If you stop this, then stop the shoe contracts. The NFL should stop having company logos on the jerseys. Isn't that the same thing? I agree w/someone else who earlier said the NFL is just upset they haven't got their cut. & its ingenious on KFC's part. How much is a 30 second ad on the SB? Look how much mileage they are getting out of this & will get if someone does it.

Isn't it going straight to CHARITY? Do you get a financial gain by having something donated in their name? The league already has rules about what players can advertise, I think it was last year a player was fined $50,000 for wearing a Vitamin Water hat during the super bowl press conferences.

Yeah you get a financial gain: advertising. KFC is getting the equivalent (or better) than a 30-second Super Bowl ad, at a fraction of the cost. I'm sure Fox and the NFL are furious.

He was talking about what the player gains, and making the point that the player is not profiting.

That's the real concern. I don't give a hoot about Fox & the NFL getting one penny less or someone avoiding paying those outrageous, exorbitant prices for those overhyped commercials. All of that bologna about outside interests affecting the game is nothing but spin from Fox & the NFL's spin machine trying to get sympathy for their position. Fox will probably tape delay the broadcast just in case somebody tries to get the money.

The NFLPA would never let a fine like that go through.

Honestly though I can't believe that stuff like that hasn't happened already. And I agree that this needs to be nipped in the bud quick... But trying to fine a guy that much money is absurd, and would never be allowed.... You will see a strike before you ever see a player pay a fine like that.

Re: Dangerous precedent being set by KFC??

KFC is infamous for this type of marketing. They associate their brand with a pro league without actually signing a partnership. Genius really. When the Memphis Grizzlies were looking for a new staduim KFC offered to build the stadium so long as the Grizzlies changed thier franchise name to the Colonels and agreed to name the stadium ''The Bucket''.

The player most certainly is profiting. They are members of the NFL, and if the NFL profits, so do the players. That's why the salary cap goes up every year. If people quit advertising, television revenue would plummet, and the salary cap would start going down as that's where the NFL gets most of its money. Fox is only charging crazy prices for commercials because the NFL charged Fox a truckload of cash to televise the game.
