It must be tough for Lampard, though. You know he always wants a better showing when he goes up against his former club.

Re: 2020-2021 English Football Thread
I actually never knew this until I read it in The Mixer, or his traveling around Spain studying possession-based football.
His hire always seemed poorly timed. Yes, they had the transfer ban, but I'm surprised they didn't try and hire someone that you'd expect to essentially be a caretaker manager. Lampard with another season in the Championship, or even a few in the PL would give him the experience he needed for an inevitable offer by Chelsea.
I'm also not entirely convinced that the transfers this year have helped Lampard, but instead maybe hurt him by having to figure out how the hell to utilize these players? There seemed to be a bit, maybe a bit of the Man United strategy in terms of buying players because they could?
Yeah fitting in all of the new pieces this year would be a tough ask for even the best managers in the world. Then throw in the fact that a few of 'em were banged up when they got here and it was going to be tough when it came to personnel.
These past few weeks have sucked but this year is going to be a roller coaster for everyone. United went from dumpster to "this is OK actually" in a few weeks although bottling the CL group will help them refocus.Comment

I could work since Werner has never been your typical 9 striker and he not used to track backing this much since in his Leipzig days they would almost always have him on the counter.Comment

Re: 2020-2021 English Football Thread
Statement fro the Uruguayan Football Association defending Cavani and asking for an overturn of the ban. Just posting it for info.
A statement released on Monday said: “Firstly, we must condemn the arbitrary conduct of the English Football Association. Far from condemning racism, the English Football Association has itself committed a discriminatory act against the culture and way of life of the Uruguayan people.
“The sanction shows the English Football Association’s biased, dogmatic and ethnocentric vision that only allows a subjective interpretation to be made from its particular and excluding conclusion, however flawed it may be.
“Edinson Cavani has never committed any conduct that could be interpreted as racist. He merely used a common expression in Latin America to affectionately address a loved one or close friend.
“To sustain that the only way to obtain a valid interpretation in life is that which lies in the minds of the managers of the English Football Association is actually a true discriminatory act, which is completely reprehensible and against Uruguayan culture.
“We would therefore like to publicly defend Edinson Cavani’s impeccable character and of course our country’s culture.
“We are all against any kind of discrimination; however, unfortunately, through its sanction, the English Football Association expresses absolute ignorance and disdain for a multicultural vision of the world, respectful of its plurality, by erroneously, unilaterally and rigidly imposing its anti-racist rules, the basis of which we support but are obviously not realistically applicable to the case in question here.
“It has not just punished one person, but also our whole culture, our way of life, which is truly a discriminatory and racist act.”Yankees, Manchester United, Chicago Bears, New York RangersComment

Big Sam publicly stated he was for Brexit (even complaining the process to leave was taking too long), and now has publicly complained that it's making signing players this window more difficult than ever.
****ing dinosaur.
The league is not more entertaining with him in it—it's collectively dumber.Comment

Re: 2020-2021 English Football Thread
He's still recovering from his achilles injury and unfortunately had a lot of little niggles, mainly hamstring injuries this year. Every time he has a good run of matches he gets hurt. Still only 19 though so his time will come.
Yeah I think Rodgers has come a long way since his Liverpool days where he was kind of wide open although in fairness to him with that squad he had to go all out attack. Organization, patterns, man management, plays youth... He would fit all of the notches for Chelsea and if we called he'd come.

Imo Hasenhuttl should be the target if they really are calling it with Lamps, but it will probably be Tuchel or Allegri.
I'll always love Lampard for sure, but I can recognize he may be in over his head here. I guess tbf we thought that about Ole and they are doing alright atm.Comment

Re: 2020-2021 English Football Thread
There's also a very, very big difference between them and that seems to be humility. I get it, Lampard's confidence stems from what he achieved as a player, but it's shocking how confident he seems and...arrogant? Nearly each time I've seen him speak to the media he's come off like someone who has won the league several times as a manager, not as a player.
Does that matter? Perhaps not, but Ole seems like someone willing to try new things and be flexible. Lampard seems to have a rigidness about him.
I'm definitely not saying Chelsea should sack Lampard—I'm just saying I expect it to happen. That leopard is not going to change its spots—and for good reason, what they do works.Comment

Re: 2020-2021 English Football Thread
So what happened to Rebecca Lowe and the two Robbies? I haven't been watching games on NBCSN that much recently (been using the replay option on Peacock), but the few times I have it is this Ben Stein sounding dude and some one else I don't recognize. And I really can't stand listening to the Ben Stein dude.

I was worried they left for another network and we were stuck with these two now.
