Re: MLB 14 The Show Official Trade Discussion Thread
Maybe a stupid question, and probably one that's already been answered, but I'd like to hear from Totte and others about how they use the trade value spreadsheet in franchise mode. I think it's a great resource, especially when I'm trying to buy player from other teams with my prospects - it's a nice guide to know what is fair to pay.
But things are a little more murky when it's two computer teams (I'm controlling all trades) dealing between one another, and instead of sending two high B players for, say, JJ Hoover, the Athletics are trying to send one low A player. And then I'm also curious about how seasons of progression should change the cost for all of these guys, and any other factors that change things.
In general, I'm looking for some hard and fast rules to play by to keep things fair and realistic across the league. Maybe there are no hard and fast rules, but I'm interested to hear how everyone polices their leagues.
Everyone probably has their own way of combining two values for a higher one and it's about gut feeling - no right or wrong IMO. In general, I value two high C's as one low B. Two mid C's as one high C etc
Progression a couple of years down the road in a franchise compared to the spreadsheets determined value is a good question. Don't really have a good answer.Former modder of "Ultimate Rosters" for MVP Baseball 2005.

Re: MLB 14 The Show Official Trade Discussion Thread
Yeah, I'd love to mix it up and send Lee to La instead of Texas, although I'm just not sure if it's quite as realistic as Texas. I still thank the move works though. Pederson is kinda blocked by puig, kemp, not to mention ethier if I undo the CPU trade as well. If you think the dodgers would move pederson for Lee I'd be all for it, if you don't think it's as realistic then texas can work too.Comment

I agree that Texas is a better fit but let's not forget that LA seem to have an unlimited supply of cash to take on contract AND actually was awarded a waiver claim on him last August (or was it in Aug 2012?)Former modder of "Ultimate Rosters" for MVP Baseball 2005.

Yeah I'm a bit torn on his value. It's hard. I was leaning Asche and Biddle at first since Asche would be able to step right in at 3B. Argument for Prado is versatility, proven track record and team friendly contractFormer modder of "Ultimate Rosters" for MVP Baseball 2005.

Prado is a nice player to have for sure but does an organization with a lackluster farm system deal their two best prospects for someone like him? im not sureSteelers | Seminoles | A's | Rockets | Avalanche | Wildcats, Hoosiers | LiverpoolComment

Re: MLB 14 The Show Official Trade Discussion Thread
If you're not looking to give up a lot I'd steer clear of Crain, especially if he's pitching well as the Astros would probably ask for a decent return. Valverde and Marmol are effectively wild, and if you can handle a few walks then Marmol might be a nice fit. Jim Johnson might also be nice but you might have to give up a little more than for someone like Marmol. Personally, I'd go for the cheaper option in Marmol and maybe give up an Austin Romine, Aaron Judge, or Slade Heathcott (although you may want to hang onto him). Judge really only has raw power and I don't know how well that would project in the majors, but I would think a team like the Marlins would take whatever they could get if Marmol is struggling, especially a decent power guy. But if you don't want to give up Judge, which is understandable because raw power projects well in New York's stadium, Romine for a cheaper reliever like Mitchell Boggs from the White Sox? The white sox have had some underperforming catchers since Pierzynski left and Romine might be a nice plug in or a backup guy for them, and Boggs would be a pretty good middle relief option for you I would think. Hope this helps!
I may look into some of the other names before pulling the trigger, but I may make Marmol an offer consider he should be cheap (prospect-wise) and should do a relatively serviceable job for the 7th inning. Or at least I hope.
I mull it over for a bit.
Thanks again!Comment

That's a good point. Guess it depends on what the OP wants to achieve and how desperate he is to replace Asche at 3BFormer modder of "Ultimate Rosters" for MVP Baseball 2005.

Yeah that's why I'm torn, I know that LA has expressed interest in the past and I'm sure they part ways with some prospects ( just not sure if it would be Pederson) to get Lee, however I also realize that Texas would be a better fit and they have also shown some interest I believe. Plus Odor would be more realistic to be traded because he's behind profar and Andrus. However pederson is behind a loaded and long term contract given OF. if I had to pick id do the LA deal, but only if it's a realistic option. Since they've shown interest in real life I feel like it could be.Comment

The LA deal is a given if the Dodgers have their jammed OF with Crawford, Kemp and Puig with a serviceable 4th OF in the Ethier mold. Pederson could very well be that 4th OF.
If I were you I'd trade them Lee and a 4th OF type player (Byrd?) for your desired prospect pack (Pederson, Zach Lee + more)Former modder of "Ultimate Rosters" for MVP Baseball 2005.
