I'm using a set King cooked up that's informed by what Skins started in this thread. To keep from derailing Skins's thread, you might want to PM King.

Skins, thanks again for the input. I wish I'd committed to this months ago like you did, lol.

I'm thinking about trying this whole ootb thing. I blow them away on ap but get my *** kicked on am. Is ootb really better sim wise?

I'm getting great stats in my solo offline CFM.

OOTB with some slight adjustments to penalty and game play sliders (and I mean slight) does deliver a more sim experience, for my tastes, than the patched game.

CPU offensive and defensive AI on All Pro is significantly more challenging pre-patch than post-patch. King and I are running tests with very different teams in terms of overall talent, and it's looking like the game is capable of providing a challenge week in and week out, provided your team doesn't totally outclass the opponent talent-wise.

What you'll notice most immediately is the QB accuracy for both sides. The CPU QB misses more passes and the CPU pass D is much more aggressive and much less forgiving--even in man coverage.

Good luck!

Cpu missing passes isn't my problem. I want them to complete more lol. My defense is 83 ovr all but it plays like they're 95 ovr. The cpu qb is just terrible every game. I beat the falcons 28-3 yesterday. Matt Ryan missed his first 8 , yes 8 passes. Not because they were dropped or knocked out, just completely missed. I need more of a challenge from the cpu offense. I'm currently using a&s all pro sliders.

The CPU is much more competitive and intelligent, even on AP, with OOTB settings.

Basically, this year, they made a sim game straight out of the gate and they made the CPU lethal on AP. They built HUM and CPU QBs to miss throws, receivers to drop balls sometimes, injuries to be a significant part of the game, and the overall AI to adapt to what you do--on All Pro at near default sliders.

I strongly believe that what happened is this: people complained that the game was hard, and they dialed back all the things that made the game competitive on AP out of the box. They made CPU QBs too accurate; WR/TE too reliable, especially in traffic; coverage too loose to be effective, and the CPU offensive and defensive AI generally less intelligent and responsive. And I think most of these changes were pandering to the MUT/tournament crowd.

I'm now in a position to be able to play this game till fall, but I'm also worried that next year, they'll make the game less sim OOTB in order to "correct" for this year's experience, where the development team got dragged for basically making a good football game.

For the skeptics out there, if you haven't given this a go, please do!
I agree with Everything you said 100%. Right down to my worry that they will not put the game ootb in 18, as they did this year.

I'll take it a step farther and say this is right there with the best sports video games I have Ever played. Without patches of course. It's seriously is a sim experience.

Edit: Finishing up my current season with patched version. While playing very good, with highly adjusted sliders. It's not ootb I'll be back here Asap!

also add the CPU/Coach of the team I'm facing, so I can adjust the Autosubs(HB, DT, DE, etc), Schemes, depth charts, and Playbooks. Remember to move either your #1 CB to #2 or the CPU's #1 WR to #2. I just do my CB's, it's easier.

So it's like 32 team control but I'm just doing it for the teams I'm facing, week to week. I retire them after or before playing, it doesn't matter when, the autosubs, schemes, and Playbooks still stick.

And I also edit QB traits.
So it's not really default settings or sliders.
Above are the suggested penalty sliders, along with the only other changes made to sliders (only ints). Pretty much default. And it plays great.

Ya I saw what he has but that doesn't look like there'd be very many penalties. I like to see a lot like in the real nfl
