Thank you for changing the tone, but just to be clear, I'm not talking about extremes, the min-max monstrosities as you said. I don't need to exceed the caps, I don't need nor want any 99's nor would I ignore anything.

The cap system has clearly been refined this year to more realistically adjust as you alter you height and wingspan and hopefully weight. Where as last year it was simply each height within a position changed a couple attribute caps.

The bucket system.however is just an uneccesary limitation on individuality. As I said 10 is better than 6 and the cap system is more sophisticated so it's all a step forward. Again, no problem with the cap system in light of the understanding that eSports is the focus. In an ideal world, offline and online could be separated, but that's not what we have.

If next year there's a couple more buckets and speed, quickness, blocks, steals, passing and ball handling are each respectively seperated, then that'll be a huge improvement as well.

Re: Ten buckets fam!

Looks like you start with 20 upgrades automatically from the trailer.

2 players setting the screen. 1 hides behind them and fires up the shots. You know that will happen, especially after a couple of patches relaxing the shooting.

Maybe 1 sharpshooter, 1 shot creator, and 1 rebounding center.

Or 1 sharpshooter, 1 slasher, and 1 defending center.
or 1 sharpshooter, 1 point forward, and 1 rebounding center
or 2 point forwards, and 1 post up center
or 1 shot creator, 1 slasher, and 1 defending center
or 1 point forward, 1 slasher, and 1 sharpshooter

or what my crew currently runs: 1 play maker, 1 sharpshooter, and 1 defending center.

Until we actually get the game we won't know if there are "money" builds. Off just that trailer the options look good, though.

Re: Ten buckets fam!

This was from the wishlist thread. I wished they would have went with something similar. If they insist on buckets, limiting your strengths to a certain play style would help create some individuality (We will see if archetypes actually achieves this though)

Im talking your online character So even if the demigod glitch returns it would be hard capped off from making a difference (offline should have no limits)(however I advocate for no skill buckets)

I asked for this last year before 2K16 also, and it seemed like they semi-implemented it

The 3 skill buckets should be:

Outside Offense (midrange-3point range) (with ball), Inside Offense (from the post up to the elbow)(offense with ball), Defense (and offense without ball) should be the 3 Main categories. Stat rate depends on height, weight, position. Certain badges should be hard locked to certain postions (Centers, P. Fowards shouldnt be able to have Dead Eye, Killer Crossover. PGs SGs shouldnt be able to get Tenacious Rebound, and Posterizer)

At the creation point you have to choose to be great in one thing, good in one, and average in the last.

The great category attributes can be raised to 90-95 (again depend on H,W,P)

The good category attributes can be raised to 80-89 (again depend on H,W,P)

The Average category attributes can be raised to 70-79 (again depend on H,W,P)

This way you cant have a All Around Beast (In the My Park, Rec modes), and it forces team roles, cooperation.

Lets say you choose Great for defense (offense with out ball) but Average for outside offense, and your team has the ball:

You will have a player that can move around the court fast, get in position faster, have the hands to catch flashy passes (deep passes), set great picks, etc, however with the ball in their hands, they are not ideal to bring the ball up the court, they are slower when dribbling because their ball handling is low, and the 3 point shot is sub-par, etc.
Of course nothing can stop the masses from trying to make a 3pt specialist, but trying to max out the outside shooting would cause you other skill sets to suffer using this model. It does seem like they took the badges being cap to certain positions into consideration, but to what extent remains to be seen

Passing and dribbling shouldn't be lumped together either. You can be a great passer while having average handles and vice versa. And there are so many different aspects on defense that shouldn't go hand in hand either, like playing passing lanes vs shot blocking.
I understand your point, but if you let off turbo, won't you layup instead of dunk?

Yes, but that also means you can't do a layup at full speed. And it leaves the door open to getting sucked into defensive bumping animations that wouldn't happen otherwise.

That's a good thing... We don't need people making slashers with jump shots. It's all about balance this year.
