It's so funny how Tiburon's approach to designing this game has people thinking things are so hard to implement and they haven't been done before. The game has not been built for realism so they have to make these ridiculous excuses. Nothing they implement will ever be realistic because that has never been their thought process.

As a realistic NFL game, Madden is a joke. As a pick up and play to kill some time and get an NFL fix, it's decent/good. If the latter is what you want, continue to buy Madden and enjoy it. If you want more give it up, because you will NEVER get it. I don't care how many interviews and write ups these guys do, it will never happen.

I sensed he was against having penalties as an option.

Holding used to be called on a consistent basis up to last year if you put the slider at 53 and above. Not this year.

Same with facemask, roughing the QB and clipping.

I'd just like to see them more on a consistent basis throughout the game.

Having 0 or 1 penalty called a game is pretty extreme on the other end and I have had a lot of those games this year.

So, meet the gamers halway, wouldn't you agree?

Was going to write my thoughts but Sage, you basically wrote exactly what I was going to write I am sure they are going to add penalties next year, but just like EVERYTHING they "add", it's either broken or only works 50% of the time. The foundation of madden is a joke. The player movement is unbelevably bad, warping, shifting, clipping. The AI is beyond atrocious, and all of the basics for any sports game are poorly implemented. I have absolutely ZERO faith that penalties will work at all like they should and I am 100% certain that something else will be completely broken by whatever spaghetti code they add next.

The new generation of gamers who never had the luxury of playing all of the games that were so much better than madden don't know any better. So you can brainwash them into believing that everything is so hard to do and "can't" be done. Tiburon is a sorry studio. They are everything you wouldn't want in a software developer on your team. There is always some reason why something "can't" be done. We get it though, it's too hard for them. It doesn't matter what they say, because the product speaks volumes. The best thing to do is to move on from pushing for madden improvement. You either accept it for what it is as the mediocre, buggy, sloppy arcade game of football, or you play something else. Maybe Montana will amount to something. It sounds promising, but we don't even know what platform it will be on. It is what it is and it's not ever changing.

EDIT: I had to edit this because I forgot to say that first, I agree with much of what you are saying about tying penalties to something to make them more or less frequent for that game. A veteran QB with a great hard count, a physical CB, etc. But there should still be an element of randomness to the penalties.

ORIGINAL POST:
Yeah, like an offensive lineman forgets the snap count. That's only tied to the offensive lineman, well, forgetting the snap count. Random doesn't always mean nonsensical. Now I could see this tied into an awareness rating, but even the smartest of o-lineman can forget the snap count and jump off sides.

If what some say is true and that the reason why penalties(and sliders but whatever) don't work is because the majority that buy the game are arcade players, then why are they even in the game...even worse when they don't even work and haven't for years?

Seems to me that they can't make a game that does what they claim. Every year they hype sim features, but unfortunately the game just isn't where it should be.

Setting facemask to 53 or higher, and you'll see it called a bunch, but you can max out pass interference and still not see it called. To me, that isn't catering to arcade players, it's ea's inability to make their own sliders work.

Game needs a Tourney mode, this is where Penalties, Injuries, botched snaps and so on are scarce to None. Allowing the Players to play the game without having "real" Football get in the way.

CFM, Offline & Online get the realism that is NFL Football!

I could be wrong, but I would imagine that most(not all) online players, who aren't playing a multi-player online CFM, don't want realism either. The habitual use of exploits to try to win is an indicator of that to me.

Do this today: Instead of $%*#!@& on a game you're not going to play or movie you're not going to watch, say something good about a piece of media you're excited about.

Do the same thing tomorrow. And the next. Now do it forever.
