Rookie Report

We haven't talked a ton about the rookie class outside of Shaq so here we go.

Alonzo Mourning and his 17 points per game is a surprise as he is expected to be more about just defense at this stage. Victor Wembanyama a disappointing season shooting just 28% from 3 and 14 points per game also the Thunder are still terrible. Larry Johnson dropped for health reasons to Miami so far he has been healthy. Chet Holmgren officially a rookie just 10 points and 8 rebounds on 39/30/69 shooting and has been hurt. The G league type guys (scoot,thompson and miller) are all looking like they will not be bust.

Reggie Smith a late 1st round pick is playing well and putting up some big per 36 stats. Jim Jackson got a bad draw being drafted by Houston and needs to be playing more. Harold Miner is starting at SG for Utah after Clarkson was traded and not doing much in 25 minutes per game. Steve Smith just 7 points in 26 minutes and Portland is terrible. Dale Davis a late 1st round pick is the backup C in Golden State and a key depth piece.

He was a pretty well-rounded player IRL. Definitely a defensive stud, but usually scored around 20 ppg (in an era when scoring was often 100 points or less) and despite being 6'10 and much more slender than Shaq, would often slow down Shaq, Hakeem, David Robinson, etc.


He had the athleticism to probably be an Evan Mobley-type nowawadays (or maybe a better defensive, slightly worse shooting) version of Brook Lopez. But in the 90s and 2000s, your job was to be a post player and score from the block.

Here's all his seasons up to when he had to miss time for his Kidney disease. His career was never the same after that. He averaged 21 ppg as a rookie!

I didn't realized he scored 21 a game as a rookie. When I looked at this offense grades they were lower then i would have guessed, but I guess it worked out for him still. They aren't a ton of scoring options around him so I wouldn't be surprised to see his scoring drop next year.

I drafted him for the expansion team to be the building block and I think they could be a playoff team next year. Instead of trying to win I gave them a tank year so they will be picking in the top 10. Then they have a fortune to spend with cap space. I think they are in my division so I'll try and make them compete next year

We quickly take the look at some scores after the all-star break where Orlando is off to a slow start. Its looking like somewhere likely between the 1-3 seed.

Loss to Warriors = Pabolo 26-7-7 & Kuminga 25 and 7

Loss to Nashville (by 2 in overtime) - Lavine missed game winner & Mourning 18 and 16 & Shaq 25 and 12

End Of Regular Season Recap

We take a look at the end of the year stats which resulted in a great regular season just barely missing the 2nd seed. Shaq as expected was the star 20 and 11 on great defense as the star. Banchero as the 2nd option was an all star 18-7-5. The other 3 starters and Cole Anthony as the 6th man were in the mid-teens. Then Bol and Isaac brings size and length off the bench.

Disastrous Playoff Draw

Well you can't blame Orlando for tanking for the right matchup because their path out of the East is going to be much tougher than it looked a few days ago.

They will face Milwaukee in the 1st round obviously a talented team lead by a star player. A lot of familiar names on the roster and does have Jordon Clarkson as the starting SG and John Wall as the backup PG. It was looking like Brooklyn (easy series win) was going to be the matchup until they flipped seeds on the last game.

The bad news is Zach Lavine got hurt several weeks ago and he will miss the 1st round of the playoffs. Thankfully Wagner who missed a few weeks is back healthy. The size advantage thanks to going up against Giannis is kind of neutral. Orlando will have a lot of people to throw at him on defense. For now Boston will be the starting SG and Okeke getting minutes as the 9th man.

Looking ahead some more tough news as defending champion Boston is likely to be the 2nd round opponent. Jyson Tatum has been hurt basically the entire season and now he could be back by the 2nd round.
