Lyon (AP) - Borussia Monchengladbach overcame some awful weather to escape from France with a 1-nil victory over Olympique Lyonnais on MatchDay 2 of the 2015-16 Champions League. Josip Drmic scored the loan goal, putting away his own rebound in the 60th minute as Monchengladbach remains atop their Group.

Played in a driving cold rain, both teams kept the ball mainly in the midfield with few great scoring chances. OL managed 10 shots, holding Monchengladbach to just seven. Yann Sommer made seven saves to earn Man of the Match honors once again. He has been far and away Borussia Monchengladbach's best player in the first month of the 2015-16 season.

These teams will meet again on December 8th at Borussia Park in the final Group Stage match.

Stindl Out

Monchengladbach (AP) - Lars Stindl left Monchengladbach's Champions League match in the 14th minute after he slipped on the wet surface and fell on his left shoulder. It is being reported that he dislocated the shoulder and will miss up to eight weeks. Stindl's spot in the lineup has yet to be determined but youngster Joaquin Correa may take over his role.

10/3/15
Monchengladbach, North-Rhein-Westphalia (AP) - Borussia Monchengladbach returned to Bundesliga action on Saturday evening and left with a 2-nil victory over VfL Wolfsburg at a rainy Borussia Park. Thorgan Hazard scored both Monchengladbach goals, both on penalty kicks.

Hazard scored the first in the 18th minute after Josip Drmic was taken down in the box. No card was given in the play. Later in the half, Drmic drew a yellow card on a very questionable foul. The questionable calls continued after halftime as Tony Jantschke was removed from the game, with a red card, after a slide tackle in which he clearly hit the ball first.

Just six minutes later, Thorgan Hazard was pulled down from behind in the box and awarded a penalty, but once again no card. Hazard converted the penalty to make it 2-nil.

Patrick Herrmann would pick up a yellow card in the 60th minute, the third card against Monchengladbach in the very physical match.

"I cannot understand how only our players received cards," said Lothar Matthaus afterwards. "Both teams were physical and we took a couple of very hard fouls, yet Wolsburg escaped with no cards." There were 11 fouls in the match, seven against Monchengladbach and four against Wolfsburg.

As per usual, Yann Sommer was the Man of the Match, making four saves and earning his third clean sheet on the Bundesliga campaign.

Borussia Monchengladbach (3-3-2) moved up into the top six with the win. VfL Wolfsburg (5-0-3) slips to fourth. Up next for Monchengladbach, after a two week International break, is a road match in Frankfurt against Eintracht Frankfurt (2-2-4), who currently sits in 15th spot.

Two more big wins, the away victory over Lyon was especially impressive due to the way you muted their high power attack(for a French club)

10/17/15
Frankfurt, Hesse (AP) - Borussia Monchengladbach gained a road point on Saturday evening with a 1-1 draw at Commerzbank-Arena against Eintracht Frankfurt. The win keeps Gladbach in the top six in the Bundesliga.

Marc Stendera opened the scoring on Eintracht Frankfurt's first shot of the match in the 24th minute. Borussia Monchengladbach came out flying and had constant pressure the first 20 minutes, but could not beat Heinz Lindner. Stendera's strike took some wind out of their sails and evened the match up, possession-wise.

In the 37th minute, Thorgan Hazard moved the ball into the box from the left corner and passed it to an unmarked Branimir Hrgota inside the six yard box. He almost blew it, knocking it off the underside of the crossbar, but it landed just inside the goal line to tie the match at 1-1.

It would remain that way, but each team had a couple of great chances. Hrgota knocked one off the woodwork in the 87th minute. Frankfurt's Alexander Meier intercepted a pass from Yann Sommer and rocketed a shot just over the bar in the 90th minute that likely would have won the match.

Monchengladbach will return to Champions League competition on Wednesday as they host Belgian side KAA Gent in a battle for first in Group G. Their next Bundesliga match will be next Saturday as they host Schalke 04.

10/21/2015
Monchengladbach, North-Rhein-Westphalia (AP) - Despite playing their most complete match of the 2015-16 campaign, Borussia Monchengladbach had to settle for a 1-1 home draw in Champions League action against Belgian side KAA Gent. Renato Neto answered an Havard Nordtveit goal, both in the final half hour, to send the teams away with a draw.

Borussia Monchengladbach outshot Gent 19-5, including getting 12 on target. KAA Gent's keeper, Matz Sels, was the Man of the Match, stopping ten shots and allowing KAA Gent to earn points in all three of their Champions League ties.

Grumblings from the Havard Nordtveirt camp recently over playing time, may have been warranted. He had six shots on goal and scored the lone Gladbach goal. His play may warrant some additional playing time from manager Luthar Matthaus.

Monchengladbach returns to Bundesliga action on Saturday afternoon as they face FC Schalke 04 at Borussia Park.
