Re: JB's 2k19 (PS4) Fictional Draft Classes

February Notes:

Texas has had an up and down year, however they’re a really young team. Most of the minutes in the starting line-up were given to Freshman and Sophomores. The only upperclassman to see any regular playing time was junior C Alexander Jones Jr. He had a solid year for the Longhorns, and finished 8th in the nation in rebounds. The biggest news of the year for Texas was back in early November when the #1 recruit in the nation PF Kahlil Poythress committed to joining them.

Villanova is the new #1 ranked team in the nation and are almost lock to secure a #1 seed for the NCAA tournament. Senior SG Dustin O’Keady is a finalist for Player of the Year. He finished the season #1 in 3pt%, 3 pointers made; and was 6th in the nation in scoring at 19.8 points per game.

All 3 of Duke’s freshman have decided to enter the draft, so the current run of one-and-done players continue for the Blue Devils. We’re all curious to see how they play in the conference and NCAA tournament. FR SG Vance Dailey’s move to the bench has been mostly a success for the team, and he provides a spark for them when he enters the game. Freshman center Niles Thomas finished the season averaging 2.7 block per game, good for 3rd in the nation, and PF Justin Denmon almost averaged double digit rebounds (9.9) good for 9th in the nation.

The rough year continues for the UNC freshman. Heading into the conference tournaments both SF Everson Blackwell and PG Luke Hudson have seen their minutes decrease.

International News: Augustine Rojo, the 26 year old SF from Spain who’s had a few good year’s recently, is having his best year by far this year and should now be on everyone’s draft board. He’s already 26 years old so his ceiling is not very high, but he should be able to contribute right away in the right situation. Scouts I’ve spoken with aren’t sure where to rank him on their draft boards. I’ve heard a few scouts say he’s a potential lottery pick because of his current ability to play right away, while other scouts have him ranked at the end of the 1st round or early 2nd because he might not get any better than he is right now.

Re: JB's 2k19 (PS4) Fictional Draft Classes

Conference Tournaments Continued:

Mountain West
Finals

UNLV wins the tournament in a surprising rout of Nevada 94-68. It was just one of those games where everything goes right for one team, and on the other side of the floor, everything seems to go wrong. UNLV’s JJ Walker scored a game high 31 points, and Freshman Chris Bridges added 18 points. Nevada’s Tamir Vaughn had 17 points and 8 rebounds.

Mountain West Tournament MVP – JJ Walker, SG - UNLV

PAC 12
Semi-Finals
UCLA defeats Utah 80-63. With freshman PG Donovan Lockett out due to a sore wrist, UCLA went back to a more traditional lineup and inserted SG Jayshaun Parks back into the starting squad. The move paid off, Parks scored a game high 29 points, he hits a few 3’s and got to the basket quite regularly showing off his ability to get to the rim and finish in traffic. PG Noah Van Exel had 8 points and 11 assists. For Utah, center Darius Brockman led the team with 16 points and 9 boards.

Semi-Finals

Arizona knocked off Oregon in the other semi-finals game 77-65. The Wildcats freshman PG Corey Appling was unstoppable, posting a career high in points (41) while taking advantage of a very poor defensive effort from the Ducks. Oregon SF Curtis Dantley had 15 points and 5 rebounds in the loss.

Finals
UCLA and Arizona put on a very entertaining game, with the highlight being the back and forth between Arizona PG Corey Appling and UCLA SG Jayshaun Parks. With just under 10 minutes to play in the 2nd half with the score tied, Parks and Appling traded shots back and forth. Appling would hit a 3, and then Parks would go down and drain a 3. Appling would drive to the hoop and score, Parks would follow suit and make a layup. Finally on the 5th possession of the back and forth Appling hit a highly contested mid-range shot, and Parks went down and missed a 3…which led to some trash talking by Appling. In the end Arizona edged out UCLA 84-79. Appling scored 34 points and had 5 assists. Jayshaun Parks scored 26 points for UCLA.

PAC 12 Tournament MVP – Corey Appling, PG - Arizona

SEC
Semi-Finals
Kentucky beats Missouri 79-71 behind a big game from freshman SF Randall Hackett. Hackett scored 26 points and had 4 steals. He had 12 of his points in the final 8 minutes of the game. Fr. PG Juwan Richardson had 11 points and 8 assists. For Missouri, Fr. PF Roscoe Boss score 14 points and hauled in 12 rebounds in the loss.

Semi-Finals
Florida coasts by Auburn 84-66. Fr. SF Clarence Shaw scored 17 points for the Gators while Leroy Williams-King was unstoppable “in the zone,” offensively. He scored 31 points, some inside, some mid-rage, a couple 3’s. He had everything working offensively tonight. Auburn So. Cetner Jason Hardy had 16 points, 9 rebounds and 2 blocked shots in the losing effort.

Finals
Florida’s Leroy Williams-King was a nightmare matchup for Kentucky, as nobody they put on him was able to shut him down. Williams-King has been a quite the hot streak during the conference tournament, and tonight he propelled the Gators to an 82-77 victory. He scored a game high 28 points and also had 8 rebounds. Kentucky’s Fr. SF Randall Hackett played well, scoring 17 points and had 3 steals, PG Juwan Richardson had a bad shooting night (3-11), but did help in other ways (8 assists). So. SF Isaac Anthony contributed 16 points.

SEC Conference Tournament MVP – Leroy Williams-King, PF – Florida

WCC
Semi-Finals
Gonzaga knocks off UOP 80-63. Sr. PG Aaron Poole had 22 points and 7 assists; PF Adam Sroka added 21 points and had 8 rebounds. UOP was led by Jr. SG Aiden Pittman who scored 19 points in the loss.

Semi-Finals
St. Mary’s beats BYU 74-64 to advance to the WCC conference finals. SG Anthony Huffman had 22 points and SF Eric Sasser scored 16 points in the victory.

Finals
Gonzaga wins the WCC conference tournament with a dominant win over St. Mary’s 82-61. The game was close going into the half (37-31), but Gonzaga came out of the halftime break on a 12-0 run led by PG Aaron Poole who hit a couple 3’s and assisted on a nice back-door cut alley-oop to Fr. SF Joe Bellamy. St. Mary’s was never able to close the gap despite the good game put together by So. SF Eric Sasser who had 17 points, 7 rebounds and 2 steals.

WCC Conference Tournament MVP – Aaron Poole, PG - Gonzaga
