    Re: The Transfer Thread

I'm excited. The Tomori transfer from Chelsea to Milan is finally permanent! Woo!! Since he was put in the starting 11 over Romagnoli with Kjaer its been magnificent.

Now, I'm hoping Milan goes for a good winger and a quality forward so we don't live and die with Ibra's health up front, plus we need the Tonali and Diaz deals to turn into permanent transfers.

I wouldn’t mind it but I wouldn’t say it should be a massive priority. I do think they can set their price though better this transfer window than last summers window. Their center backs need a massive upgrade. They also need an outright real striker. Cavani has been great but he’s not in a future plan. They also need replacements for the guys like Matic, a bit more overall depth, and have to figure out a real plan for Pogba instead of every other week flopping stay or go ideas. If they are going to play him in a 6 role then let him leave because it’s not what suits his skills best. I’d rather have a workhorse there that is a box to box player.

It’s only a year later than they would’ve liked, but United seem to have their man.

Looks like Tottenham seal a deal for ~25mil for Bryan Gil from Sevilla with Lamela going the other way.

Looks like Varane to United is also done. If they get a CDM and maybe a manager they’re going to be serious title contenders.

I'm beyond excited to hear ex-United players on Sky cry for money to be spent and for the manager to be properly backed after the results are less than expected.

I mean I guess? I don’t think this means we are level with city, but the gap narrows. Also Liverpool and Chelsea improving/being more healthy helps everyone. The closer the gap in the top 4, the better chance for teams to nick a few points here and there from the champions and keep everyone in the running.

My point is that no matter who United brings in, there are many who will seemingly go out of their way to not criticize the manager. By many, I mean his former teammates. I'm just having a go at their the mental gymnastics they perform on a weekly basis.

As for the gap, I think all United is missing is an elite manager to be absolutely frightening. When you compare the squads + managers, it's the manager that sticks out like a sore thumb.

                    Pep...Klopp...Tuchel...Ole?

I’m not a fan of Ole per say, but 2 of those 3 finished behind Ole last season so there is that too.

On Tuchel: When he took over on January 26, Man United were in 2nd on 40 points, Chelsea were in 10th on 29 points.

Each team played 19 matches after he took over—38 points for Chelsea, 34 points for United. In that time United did score more goals (12 more), but Chelsea had a better: goals allowed record, xG, xGA, and xPTS.

Only looking at the final standings to judge how Tuchel did in England compared to how Ole has done isn't fair.

On Klopp: Won 2 Bundesliga titles, 1 DFB Pokal, 1 Champions League (three finals), and 1 Premier League. Two seasons ago, in Ole's first full season, he finished 31 points above Ole.

Ole has won 2 Norwegian league titles, and 1 domestic cup. He's done well at United, but I don't think he's the level of manager to get them to where they SHOULD be, no matter what they do to their squad.

I hope they keep Ole for as long as possible.

Not to mention Tuchel took over a team that was under-performing but still sitting mid table and won the champions league with them so league position doesn’t even matter at that point. Klopp also had a squad that got decimated with injuries and still managed to finish within two wins of United.

It’s a good offseason for them but it has that 2014 feeling of them just signing big names and seeing what happens. Sancho is great but who is he replacing and what happens with them? Having depth is great until you’re displacing somebody who is young and established in the team because there’s no justification for it.

United also had injuries too as did nearly everyone last year minus City. Of course not to the extent of Liverpool’s defense but they’re signings are both big names AND fill gaping holes.

                            Varane >>> Lindeloff
                            Sancho >>> Martial/James

For me, United is a CDM away from challenging for the title.

I personally think this year is going to be a clusterf*** of injuries related to overexertion and COVID cases. Depth again is going be critical.

For me Ole is a distant 4th when compared to those other guys but those other guys just happen to be three of the best, if not the best managers in the world right now.

Also if we’re being honest…Chelsea isn’t going to contend unless we sign either Lukaku or Halaand. We’re not clinical enough in front of goal to challenge City and Pool over the course of 38 matches.

You guys should sign Ings (34). Fourth highest scorer over the last two season, behind Kane (41), Salah (41) and Vardy (38).

I rate Ings but I don’t think he fits the profile Tuchel likes or is looking for. Our defensive system starts from the top with front-line pressure and Ings doesn’t have those legs anymore.

If we’re going to spend on a striker it has to be a huge splash and someone that offers a huge upgrade over Werner and/or Tammy. No more older stop gaps for us please.
