Re: Winning in the Windy City | A Chicago Bears Dynasty (M19)

NFL to re-allow multiple helmet colors beginning in 2020

Throwback uniform fans are rejoicing as the NFL has decided to re-allow multiple helmet shell colors in one season, announced by commissioner Roger Goodell today. The initial rule that went into effect in 2013 has been reversed, as player helmet research and technology have gotten much better in recent years.

This means that, yes, we will start to once again see the Patriots' red throwback uniforms with white helmets, the Eagles' kelly green throwbacks, and the Bucs' creamsicle throwbacks, among many others.

The changes will take effect beginning with the 2020 NFL season.

Re: Winning in the Windy City | A Chicago Bears Dynasty (M19)

Defense dominates, Bears complete division sweep with 30-6 win over Vikings
Madden NFL 19_20190310232839.jpg

The Bears move to 12-3 on the season, completing a perfect 6-0 sweep of the NFC North with a win in Minnesota on Sunday. The Vikings now sit at 5-10.

The first half was relatively uneventful, with only 9 points scored between the teams, all coming from field goals. The Vikings lost TE Kyle Rudolph to injury in the first quarter, and missed him in the offense as they were unable to put any points on the board. Both defenses played well in the first half, leading to a slim 6-3 Bears lead heading into the break.

The Bears came out into the third quarter looking to expand their lead, and they did in the form of a 29 yard Tarik Cohen touchdown run, giving them a 10 point advantage. Another field goal from Cole Tracy expanded the lead to 13 heading into the fourth quarter.

The Bears scored first in the fourth, on a leaping touchdown grab from Anthony Miller, as he skied over Trae Waynes and added a vicious stiff arm on his way to the end zone. Any hopes the Vikings had left to come back quickly vanished as ex-Viking Anthony Harris picked off old teammate Kirk Cousins and broke a couple tackles on his way to a 63 yard pick six, giving the Bears a 30-3 lead.

The Vikings would tack on a meaningless field goal late in the game, giving a final score of 30-6. The Bears are 12-3 and will earn a first round bye in the playoffs with a win OR Cowboys loss next week. There is even a chance to earn the #1 seed in the NFC with a win and a Rams loss in Week 17.

The Bears lost left tackle Charles Leno Jr. to injury in the win, and there is a chance he could head to injured reserve as he may not be able to return in time, even if the Bears get all the way to the Super Bowl. This is a big loss to the offensive line, as Leno has allowed just 2 sacks all year, while Bobby Massie has turned out to be a liability after getting his contract extension, giving up 3 sacks in each of the past 2 games. Offensive line will be a big need for the Bears this offseason.

This game has very different meaning for each team in terms of the NFC playoff picture. For the Bears, a win paired with a Cowboys loss solidifies the #2 seed in the NFC and a first-round bye. If the Rams could also happen to lose, the Bears would jump ahead to the #1 seed.

For the Redskins, their thin, but still real, playoff hopes lie on a few different factors. They need a win over Chicago, a Seattle win over Philadelphia, a Vikings win over the Packers, and a Bucs win over the Falcons for Washington to miraculously sneak into the final NFC wild card spot. This will be a hard task as the Redskins are facing the toughest defense in the NFL without starting RB Derrius Guice. Rookie QB Dwayne Haskins Jr. faces his toughest NFL game yet, as he tries to do his part to help the Redskins continue their season.

Matt Nagy told reporters that he will not be resting any starters, as he wants to keep players fresh for a deep playoff run.

Re: Winning in the Windy City | A Chicago Bears Dynasty (M19)

NFL Week 17 Playoff Scenarios

Key:
X – clinched playoff berth
Y – clinched division title
Z – clinched first-round bye
BOLD – clinched playoff berth

NFC
1. Los Angeles Rams (12-3) – Y
2. Chicago Bears (12-3) – Y
3. Dallas Cowboys (11-4) – Y
4. New Orleans Saints (10-5) – Y
5-WC. Arizona Cardinals (10-4-1) – X

6-WC. Philadelphia Eagles (8-7)

In the Hunt
Green Bay Packers (8-7)
Washington Redskins (7-8)

Clinching Scenarios:

#1 Seed
LAR clinches #1 seed with win OR CHI loss/tie + DAL loss/tie
CHI clinches #1 seed with win + LAR loss
DAL clinches #1 seed with win + LAR loss AND CHI loss

#6 Seed
PHI clinches #6 seed with win
GB clinches #6 seed with win + PHI loss/tie
WAS clinches #6 seed with win + PHI loss + GB loss

There aren’t many scenarios in the NFC, but there could be some shuffling at the top as the Rams, Bears, and Cowboys all have a shot at the #1 seed in the conference. The final wildcard spot will go to either the Eagles, Packers, or Redskins, and the Eagles have the easiest path to the playoffs as they just need a win over Seattle.

