Re: MLB 15 The Show (Community Day Gameplay Q&A Thread)

Thanks so much for answering all these questions... I have one that not many people seem to be talking about. Since I've played this game (since 2010), there have always been one type of celebration for every type of milestone. For a walk-off, it's the same toss of the helmet for a HR and pump of the fist on first base or whatever base you're on. For a no-hitter, it's almost exactly like a shutout. For a World Series win, it's exactly the same as when you clinch or win the Divisional Series or Championship Series. So I was hoping there was a little more variation... Also, in relation to that, I always noticed that there was no possible way to replay the celebration of a walk-off hit... Meaning that as soon as the ball crossed over the fence, the replay would stop.

I think all of the other questions had been answered, so this is just something that I hope can get cleared up or at least brought to attention.

Gotcha... Any idea when we will have a chance to ask about these things?

And, unrelated, did you notice anything about LOOGY pitchers being in the game? Guys who only come in as a lefty specialist? If that hasn't been implemented yet, I think the game would benefit greatly from it. Some pitchers like Boone Logan, Randy Choate, etc... Those guys got paid a great deal just to come in and get lefties out. It would make the computer and the user really have to make a decision of when the best time to bring those types of guys in is. It would also eliminate having them remain in the game for multiple innings and get shelled by righties.

After the presentation stream they will put up a thread like this one.

I didn't notice it in particular, then again, I wasn't directly looking for it either. The computer did play the lefty-lefty/righty-righty matchups as it always has though.

Anyone see any 3rd deck homers?

What is the variety like in home run distances?
                  NFL : Atlanta Falcons
                  MLB : Toronto Blue Jays

Several pages back on this thread there was a discussion about HR variety.

I don't know if this can be answered, but has there been any improvement in making emergency throws and not getting stuck in certain animations?

I'll give you an example, I play head to head a lot with my friends and sometimes we like to play a little more 'liberally', taking more chances, trying for extra bases (usually to no avail), just for kicks. In a situation with a speedy runner on 2nd, there's ground ball to an infielder, and the fielder throws to 1st. If the user on offense tells the runner to go home, he there's a good chance he can make it because there is no smooth animation for the 1B to catch the ball for the force out and quickly throw to home. Even if the throw is preloaded well in advance, he has to finish the casual catch animation, come to a stop, and then throw to home (usually off-line) which buys the runner some extra time to score. When in real life he'd be out every time because the 1B man would throw immediately to home as soon as he caught it.

Is there anything fixed regarding this type of problem?

No need for a traveling statistician.

If you go to pitch analysis after the game you can quickly determine the number of outs on chased pitches relative to the number of hits on chased pitches.

Last year with changes to plate discipline there were about 14 outs and 1 hit per game based upon the 100 games I recorded on default sliders.

I think this falls under gameplay, but let me know if I should hold onto it for later. I was just playing a game and was reminded of a pet peeve. I like to sim a number of games in my franchise so I can get through more seasons. I also like to fast forward instead of doing a straight sim so I can set lineups and watch it play out. One thing that kind of drives me nuts is when relief pitchers hit for themselves and then are replaced the next inning anyway. Is there better logic for fast forwarding now?

Is there a new feet first slide animation this year? Most MLBers pop up when they slide, especially faster baserunners. I really hated the feet first slide where the runner would lift up his leg and would have to pick himself up after slowly sliding in. It really looked bad when seeing a guy like Jacoby Ellsbury trying to steal second; then you see him slide into the bag like he's a 330 pound lineman who has never been taught the proper way to slide.

How was the corner infield play? I really felt like these two positions lacked in the animation department, and as a result, would lead to some outcomes that weren't believable. Like the animation of the infielder missing a line drive hit right to him and they "ole" out of the way. Are there more "in between" animations for these positions? For example: a ball that you don't need to dive for but can't quite reach. Also, if there are new in between animations, do they play automatically, or can I use R2 to trigger the animation? I'm hoping for the latter.

Do fielders (primarily middle infielders) still slow down in order to field the ball with the forehand, or do they now square themselves up with the ball and keep the ball in front of them (when appropriate, of course)? In my opinion, seeing infielders square up with ground balls, instead of slowing down in order to use the forehand, would make this game look great. For me, seeing the pre-animation slow down in order to utilize a specific animation breaks the immersion. Perhaps it's just a limitation of it being a video game?

Also, very bummed to see the analog hitting controls go the way of MLB 2K. I had a lot of fun with it.

For those that used meter pitching how was it? I know during the stream they said that they adjusted it a little.

I remember using meter pitching in MVP 2003, and loved it. But I kinda got disenfranchised with it once analog pitching was introduced in TS. But if you say they're tweaking the meter, I'm up to seeing what's up again.
