NBA 2K15 News Post

The launch of NBA 2K15 is one of the low-points of the 2014 sports gaming season.

There was so much excitement surrounding the launch, and so much rage when huge chunks of the game failed to work properly thanks to shoddy design decisions to link the game with 2K's unreliable servers. When the launch day rush hit the servers, they melted down quicker than Scott Brook's decision making at key points in the playoffs.

But now?

Now it seems like gamers have begun to really warm up to the game, which is tending to work more often than it isn't. It doesn't hurt that the gameplay and presentation are at or near top-of-class level for sports games of course. Check out the latest poll results from our polling done yesterday:

All in all, most OS'ers agree (in fact a great majority), that NBA 2K15 is either good or great. The results of this poll are actually somewhat impressive given the early reactions towards the game and how people initially felt.

Some guys even smashed their copies of NBA 2K15 in disgust -- I'd hate to be that guy right now for the record.

All in all, the general feeling towards NBA 2K15 seems to be growing more positive as we head into the New Year, something which seemed impossible after the disastrous start for the game. In general, we hope the same mistakes aren't repeated next year, and that the launch period of NBA 2K16 is more of a high mark on the sports gaming calendar.

Are you surprised by how positive the reaction and feelings towards NBA 2K15 are now?

Yeah, because that'll teach 'em...

I voted "Great". Sure it took time to iron things out, but I guess that's the day and age we live in. It's not so much how gimped things are upon release, but how the devs react and respond to the situation. In this case, 2K redeemed themselves nicely.

It is a very good game. It's just some things like online connectivity /lag I expected better results

I think a majority of the average/bad votes are most likely from the people that are still having server problems and the hardcore MyLeague guys that are annoyed by the regression issue.

Those are really the only two major themes I've been seeing lately that doesn't involve accessories. But let's be honest, those guys won't ever be satisfied with the accessories.

Sounds bad, but the majority of the people that respond to this/these type of threads are usually the disgruntled. And Yes, they have a right to voice their concerns ☺

I give it 8/10 servers keep it from being perfect IMO

Not trying to "troll", or whatever the term is. But shoes will never be a factor in rating a basketball game for me. The gameplay is borderline perfect. Hopefully the passing will be a huge focus on next years game. And of course for all the online players, the servers need to be spot on, so there will be no input lag at all. If i want to play someone online, the game should play exactly how it plays offline.

the game is great...
and by now folks should know that 2k's weakness is the online portion of the game. they should look into handing this off to a third party if they haven't done so already. that might actually save them money also.
Id like to know the cost associated with the implementation and the upkeep of servers etc!!!!

Im a purely offline gamer, and this is as close to a perfect basketball sim as has ever been created.

Still lots of room for improvement, but when Im not playing it, I wish I was playing it.

Best console basketball title ever made.

It has taken the mantle away from 2K11, a game I played till the release of this gem. Post patch this game is incredible IMO. The amount of depth in MyLeague is insane. The level of depth in-game is better than any other sports game I have played. The amount of in-game adjustments and level of strategy needed to beat elite teams and very good teams is amazing. And if you fall asleep vs a middling team, they can take you out as well and exploit you.

Bravo Visual Concepts. Flat out awesome effort.

Exactly. I play My League and Play Now games and purely from a gameplay standpoint, with a few slider tweaks, the game is almost perfect. Shoes and accessories and other things are nice, but the core of the game is the gameplay and that is right where it should be. All the other things should fall into place after. I would rate this game 9/10 from an offline perspective only.

Ive got Irving, LeBron and Waiters out injured. My defense was giving up 105ppg now its up to about 115ppg as Im turning over a lot and teams dont have to take the ball out of my basket.

Im actually enjoying trying to get within 20 points with my bench. Usually I would simmed through this stretch.

And in terms of randomness, I just went 7/7 from 3s with James Jones. Im seeing scores range from 85 to 130.

After losing 128-99, I get back to the title screen and the press has asked me about an online petition to get me fired (using my real name).

C'mon man. That's cold.

Yeah there are things that arent perfect, but as a core gameplay sports sim, this is unbeatable.

I think most of us are just happy to have a competent NBA basketball game. If it can just play right we are satisfied. 2K15 has a lot of issues and head scratching omissions but its not terrible. Is it 9 out of 10 and great and all that? No. But whats out there to compare it too?

# 13 BluFu @ 12/30/14 07:38 PM
for every good thing this game does on the court, it also does one head-scratching thing off it. no headbands or multiple saves? this is next gen right? lol

but other than that great game. if 2K16 starts bringing back the logical things we used to have, I'll be ready to deem it 'greatest sports game'

I've voted great, too.

And i will always be the guy who will never truly be satisfied with online proportion of the game yet gameplay is fantastich! Balanced and organic are two words describing how phenomenal it is for me.

By keeping their customers in the dark on issues and failing to major reported issues in My League while putting out VC grabs is not good business. All it had to take was a simple notice that was like this:

"Hi guys!

We have problems X,Y,Z.

We are addressing problems X and Y like so.

We will address the problems through a patch.

Uh oh. The patch messed up because P, we need more time, sorry.

Sorry for the wait, here's your patch.

For the next patch we are planning on fixing Z. "
The first games out on new consoles are always usually rough around the edges but as time moves on and the developers learn the hardware, the games will get better. Besides you don't want to hit one out of the part first time up although it's nice but what's left after that for an encore.

Good Post. I know that I wouldn't be a good, "objective" reviewer, because for stuff like shoes, accessories, tats, hairstyles, uniform color, or design, I would probably only take off 2 or 3 tenths of a point if those things were lacking and that would only be if I was in a bad mood.

It won't happen, but I really wish there were 3 separate sections for impressions of this game, well all sports games really. One for User vs CPU, Franchise type players, one for H2H online players, and one for those who care most about aesthetics and other visual trimmings.

It goes without saying that people are entitled to their own opinion, but if you actually like basketball and aren't just giving a troll vote, to say that this game is bad, well... I'll leave it alone as to not violate the TOS in multiple ways.

Perfect post bro. Like I posted earlier, from a pure gameplay/simulation viewpoint, this game is VERY close to perfect. For people who care more about online or shoes/accessories, the game is further from that. Maybe there should be sub forums within each forum for each style of player, although that is probably unlikely, as you said.

No halftime show = No purchase.

What looked to be a very solid pregame show still couldn't get me to buy it without a legitimate halftime show. NBA2k15 was THE game I was going to buy until 2K decided to take away a feature.

what the hell?

Yeh offline players seem to be alot happier. I played a couple of games offline its not too bad.

But im strictly a head to head online player who lived for the competitive battles of 2k11, 12, 13............. and 2k14 and 2k15 have been pretty much unplayable in my opinion.