AFC
1. Indianapolis Colts (11-4) – Z
2. Cleveland Browns (10-5) – Y

3. Kansas City Chiefs (9-6)
4. New England Patriots (7-7-1)
5-WC. Houston Texans (9-6)
6-WC. Oakland Raiders (8-7)

In the Hunt
Jacksonville Jaguars (8-7)
Baltimore Ravens (7-7-1)
Pittsburgh Steelers (7-7-1)
New York Jets (7-8)

Clinching Scenarios:

AFC West
KC clinches division with win OR OAK loss
OAK clinches division with win + KC loss

AFC East
NE clinches division with win OR NYJ loss
NYJ clinches division with win + NE loss

Wild Card Scenarios
KC clinches playoff berth with win OR OAK loss OR JAX loss
HOU clinches playoff berth with win OR JAX loss + OAK loss OR JAX loss + KC loss
OAK clinches playoff berth with win + KC loss OR win + JAX loss
JAX clinches playoff berth with win + OAK loss
PIT clinches playoff berth with win + OAK loss + JAX loss + BAL loss
BAL clinches playoff berth with win + OAK loss + JAX loss
NYJ clinches playoff berth with win + NE loss OR win + OAK loss + PIT loss + BAL loss

Wow. That may be your first reaction as you try to wrap your mind around the AFC playoff scenarios. The final 4 spots are available to 8 different teams, and any of the 4 teams currently holding spots 3-6 could be bounced out of the playoffs altogether depending on the outcomes of Week 17 action. The weak AFC East can still be taken by the Jets, which would knock the Pats out and have them miss the playoffs for the first time since 2008. The Texans and Chiefs seem to be the “safest” of the 8 teams still contending for spots, as wins will lock them in for sure. There will be a lot of different games to watch to determine the AFC playoff picture.

Week 17: Games to Watch

Browns (10-5) @ Texans (9-6)
This game will determine the winner of the #2 seed in the AFC. If the Browns win, they secure the first-round bye and hold off the Texans from taking it. If the Texans win, they earn the #2 seed by way of head-to-head advantage.

Colts (11-4) @ Saints (10-5)
Both teams have already earned playoff berths, but this could essentially be a Super Bowl preview. The Colts have locked up the #1 seed in the AFC, and the Saints have taken the #4 seed after winning the NFC South.

Raiders (8-7) @ Chargers (5-10)
While this may not look like an exciting matchup on paper, the Chargers have the opportunity to play spoiler to their division rivals, as a Chargers win can eliminate the Raiders from the playoffs altogether. This could be a realistic outcome, as the Chargers will be playing at home and have a 3-2 division record, good for second in the division.

Jaguars (8-7) @ Jets (7-8)
Win and you’re in. Kind of. Ultimately, the winner of this game extends their playoff hopes a little longer while waiting for the outcomes of other games. Maybe lose and you’re out is a better message for this game.

Bears (12-3) @ Redskins (7-8)
The Bears are riding high on a 6-game winning streak and a chance to topple the Rams and Cowboys for the #1 seed. The Redskins are living on a prayer that starts with an upset over Chicago in Washington, as well as Eagles and Packers losses.

Patriots (7-7-1) @ Dolphins (6-9)
After being eliminated in a loss last week, the Dolphins would love to be the team that puts the Patriots right next to them on the playoff couch. A loss means bye-bye to the playoffs for Belichick and Co.

Bengals (4-11) @ Bills (5-10)
The loser of this game possibly gets the #1 overall pick and wins the Tua T sweepstakes. If the Bengals lose, they automatically get the pick as the only team with 4 wins or less. If the Bills lose, they have to fight with the 5 win teams for it (including the Bengals, if they win).

Re: Winning in the Windy City | A Chicago Bears Dynasty (M19)

Bears end season on 7-game win streak, clinch first-round playoff bye and #1 seed
Madden NFL 19_20190311144829.jpg

The Bears defeated the Redskins 33-13 and finish the regular season at 13-3, improved from a 10-6 mark last season.

The Redskins looked good in the first quarter, making a field goal on their first drive and then quickly getting the ball back after the Bears fumbled on their first drive. The Bears' defense quickly forced a turnover of their own, as rookie QB Dwayne Haskins was hit by Eddie Goldman as he threw a pass, knocking it into the air where it would fall into the arms of Roquan Smith, who ran it back 30 yards for a score. The Redskins would answer on their next possession, as RB Chris Thompson broke away for a 53 yard touchdown run, giving the Redskins a 10-7 lead heading into the second quarter.

The Bears tied the game at 10 early in the second quarter and didn't look back. After a Jordan Howard touchdown extended the lead to 7, the Bears ended a long Redskins drive as Eddie Jackson picked off Haskins for the second time, this time taking it the distance for a 95 yard score, helping the Bears go into halftime with a 24-10 lead.

A Dustin Hopkins field goal to begin the third quarter would bring the Redskins back within 11, but they could not get anything going in the second half, as the Bears would go on to win 33-13.

The Bears have clinched a first-round bye, and with the Lions getting an upset win over the Rams on SNF, the Bears have taken control of the #1 seed in the NFC, earning them home-field advantage throughout the playoffs. The Redskins finish at 7-9 and will hope to improve their roster and get back to the playoffs next season.
