It makes sure the player is not placed into the starting lineup for automatic rotation adjustments. It's supposed to fix 6th man problems we've seen in the past with, for example, Ginobili always being set as the starter because he had a higher overall rating than the real-life starter.

Its sort of nice that it's there, though to me its not a great solution even with the (1 season) option. If a 6th man gets traded mid season, he could become the starter for his next team, making that setting incorrect. This scenario happened in the real league just last year to JR Smith.

Didn't JR Smith only start for the Cavs because Shumpert was hurt? They didn't have any other shooting guards-- I think their only option would have been James Jones, but he'd get abused by opposing two guards.

Anybody else notice Hot Zones are still hidden from being able to edit them? They added the tendencies for the zones on the floor, which is nice, but still left out being able to edit how effective that player is in those zones.

It doesn't change what I said. Using 2k16's method in the same scenario, Dellavadova (a PG/SG) would have become the starter unless he also had the Non-starter setting enabled.

It's not a foolproof way of handling the problem.

Just saying, in real life, as long as a team has a halfway-viable option at whatever position the sixth man plays, they'll throw that guy in the starting lineup and have the sixth man come off the bench.

A team literally running out of players at a certain position is extremely rare, and that's really the only time a real-life team will start a sixth man (either that, or the only player they have to start at that position is absolutely horrible).

At the same time. Even now after Shump's 3 month wrist injury that just happened Cleveland is talking about starting Joe Harris. Some guys are career sixth men. Regardless of squad.

Jamaal Crawford for example is a sixth man regardless of his squad because his defense is that atrocious and his offense is so much more deadly (dare I say the real life version of cheesing) against a 2nd unit.

Mostly score first pg's and shooting guards will probably sit the bench wherever they are.

That said, for some guys, you have to set it to 1 season force non-starter, because like James Harden from OKC to Houston shows it's not a 100% rule. A 6th man - non defending 2 guard doesn't always remain that way his entire career..

If Ginobili had been traded mid-season a few years ago to almost any other team in the league, he would have been the starter. A 6th man for one team is not necessarily a 6th man for every team, that's all I'm saying.

I wonder if that could happen in 2K16 even with the Non-Starter option. I guess that was sonicmage's point.
