I honestly don't think those 2000's Lakers teams were All-Time great teams. Especially not the 99-00 squad. I don't know maybe it's just me but I really didn't see any real elite teams during that timeframe. I don't think we've seen an elite, All-Time great team since the 96 Bulls really.

Does anyone remember the game in 96' where the Bulls were down 30 to the Nuggets in the 3rd quarter and won?

Its one of my favorite games ever.

I remember the one where they were down to Vancouver in the 4th, and Jordan went off for like 13 or 15 straight points (unanswered by the Grizzlies)

The nature of the game and athletes involved would make it hard for me to really see any elite team of a later decade losing to a team of years past. It's kind of hard to compare eras as we all know.
Those Lakers teams was the most underrated defensive teams in basketball history. People don't realize that they had a signature defense as well as a signature offense.

Everyone who saw them(or know about them) knows that their signature offense was the 'LA Break' also known as 'Showtime'. They were probably the best fast breaking team in the history of the NBA. Kareem and Green were excellent outlet passers. And you had a 6'9" point guard in the middle in Magic. On one wing you had an athletic dead-eye shooter in Byron Scott. And on the other wing you had a guy with the speed of a point guard in James Worthy, probably one of the best finishers of the fast break in NBA history.

NOW their signature defense was the 'LA Trap'. Basically, it was a modified half-court zone trap. Zoning was illegal back in the days. BUT because they extended their defense to the half court line, it was hard for the refs to call it because of the extra space that the refs had to govern. And because the Lakers at that time had a lineup of 6'9" athletes, they would get the turnover before the refs could call it anyway. Riley implemented this defense when he took over the team in 1982 and with this defense it feed the offense for their signature 'LA break'.

Exactly.

There is no way they could have beat the 76ers, Celtics, Blazers, or Pistons if they didn't play defense. You think they could've gotten away with letting those teams do what they wanted to do on offense?

Don't forget Jamaal 'smooth-as-silk' Wilkes with that deadly behind-the-neck jumpshot of his. In Magic's greatest playoff performance(Game 6, 1980 Finals), Wilkes had 37 points to Magic's 42. An amazing player.

I remember that! They were getting their asses handed to em, then made a serious 3rd quarter comeback iirc.

Recall that too... Am I right in thinking that the expansion Raptors, of all teams, were actually responsible for 2 of their 10 losses that year?
