Re: 2020-2021 English Football Thread
To me it's all about discussing what happened in a match versus why it happened, because discussing what happened is easy and anyone can do it. Same reason I hate the idea of "the only thing that matters is the scoreboard durrr" because it essentially dismisses nuance and discussion about why and how and instead only focuses on what.
It's why certain podcasts and pundits, to me, are pointless. They're nothing but match reports discussing what happened and what people think of it, instead of discussing why things happened, how they happened, etc.
One of the reasons I enjoy The Athletic—they don't do match reports, but instead dive further in-depth. Also why I listen to certain podcasts over others and why essentially all post-match punditry is garbage.
As for MLB, yes. Although, my viewing break from the EPL especially has basically been watching baseball and even their replays are refreshing compared to VAR.

Super League coming up again, this time with UEFA and several league FAs dunking on it publicly.
Interesting to see where this leads, I hope it gets quashed once and for all.Comment

I do love UEFA and the FA's pearl clutching over it, like every choice they've made in the past 20 years hasn't led to this, or like if they weren't in on the money part of it they wouldn't support it.
No good guys in the fight, and the only people who lose are the fans, feels like sports in a nutshells these days, money over everything.Support Local Sports

That's the first goal Southampton have conceded in this year's FA cup. 4 straight clean sheets going into the semi final.Comment

It’s gotta be fake just based on Arsenal being mentioned as a “top club”

Yeah, this is going far beyond posturing or trying to get more of their demands met.
This is insanity.
As for Arsenal, it should surprise absolutely no one that reportedly Stan Kroenke has been not only a huge supporter of this but has been involved behind the scenes.
He’s refused to make his club competitive from a sporting standpoint and after seeing how that has financially affected him he’s decided to do what’s best for him.Last edited by Krebstar; 04-18-2021, 07:56 PM.Comment

Re: 2020-2021 English Football Thread
So basically all these teams are starting their own Champions League, with guaranteed spots every year, thereby guaranteeing a certain level of financial (and thereby competitive) security forever. And the domestic leagues are saying they will ban these teams from their competions, and UEFA has said they will ban all players participating in this from international competition. Among other stuff. Pretty much? Sounds like a meltdown all around.Comment

Anyway, this is hole thing sucks quite a lot. I’m personally with Neville’s plan of fining clubs and deducting points.Comment

Re: 2020-2021 English Football Thread
There's so much backlash there's no way this is ever going to happen. You've got the leaders of both France and England criticizing the move and now DAZN which had been rumoured to be behind the TV money denying involvement. I think it's just these clubs way of trying to getting a better Champions League deal.
Not to mention FIFA saying players who participate won't be able to play for their countries.
But this is just another reason to hate the big clubs in Europe.Comment
