1979-80 NBA Season Roster: Work in Progress

I would recommend going backwards versus forward. The Season of the NBA/ABA merger would be a fabulous choice.

The problem with going backward - and I'm tempted - is that statistics become harder and harder to find the further back you go. There's no three pointers before 79-80, so I'd have to just guess at 3-pt ability, and before 77-78 they weren't keeping track of turnovers (which would completely bork my stats in a number of areas).

So the earliest I'd go would be 77-78, but even that would be frustrating without the 3 pointers.

I think 3 pointer% could be "guesstimated" by taking a percentage of players FG %? Higher % for guards, less for forwards and even less for centers? Maybe guards 65% of their FG%, forwards 50% and centers 25%? I have no idea about turnovers? Is there an option to turn off 3 pointers when setting up custom season? Personally I'd still prefer the 76-77 season in spite of the limitations you pointed out.

I did see in basketball-reference that for the 76-77 season they do give total team turnovers for the year. You could guesstimate turnovers using that number and players minutes per game? Example 240 min/gm player A plays 40 min/gm... that's 16.7% of total minutes team averages 20 TO/gm 16.7% of that is 3.4 so player A averages 3.4 TO/gm

For the ABA teams that joined the NBA...you could use the players prior year for them in the ABA.

I think u should go forward because of those stat problems, also teams form the 1980 expansion would be on it so more will be there
