
            Yedlin--Nagbe--Bradley--Pulisic--Johnson
            Alitdore--Wood

Maybe? MF might need reinforcement. I like Nagbe, but...Acosta?

again, I hope we get a look at some younger guys in the next camps

Yeah I'd say Acosta for Nagbe.

We've got some really solid U21 center backs that could get a look as well, mostly Carter-Vickers and Palmer-Brown. Also not sure what Miazga's form is like these days but he was on his way to replacing Omar back when he first moved to Chelsea.

                re: Official USMNT/USWNT Thread

I think it makes the best use of Yedlin and Johnson, and in a way solves the years-long fullback question pretty well.

It also allows at least one of the attackers to be less focused on defensive responsibilities.

Thing is, it seems Pulisic works better up front for us...but moving him up would require sitting Altidore or Wood...and while I'm not a big Jozy supporter, he does provide a size question for defenses to solve, and a big post for another attacker to run around...I also want to believe Wood can be the kind of attacker we hoped Charlie Davies was going to be.

but could the team afford to play what would essentially be a 343 with Pulisic, Wood, and Altidore up top?

Pulisic plays well right behind the strikers too, which was sort of what I was imagining in a 3-5-2.

                  --------Wood - Jozy--------
                  -----------Pulisic------------
                  -----Bradley - Acosta-----
                  Johnson ------------- Yedlin
                  --------CB - CB - CB --------

                  Something like that.

Also, our previous fullback situation would probably have been fine if Jurgen ever bothered to call up Robbie Rogers for any of the like 4 consecutive seasons where he was the best American fullback.

This gold cup team isn't very good or Martinique is pretty good.

It's a little bit of both.

I'd like to see someone other than Guzan in goal for the final group match.

                          *cough* Sean Johnson.

I'm not as fussed about the result as a lot of people seem to be.

This Gold Cup team is basically a B and C team. Most of these players are playing for a bench spot in Russia.

Same. I actually thought Martinique was going to be a handful after watching the first matches of this group. But that 2nd goal for them was hilariously fluky. Really glad we answered that garbage within a minute.

I'll be happy with a finals appearance with this team. I'll be genuinely shocked if they win it.

Jordan Morris looks like a decent prospect.
