I do think that is where we are losing out, especially with football.

I would like to see standalone products instead of a bundle.

Release an arcade/online game every year to satisfy the license
Make a robust franchise/GM game every few years
Make a deep dive, cutting edge coaching/X's and O's game

Given the outrageous popularity of the NFL, the market would support all 3, released with the appropriate development windows.

The yearly release cycle holds the entire product back.

.. but, as you said, jsut one mans opinion

It's unfortunate for all sports games that they have to be on a one year cycle.

It would be ideal to have a three year cycle with roster updates in between.

I'm not going to argue with anyone here in this thread who has voiced an alternative opinion. We all know many of you don't like Madden and/or erroneously blame EA for the exclusivity (that's on the NFL).

I just will simply say that personally I am very happy that EA has finally figured out the on-field gameplay. That's where it all starts.

The game plays great, is a ton of fun and I'm loving it this year. Great job EA!
And where exactly have they figured out the on-field gameplay?

Well let's see, the Free-form passing is fantastic, it allows you to place the ball where you want, or at least try to depending upon the players ratings. The rushing game is finally about perfect where you see better blocking and holes opening up. The lineplay finally has gotten rid of suction.

Mainly, the reason gameplay is now the best it's ever been, Madden has figured out how to make the game a lot more unpredictable, or "organic" as I like to say. That simply means that unlike previous Maddens a user doesn't know how a play is going to play out because it typically has played out a certain way in the past.

Just an overall impression though, to me the gameplay harkens back to the PS2 era when it was actually, really unpredictable and fun! The on the field gameplay really is a huge step up, with the added animations, better physics and unpredictability

EA has nailed the gameplay and now can start to focus on the other aspects we want such as weather, improved special teams, playbooks, sliders, etc.

Next year is going to be even better than this year too with EA CFB coming out too

Re: Kudos to EA: Madden NFL 24 sets new sales records!

Skipping 24 after playing 2 games of the beta. Got Madden 23 used a month ago for $15 and that’s been collecting dust. The game is only good when you compare to past Maddens and you can’t compare it to much else because there hasn’t been another NFL option for almost 20 years.

Definitely not excited that it bodes well to keep it the only simulation game. A little competition and also using some of that license money on development would probably do this game wonders

I played The Show 23, but I actually don't need to buy it every year because it's a good product and I'm a casual baseball fan. I can play The Show 21 and be perfectly fine because there's not a lot of flaws with base game

No significant franchise improvements over an entire console gen, they REMOVED a popular game mode (season) and REMOVED probably THE singe best thing in sports gaming history; year-to-year roster and franchise ports.

Great game between the lines, but lets not pretend its the second coming.
They both have great foundations imo, it's a consistent product. Have there been any terrible The Show or 2K games compared to Madden lol. There have been legit terrible Madden games especially recently check the ratings and user scores. If some people are having fun with Madden 23/24 good for them. But I been playing Madden since 92'. We have examples of competent simulation football games from the PS2 era. We shouldn't have to settle for EA's laziness and the only reason their getting away with it, is because they have a monopoly.

Re: Kudos to EA: Madden NFL 24 sets new sales records!

100% agree about this guy being a plant.....or just a total simpleton in terms of gameplay expectations

The game is mediocre at best....and to be honest, the actual onfield AI, play calling and depth of the gameplay engine to determine organic results and variety hasnt really evolved since Madden 10. This game should have so much more subtle on the field variety of dynamic play and nuances that really individualize players and their specific ratings to make them actually mean something other than just their numeric values.......

As an example. load up NHL 2K8 and see how each of the idividual player attributes actually makes a difference in how the players perform in their respective positions which leads to a much more organic game experience on the field and under the hood

Fast Foward Madden 10 to Madden 24 and you see exactly the same results occur on the field right down to the exact timing of when position players will step in and make picks, swat balls, come across the entire field and swat balls down, hit RBs on outside sweeps, ect etc......its like cookie cutter results

Why would anyone celebrate them getting the exclusive rights again?
